i would have to say besides the whole show
The audience signing along and the band noticing what is going on and then having the audience singing along
i will never forget last year me and my brother went to MSG night 1 i believe, it was his first Pearl jam show ( he has been to a ton of concerts) and whatever song was playing the audience was participating and he was like " i have never seen anything like that before" and for me that is what it is all about
the beginning of the show is always cool and the end they also do something special
I had a similar experience at the last Boston show, brought one of my best friends who had always liked PJ but had never seen them live, about 5 songs in when they played Animal and the place was on fire he turned to me and said a line that i really think sums it up best "this isn't a concert, it's an event"
Your friend has never been the same, has he?
I say it's not just an event, but a total experience.
nope he can't wait to go again.
I have to agree with others in the you never know what you are going to get. That makes it exciting that at the end of every song you aren't sure what's coming up.
Scanning around, whether it's from the seats or doing my customary couple of laps of the arenas before the shows, looking for where my friends are. Generally much easier in GA than in seated shows, since GA means they're all around right there. And generally it's more about the others spotting me and waving hi
Climbing over seats, assuring the venue staff that i have no intention on staying in the spots but just wanting to have a quick pre-show yarn, being called out by people who I didn't even know were going to be there, the look on others faces of this mad bond that we share with one another, it's just magical.
I love this as much as the show itself.
115 bucks for half a haircut by a novice? I want my money back!

 you're not exactly difficult to spot in your Warwick Capper wig and Aussie flag cape
Glaciers melting in the dead of night and the superstars sucked into the supermassive.
So a twist on the topic, I've decided the most disappointing points of a show is when the following things happen:
1) I get shut out of the lottery for 54,846th time
2) They don't open with Oceans
3) The tool that does win the lottery get's a rarity scratched from the setlist because they have a "last kiss" sign.
I've just comes to terms with the fact that I will never hear Oceans, and I will never win the lottery. At least the mid-set oceans in Australia gave me some hope that it will appear randomly some day.
Pure randomness of not knowing what they are gonna play.
what he said
and the lovely goosebumpy feeling you get when you recognise the opening notes of a song you've been longing to hear (for me Footsteps at the O2 and Release at MSG 2, and about 20 others)
and when the intro music comes on and the lights go out........this thread is making me yearn for more shows

If there was one moment I had to choose it's when the band walk on stage - the huge cheer goes up - then the opening notes of whatever they're opening with kicks off and the whole place goes nuts. I almost don't think it matters so much if it's you're favourite song, it's more just that that's when it hits you what an unbelievable 2 or 3 hours you're in for.
I still get chills thinking about the roar that went up in the Point in 2000 when the opening riff of Sometimes kicked in.

That moment after lining up in the line all day, squeezing in at the front, sitting in the sun, watching the support acts rock, then watching the roadies set up the equipment, the moment, that spine tingling few seconds when the piano music starts to play.... and the curtain at the back divides...
the nerves tingle like nothing else!
By the way... what IS that piece of piano music they are using to open with this tour?? It is AWESOME
Spin me round.. roll me over... fuckin' circus.....
The first time Ed starts to sing is always the best part for me. His voice is so powerful and just fills the room. It's not that I forget what it sounds like, but I still always get chills. Boots and youtubes don't do it justice. So that's my favorite part (and judging by the crowd's reaction I know I'm not the only one).
Recognizing a song from the first few notes being played, and the excitement of hearing a rarer number.

After being to so many shows - I think the best part of live shows are the people- not in general, but the people you meet in line or outside the venue - the people who are sharing there stories- The lady wearing her shirt that reads " My 100th Show",... sow her in SD. You just have the most amazing conversations with these folks- Some of those stories are incredible, no matter if it's someone who has just been to one show- they all have something interesting to tell.
getting ticket confermations........the rest is all a blur.....
to be honest... taking someone to a show that has never been to pearl jam concert....and telling them for HOURs and hours...."this is something you have never seen before"..."your not just in the crowd your part of the show".........."so get ready AND DONT EVEN THINK ABOOUT SITTING DOWN"
for the last ten shows i have tryed to take someone that has never been to pearl jam conert...with a 10C number of 136,152 ...dont have to twist the arm that hard....one of my buddies is into crazy hard core metal AND ONLY METAL....took him last year to msg 1.......he has been asking since to take him to another show/\..
The middle of Rearviewmirror. The lighting and drums in sync, Ed and the crowd starts screaming SAW THINGS CLEARER ONCE YOU WERE IN MY REARVIEWMIRROR. The only place I wanna be at that moment in time.

Honestly...this might kind sound of cheesy, but the Alive solo. Every time, it gets me.
I was going to say the same thing.
I love the "HEY!" participation from the crowd that they've been doing the past few years too, but I wish people would be patient and wait to start it up at the proper time.
That and the audience participation in "Do The Evolution." Very cool.
I suggest you step out on your porch...run away my son...see it all...oh see the world // I wait on the porch...hoping someday I'll be let in

WOW. The last time I saw them, the crowd was singing along so loud that we couldn't even hear the band anymore. It was great. We just drowned them out. Eddie just quit singing and had his mic facing the crowd. The band kept playing, but no one could hear them. It lasted quite a while also.
I love their light show. I can get mesmarized by it.
I love the energy of the crowd. I am able to look around and grab some of it when I am there live.
Them there is the little special things, like Eddie doing a solo for "those who come early" and one time, he came out in an old man's clothes, with a wig and fake face mask. Almost no one realized it was Eddie. It was before the show started and things were still getting set up. He just walked out and putzed around.
I love when I am able to see part of back stage. I can watched them walk from the back BEFORE they take the stage. Lastly, I love being able to watch what I want, not only what someone with a camera chooses for me to watch. Like, what other band memebers are doing at any given time.

I have a bootleg of a show I went to and at one point it was quiet, so I yelled out, "we love you, Eddie". I can hear it on the boot.
The anticipation of what the first song will be is what gets my blood pumping. London 09 was the most excited i have ever been when they played Release as i had never had that as a opener. I had lost my voice a few days earlier but i didn't deter me from showing how excited i was. What will the be opener 5 months today, anyone?
