Yeah, that 10 minutes or so before they take the satge and the seats start to fill and the energy starts to build leading up tp the lights dimming. The anticipation is too much.0

Well, I'm 0 for 18. I'm currently dying that they just played Oceans in Melbourne, so I am totally there with you wanting to hear Oceans. I'm still going to follow you... you're a Wash magnet

Neat topic! All good responses ...yeah the moment the lights dim, the piano intro music kicks in, energy and buzz starts to build, you see them heading out on stage ... fantastic feeling. Anything could happen!
My favorite part though is when they play that song I had totally forgotten about, one of many favorite songs that kinda got lost in all the buildup -- a song I wouldn't nesc say was my fav song or even top 3-5, wasn't even on my wishlist, a song I'd probably given up on ever hearing live ... but for some reason, it's the right song at the right time.
It's that karmic "you can't always get what you want, but you get what you need!"

Wow I'd give anything to hear Wash or Alone- 2 all time faves

Right before/when the show starts...the lights go down, the band comes out, the roar of the crowd and the energy...it's my favorite part of every live show not just PJ0

The audience signing along and the band noticing what is going on and then having the audience singing along
i will never forget last year me and my brother went to MSG night 1 i believe, it was his first Pearl jam show ( he has been to a ton of concerts) and whatever song was playing the audience was participating and he was like " i have never seen anything like that before" and for me that is what it is all about
the beginning of the show is always cool and the end they also do something special
I had a similar experience at the last Boston show, brought one of my best friends who had always liked PJ but had never seen them live, about 5 songs in when they played Animal and the place was on fire he turned to me and said a line that i really think sums it up best "this isn't a concert, it's an event"
Your friend has never been the same, has he?
I say it's not just an event, but a total experience.
nope he can't wait to go again.
I have to agree with others in the you never know what you are going to get. That makes it exciting that at the end of every song you aren't sure what's coming up.0 -
Scanning around, whether it's from the seats or doing my customary couple of laps of the arenas before the shows, looking for where my friends are. Generally much easier in GA than in seated shows, since GA means they're all around right there. And generally it's more about the others spotting me and waving hi

Climbing over seats, assuring the venue staff that i have no intention on staying in the spots but just wanting to have a quick pre-show yarn, being called out by people who I didn't even know were going to be there, the look on others faces of this mad bond that we share with one another, it's just magical.
I love this as much as the show itself.115 bucks for half a haircut by a novice? I want my money back!0 -

So a twist on the topic, I've decided the most disappointing points of a show is when the following things happen:
1) I get shut out of the lottery for 54,846th time
2) They don't open with Oceans
3) The tool that does win the lottery get's a rarity scratched from the setlist because they have a "last kiss" sign.
I've just comes to terms with the fact that I will never hear Oceans, and I will never win the lottery. At least the mid-set oceans in Australia gave me some hope that it will appear randomly some day.0 -

what he said
and the lovely goosebumpy feeling you get when you recognise the opening notes of a song you've been longing to hear (for me Footsteps at the O2 and Release at MSG 2, and about 20 others)
and when the intro music comes on and the lights go out........this thread is making me yearn for more shows

If there was one moment I had to choose it's when the band walk on stage - the huge cheer goes up - then the opening notes of whatever they're opening with kicks off and the whole place goes nuts. I almost don't think it matters so much if it's you're favourite song, it's more just that that's when it hits you what an unbelievable 2 or 3 hours you're in for.
I still get chills thinking about the roar that went up in the Point in 2000 when the opening riff of Sometimes kicked in.Slane - Jul 10, 1993

The 02 - Jun 22, 2010

I have to admit I'm not a big fan of the song, but I get chills every time I hear the very first opening chords to Alive.0
