As Ed said about 15 years ago, it probably doesnt mean anything, but, they were nominated for best rock song for the Fixer. They go up against U2, Green Day, Kings of Leon and Bruce Springsteen.

All the Nominees...

  • I would imagine Kings of Leon winning, not because I like their song (I don't), but because its gotten the most top 40 radio play.

I really thought they might also be included in Rock Album of the year, so that's too bad. But I do have to say, this is probably the only category where I at least can somewhat respect all the nominees.

They're not eligible for Rock Album or Album of the year because the deadline was Aug 31. It used to be September. And Backspacer came out in September.

Oh, well I guess you never know. But I feel like albums that come out at the begining of "year" (grammy year) get forgotten by the time the end of the year rolls around. Hopefully this will be a shitty year for rock, and maybe Just Breathe or the next single will find some success and help them out.

    When is the Grammys?

"The 52nd annual Grammy Awards will take place on January 31, 2010 in Los Angeles!"
  • First nomination in the Best Rock Song category since I think Daughter. They've had a lot of nominations in Hard Rock Performance.

Ament got the raw end of the deal here.

i think U2 was eligible at one time for a song at the Grammy's. And then the next GRAMMY'S was eligible for Album. But that would mean PJ having to promote Backspacer all throughout next year. And release more singles. Something I don't think they would do.

Yeah once Rage Against the Machine was nominated for grammys for 'Tire Me' and 'Bulls on Parade' from Evil Empire...and were nominated again the next year for 'People of the Sun' which is also on Evil Empire.

I wouldnt be surprised if someone goes, like Mike, or maybe Mike and Matt or something, but I wouldn't count on the whole band showing up. Maybe if they were nominated for more awards.

Yeah...I think Ed would probably appreciate it a little more now, or at least let Matt have his moment. :)
I'm also happy that Neko Case was nominated for Best Contemporary Folk Album, and Wilco for Best Americana Album.

Who needs to be accepted by those pigs.
And who wants to give a shitty thank you speech in front of all those jerks that don't know what good music is.
It is just a business function.
They don't need an award, we know they are the best.

    I think either:

KOL will win because they are radio friendly unit shifters now.

    OR

U2 because Bono is such a great human being donating sooooo much money to charity and campaigning

I think Ed would be more defiant yet more mellow than...was it '95?

More defiant: "We financed, produced, released, and made distribution deals without the major labels. Neener, neener, neener, dying 20th century recording industry."

More mellow: "Damn, this bottle of red is good." 8-)
