There should be a law against carrying a gun while drunk.
  • KDH12KDH12 Posts: 2,096
Think about the societal and economic cost of 1000's of people getting arrested everyday for GCUI (carrying gun under the influence)

Not much different then the whole DUI scenario we have now

then again drunk people shooting each wouldn't be much better...

    I think $$ spent on DUI/GCUI prevention/detection/prosecution is $$ well spent.

Yet another example of the majority paying for the irresponsibility of a small group of bad apples.

I recognize that there are road rage shootings and I am not advocating that we arm everyone just for shits and giggles ... My issue is always the same: Blanket gun bans are expensive, unlikely to reduce violent crime rates (which are driven largely by the aforementioned gangbangers), and yes, kind of totalitarian. I'd support way more gun control than the average NRAer, but I think being too draconian about the whole thing is at best not effective, and at worst could backfire. Some of you are way to uptight about guns. What ?? You think they just hand out guns like flyers or something. You do have to go through a background check when purchasing one. If you have any Felonies you cant get one. Not to mention you cant cary a concealed weapon with out a permit. and that in it self is a long process. Personally I would rather know if someone is packing or not. then theres the whole 2nd amendment issue. Damn that constitution. I know that there are some on here that wish there wasn't one.

    The Brady Bill

This is a result of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, (The Brady Bill), which was enacted in 1994. At a minimum, each state requires a firearm background check to include a search of the National Instant Check System (NICS), which identifies anyone barred from owning a gun.

However, states vary widely in their requirements for enforcing the law. Twenty-one states require only the NICS check. In the states of Connecticut, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia both state and federal firearm background checks are required. Residents of Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Missouri are only required to pass a federal firearm background check but they do need a permit.

I'm not against gun ownership... I am not breaking into their home where their guns are... I just don't want their guns in their unpredictable hands while i'm just out there trying to get some tacos for lunch.

I said DESIGNED to kill. That's the difference. A car has many purposes. A handgun is designed for nothing more than killing another human being.

What about compound Bows ? Should people not be allowed to own those either, Not all guns are designed for the same purpose. Rifles and Shotguns are for hunting. Handguns are for protection.

That purpose IS to kill and if that's not the case then let me take a rifle or shotgun and you stand 10 feet in front of me and I'll shoot and let's see what will happen. Lastly handguns are for protection if you want to put it that way THROUGH KILLING. I was the # 2 rifleman on my college rifle team 22 smallbore and even that weapon even though mainly used to hit targets can easily kill and all safety measures was to used at ALL times.

    Well... there you go again...
No one is saying, "You can't own a gun". We are saying, "You can own a gun, but we don't want your sorry unstable ass walking around us with a gun in your hand at a Pearl Jam gig, a baseball game, my corner pub or the local Starbucks because you present a danger to us. Particularly, because you are normally walking around town with a compound bow.".

    a little internet humor......

    Godfather.

    FACTS TO PONDER :

    (A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is
    700,000.

    (B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians

    per year are

    120,000.

    (Calculation) Accidental deaths per physician

    is

    0.170

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of

    Health Human Services.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Now think about this:

    Guns:

    (A) The number of gun owners in the U.S.

    is

    80,000,000.

    (Yes, that's 80 million..)

    (B) The number of accidental gun deaths

    per year, all age groups,

    is

    1,500.

(Calculation) The number of accidental deaths

    per gun owner

    is

    .000188

    Statistics courtesy of FBI

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    So, statistically, doctors are approximately

9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do!"

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN,
    BUT

ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Please alert your friends

    to this

    alarming threat.

    We must ban doctors

before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    >>>>>
Out of concern for the public at large,

    I withheld the statistics on

    lawyers

for fear the shock would cause

people to panic and seek medical attention!

background checks only look into criminal backgrounds

they say nothing about gun safety or handling knowledge or

    psychological well being

I say if you want to carry a gun in public you must first undergo a psychological evaluation
