I made the mistake of leaving the Fixer area and hanging down the back with a mate who had Backspacer tickets. The sound up there was pretty bad, especially near the end.

Never thought Id do this but I left the concert before they had even finished (start of RITFW).

When I first walked out to get a beer and go to the dunny, I asked 6 security guards where to ge and they all pointed me in different (and incorrect directions). I walked for ages!!!! No beer either on the field and when you left you had to walk all the way thru the Backspacer field All other cities have had HEAPS of different access points

I got to hear Whipping and Down so was stoked with that

BUT out of all the 4 concerts Ive been to so far that ranked a distant 4th. Disappointing in my home town…..the organizers didn’t do a good job in my opinion

Light Years was dedicated to my son that was stillborn a few weeks ago. My wife and myself are still blown away by this.
  • This would have to be the first time in ages they have not closed the final show in a city with Ledbetter...

To those of you that lined up in that heat, well done - that is true dedication!

just how hot was it at this show? judging from the pics you would think the guys were playing in the dead middle of summer.

Just found this on youtube. It's his attempt of an 'aussie accent' and he has a dig at the poms too.

It would have been about 40 degrees outside during the day. Ed doesn't wear shorts unless its really stinking hot, and wouldnt take that top shirt off to reveal a singlet unless he had to :D

I arrived at about midday to line up in 10c line. There were already 100+ people there. I stood there for 10 minutes (no shelter) and knew i would not be able to wait 4 hours. So i went off to fox studios for 2 hours to sit in the shade where I also listened to the soundcheck - even there it was like an oven. I'm sure PJ would have been indoors most of day but they certanly would have felt the heat when they came out on stage. Couldn't believe both ben harper and liam finn came out in long pants and sleeves

I love his run through the middle of the barriers at each show, its a real highlight. The crush from behind was extreme, not sure why people 2, 3, 4 and more back from the barrier think they will be able to reach him (I didnt get a touch and i was on the barrier), but my ribs felt like they were gonna break for those few minutes.

Im still amazed at Ed's courage last night and his selflessness in not wanting to disappoint anyone despite how he feels.

I went to Melbourne and can't say that one show was better than the other. each were special in their own way, but to be honest I think Sydney will be the one I remember for a long time to come due to the unusual circumstances and the personal insight into Ed's legendary abilities and generosity.

That is disappoointing to hear. Do you think it has to do with you going up to backspacer? I can tell you from where I was it was going off 4th row Mike's side. My mate who pretty much only came to hear Alive absolutley loved the concert.

Yeah Im pretty convinced it was. Havent heard any issue from others that were up front so I believe its where I was standing. The last few songs I could hardly hear.

My own fault!!! I was pretty appalled at the venue staff though

Bring on the rest of the tour

I would have to agree, the WORST venue staff i have ever come accross, I could not belive how bad they were. The sound was good from stands i was on mikes side, 1st section, It was a good show though

Well I had issues with the sound.... couldn't hear the support acts over the wankers in front of us "talking" They pretty much drowned out some parts of Ben Harper R7... which tells me the sound was bad.

Compared to the other venues... Sydney sucked.. Security/food/drinks/sound/crowd (probably arseholes thinking they are beetter than the next person or something haha)

The pearl Jam show was great though!

lol you cant blame 'wankers' for talking for not hearing at a concert.

  • i got in pretty much in front of jeff about fifteen metres from him, thats the closest ive ever been at a pj concert. because i got in early and didnt want to lose my spot i stood from 4.30 onwards, lost about 8 kilos i was sweating that much! But wow, once they got out there everybody lifted, they ripped into why go, hail hail and courduroy, it seemed so fast everyone was singing and 'dancing' around and they sounded so loud and proud.

Not just me, but i think everyone around me ran out of puff at stages, but just about everybody sang every song and lifted when the band did. Ill echo others comments in praising ed, you could tell he was struggling and was pissed off with it, but he soldiered on and, honsetly, he sounded pretty damn fine to me. This was a great show the guys amaze me every time i see them they always deliver.

