First nomination in the Best Rock Song category since I think Daughter. They've had a lot of nominations in Hard Rock Performance.

Ament got the raw end of the deal here.

i don't understand...how did jeff get the raw end of the deal here?

also good info re first nom since daughter for best rock song. the fixer is such a great radio rock song.

Actually I was wrong about Daughter....it was nominated for "best rock performance by a group or duo" and not "best rock song." I said Ament got hosed because Best Rock Song goes to the writers of the song and Jeff is the only member of the band not credited on The Fixer.

Here's all of PJ's grammy nominations if anyone is curious:

    Album of the Year
1996 - Vitalogy (lost to "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morissette)

    Best Rock Album
1995 - Vs (lost to "Voodoo Lounge" by The Rolling Stones)
1996 - Vitalogy (lost to "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morissette)

    Best Hard Rock Performance
1993 - Jeremy (lost to "Give It Away" by Red Hot Chili Peppers)
1995 - Go (lost to "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden)
1996 - Spin the Black Circle (Won)
1999 - Do The Evolution (lost to "Most High" by Jimmy Page & Robert Plant)
2001 - Grievance (lost to "Guerrilla Radio" by Rage Against the Machine)

    Best Rock Song
1993 - Jeremy (lost to "Layla" by Eric Clapton even though it was written like 25 years before)
    2009 - The Fixer

Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal
1995 - Daughter (lost to "Crazy" by Aerosmith)

    Best Short Form Music Video
1999 - Do The Evolution (lost to "Ray of Light" by Madonna)

    Best Album Packaging
1999 - Yield (lost to "Ray of Light" by Madonna)

Grievance was nominated? I'm surprised because it is almost as average as NAIS.

While I think Evolution rules, Most High is a great tune and since Zeppelin was never even nominated for a grammy, I think Page & Plant deserved it.

    what happend?
Did they reveal janet jacksons other boob on stage??

No, for that they would deserve the Grammy! Apparantly the crowd was dead and it put a dent in their rapidly growing ego, which pissed them off. Here is a clip of the story:
"So for all those who don't give a f--k about us, I understand. But we've worked hard to be here. We're the goddamn Kings of Leon, so f--k you."
The furious singer and his brother Jared then smashed their guitars into the stage, before throwing the remains into the crowd and making their way backstage, gesturing rudely to the disappointed crowd (flipping the finger).

Better THAN Grievance. And I respectfully disagree.

The Grammys have become irrelevant...they've been out of touch with good music for the past 2 decades.

It's all relative... a grammy would help the band sell albums. I don't think the grammy's have ever been good.
  • The Grammys are meaningless but I have to say that I'm sort of indebted to it because it's what introduced me to Radiohead. It was 2000 and all they were to me were some one-hit wonder from the UK from the early 90's. How was a dumb American like me without the internet to know otherwise? But all the Grammy hoopla around Kid A caused me to download it (the very first of thousands of albums I would download off the internet) and I loved it. I promptly went out and grabbed OK Computer and The Bends in anxious anticipation for Amnesiac.

I REALLY hope they win for once. I'm really curious as to how Ed will react this time.

but seriously, ONE grammy? there are atleast 5 nominations they could've fit in.
    5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10
    8/7/08, 6/9/09
  • I cringe on their behalf at having to sit in that room for 2 hours. I wonder if they'll actually show up...
