Nice, but all of those kinda sayings are wonderful until you realize all the people who could be carrying as well. Not a smart thing to make common.

I agree with ol' saying " I rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6". as a friend of mine sez, he has a permit
    and he carries.

Yeah, I think that if ALL were trained, we would see at least some sort of reduction in even accidents.

Who said it on Bill Maher.. You want the best defense for your house, put up a confederate flag... I had a chuckle at that.

Not really... someone already posted stats proving this to be untrue in this thread.. basically that in the event you had a gun for protection and were attacked unknowingly, the likelihood you would be able to react to offset such a thing is unlikely.

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

The bad guys know that law abiding citizens can't carry in states without the concealed carry law. So they know there is little risk in holding up an unarmed person whether that person was ready or not.

But this is a great assumption based on the premise that a criminal or "bad guy" will be deterred from doing something because others have guns as well. I don't know the statistics but would be curious to see in the states which have such type laws, how it correlates to the crime rate. Not sure if it will ring true, but it reminds me of the states which have the death penalty, and the murder rates are no lower, in fact they are higher for whatever the varying reasons. What may seem like a viable deterrent for a common or "normal" citizen, the same can't always be equated or applied to the other half.

I agree with you on the deterrent to a normal citizen. This is why I prefer to have the ability to defend myself against the criminals.

But I'm in one of two states that don't allow me to defend myself.

The term "defend myself" is a bit subjective. Carry a gun isn't a normal or necessary part of functional society. If everyone carried a gun, everyone would be merely doing so to "defend" for everyone else. To me it's nothing more than escalation of a problem and not a resolution to one.

5b247x what would you conceder a fair resolution, taking away gun's from the good guy's will never work because then only bad guy's would have gun's.
I'm not trying to bait you on this but really what do think would work ,I know it's not a easy answer to come up with but you seem to be very anti gun's and what do you think would be fair to both parties ?

That was just one idea I have on the matter, and I'm not sure what the best, most efficient way to solve this matter is. Regardless of anything, I think escalating the notion that guns are necessary for your own protection and similar is inherently a bad idea. I know many disagree with me on this, but it's just my take. But I also think if we want to see results and better safety for all, sometimes we have to sacrifice temporary things for the greater good.

I know several individuals that carry guns 24/7. The ones that don’t let you know they have a weapon are level-headed while the ones that do let you know they have a gun are assholes with inferiority complexes.
