There should be a law against carrying a gun while drunk.0

Think about the societal and economic cost of 1000's of people getting arrested everyday for GCUI (carrying gun under the influence)
Not much different then the whole DUI scenario we have now
then again drunk people shooting each wouldn't be much better...**CUBS GO ALL THE WAY IN......never **0 -

I think $$ spent on DUI/GCUI prevention/detection/prosecution is $$ well spent.
Yet another example of the majority paying for the irresponsibility of a small group of bad apples.0 -

Agreed. And its hard to find a way around this state of affairs.0 -

That being said they are mobile and go everywhere.
I'd feel much safer with a law abiding citizen than some pos derelict. I grew up around guns and I own many. It doesn't make me a tough guy if o could carry, if nothing else I'd be on better behavior.
I generally don't have too many people giving me much trouble, but I'm not 5'6" 160 lbs either.
That's my point. You are more than likely to cross paths with law abiding citizens, then ever crossing paths with so-called, 'Gang Bangers'. Arm those 'law abiding' citizens and the scenario changes because people's attitudes change when they are carrying a piece... not everyone, just enough to make it more dangerous out there than it already is. Ever run across a horrible driver that thinks his trip is the most important out there? Yeah... the typical asshole. Imagine him with a gun.
and don't get me wrong... I'm NOT 'Anti-Gun'... I'm anti-asshole with a gun.

I live in Montreal, the second biggest city in Canada. There are a lot of bars, and like any place with a bunch of 18-25 year old males, the occasional fight breaks out. I'm a lot happier knowing that these drunk assholes aren't carrying guns. Sometimes, a guy deserves an ass kicking for being a dickhead... The guy doesn't however, deserve to be shot.Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. I dunno, dude ... The typical asshole probably deserves more credit than assuming he'll just wig and blow someone's head off, asshole though he may be. I recognize that there are road rage shootings and I am not advocating that we arm everyone just for shits and giggles ... My issue is always the same: Blanket gun bans are expensive, unlikely to reduce violent crime rates (which are driven largely by the aforementioned gangbangers), and yes, kind of totalitarian. I'd support way more gun control than the average NRAer, but I think being too draconian about the whole thing is at best not effective, and at worst could backfire. Alcohol ruins more lives in the US than guns do, and look how Prohibition worked out.0 -
Some of you are way to uptight about guns. What ?? You think they just hand out guns like flyers or something. You do have to go through a background check when purchasing one. If you have any Felonies you cant get one. Not to mention you cant cary a concealed weapon with out a permit. and that in it self is a long process. Personally I would rather know if someone is packing or not. then theres the whole 2nd amendment issue. Damn that constitution. I know that there are some on here that wish there wasn't one.
The Brady Bill
This is a result of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, (The Brady Bill), which was enacted in 1994. At a minimum, each state requires a firearm background check to include a search of the National Instant Check System (NICS), which identifies anyone barred from owning a gun.
However, states vary widely in their requirements for enforcing the law. Twenty-one states require only the NICS check. In the states of Connecticut, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia both state and federal firearm background checks are required. Residents of Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Missouri are only required to pass a federal firearm background check but they do need a permit.Post edited by WaveCameCrashin on0 -

I totally understand what you are saying... and a gain, i am a defender of the Constitution and Bill Of Rights. And I don't mind off duty law enforcement carrying a piece... but, douchebag anyone... take a look around the next time you're at the DMV... and get back to me.
I'm not against gun ownership... I am not breaking into their home where their guns are... I just don't want their guns in their unpredictable hands while i'm just out there trying to get some tacos for lunch.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

People are killed more in car accidents on a daily bassis than there are people killed by guns. So should we not drive either ?0 -

Thats why they have background checks. So some lunatic cant just go in and buy a gun,and not to mention there are laws in most states called cool down periods.0

What about compound Bows ? Should people not be allowed to own those either, Not all guns are designed for the same purpose. Rifles and Shotguns are for hunting. Handguns are for protection.0 -

That purpose IS to kill and if that's not the case then let me take a rifle or shotgun and you stand 10 feet in front of me and I'll shoot and let's see what will happen. Lastly handguns are for protection if you want to put it that way THROUGH KILLING. I was the # 2 rifleman on my college rifle team 22 smallbore and even that weapon even though mainly used to hit targets can easily kill and all safety measures was to used at ALL times.