Just on the way home from work i was listening to Triple M (which is unusual for me) and the DJ goes 'why didnt they play the songs everybody knows?' Unbelieveable. I just laughed, i was stoked they played Dissident, Garden, Light Years, Whipping, Mankind and all those songs 'nobody' knows. They have released more than two albums!! I think Ten got a decent outing in any case.

All in all what a night despite my legs which don't feel like they are there at the moment, but it was all worth it to see that performance. Special mentions to Mike who was going beserk all night, ed's courage and devotion, harper for mosquito and indifference.

I was prob 4 rows back on Mike's side. During Corduroy, Mike was looking straight at me, I was thinkin is he looking at me?
He then mouthed 'Are you alright?" I had my mouth wide open, thinking is he talking to me? and he said again "are you alright?" I don't know how I must of been looking in this 40 degree weather watching my favourite band in the whole world, mouth still wide open, and he again mouthed 'Are you alright?" By this 3rd time I definitely knew he was talking to me, so I gave him thumbs up and he gave a nod and continued to play. But he was watching out for everyone, and visibly distressed during a solo when some girl had passed out and was been passed through the crowd.

Oh, I LOVE this! I had the biggest smile on my face reading this... awesome! Thanks for posting pics of the poster and t-shirt... LOVE the t-shirt, can't wait to get my hands on it :D Does it have the Swans logo on the front too with PJ?

I don't blame the DJ for saying that. Majority of the people there would just be casual fans.
Knowing that Eddie was not feeling very good, they should of played some of their bigger hits during the main set, it could of helped his voice out a bit as songs like betterman daughter etc get big crowd sing-along’s

Ahhhh Shucks..... :) thanks Vita Brits... :)
  • Well done to Ed for pulling through. Stoked I got to hear Dissident and Down.

The thing that really rubbed me up the wrong way was the drunken dick heads that were that were rpughing up on everyone, male or female. I was right in front of Ed about 4 people from the front and during Liam Finn and Ben Harper is was the 10C feel that we are all used to; everyone keeping an eye on each other, sharing water, respecting space ect.

Then the drunken yobbo's came in roughing everyone up and not sharing the water which was being distributed by security.

I wish there was a 10C only section, because we all go there for the music and to see our favourite band.

It didn't turn my night into bad night, but just something I could have done without; being elbowed in the side having people trying to crowd surf by jumping over my shoulders and surging forward squashing everyone on the barrier. I do understand that if we want to be up the front that this is what we should expect..... Just saying it would have been nice to have a 10C section.

Opera house/Metro/Enmore gig for 10C members would have been awesome. Maybe Ed and the boys will make up for it next year with a 'one off'.... If they felt they needed to...
  • This was my first PJ gig and it blew my mind! I think they did an amazing job esp. Eddie! Highlights for me included Given To Fly, Corduroy and Porch!
I thought the set list was great and my only other wish was that they played Jeremy as this is a fav of mine.
I got there at midday and swear that at the end of the day i was 5 kilos lighter due to the heat!

I really wish i had been able to go to earlier concerts but am glad my first was a great night.

This was the weakest of all the PJ shows I've seen, but that was understandable given Ed's voice.

I told someone at work today that Pearl Jam on a bad night is still better than most bands on a good night.

Here's a couple of clips from last night including Stone singing Mankind:

  • having the melbourne show from friday to compare it to, i think sydney wasn't as good. it's a shame EV was sick for the concert...but what a trooper!!!! he pulled out what he could and performed really well all things considered. it may also be that for melbourne i was in the fixer section about 15 metres from the stage ;-)

i didn't find the sound too bad, i was at the back left of the field seated. glad they had the speaker stacks in the middle otherwise sound would have sucked. was pissed off that the venue managers turned on the stadium lights halfway through the second last song!! i understand they have a curfew but...

was cool to see stone sing! throw your arms with liam finn was great as was red mosquito and indifference with ben harper...

overall a good gig, just SO DAMN HOT
