When will Ed learn his own lyrics?

ha ha ha Very very true!!!
You're so cute, doompony! I can't wait to meet you in November!
i'm gonna take a boom box to the auck gig to make sure they don't go over time on any songs. plus i'm going to distribute song lyrics to the audience with the unicorn headbands.0 -
I saw 4 of the recent shows, and eddie read the words to got some too, tyhe fixer and the real me?
did it distract from the performance? not a fucking bit.
Seriously dude i have no idea where you are coming from with this.
even comedians have reminders on stage with them, does it make it less funny?0 -
Look...let's talk about the more important matter in Berlin:
WHAT THE FUCK HAS HE DONE TO HIS HAIR? He never used to have a widow's peak!?!?

i have a widows peak... i've always hated it in junction with a slight cowlick on one side... can't imagine purposely giving myself one. there was nothing wrong with his hair before.0 -

Christ, he used the Yield CD insert while singing Low Light at Greatwoods in 2003. I thought it was fantastic.
Honestly, if this takes away from your experience, you should probably stop going to shows. As someone said, the only way he'll be flawless during a gig is if they keep doing the same sets every night. And then, you'd have some seriously pissed off fans.0 -
I don't mind if Ed messes up the lyrics. Shit happens! I still truly amazes me that he has the ability to remember as much as he does. It is simply inconceivable that anyone can remember all those lyrics night after night...and then remember them again on the next tour.
it is truly remarkable.0 -
If I drank as much wine as he did during shows, I'd mess up all the lyrics too.

I don't mind that he messes them up. We all know them anyway, so we can just sing along if he needs help remembering! Keep in mind they do a different setlist every night and they have hundreds of songs in their repertoire!Chicago 2000 : Chicago 2003 : Chicago 2006 : Summerfest 2006 : Lollapalooza 2007 : Chicago 2009 : Noblesville (Indy) 2010 : PJ20 (East Troy) 2011 : Wrigley Field 2013 : Milwaukee (Yield) 2014 : Wrigley Field 20160 -

That "lyric book" isn't filled with old lyrics. It's filled with new lyrics he's working on. Occassionally, back in the day, he might improvise some stuff out of there.
I don't think he has a lyric book with "I Got Shit" in it. For one, it would be almost impossible to follow a lyric book and play guitar at the same time.
As for the original poster, I wasn't at the show in question, so I don't know. But I've never known him to read off a lyric sheet for his own songs. I'd imagine, if that's what he was doing, it's gone by the time the post-Backspacer tour starts up.
On a side note, I once saw REM. Michael Stipe used lyric sheets on every song. He had a little stand up there with him, like an orchestra member might use for sheet music. He looked like a conductor.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

wtf ........i hope this is a sarcastic posttheo667 wrote:if he can't practice the song and remember his own lyrics i find it difficult for me to have a good time at the show..i get a feeling that someone is not so honest with me..
come on now..fresh album after 3 years and he can't remember the lyrics from fixer or got some?
it's a shame..
how can you NOT have a good time at a pearl jam show ???0 -

He definitely uses "lyric cards" in his solo and Pearl Jam shows. I get excited when his guitar tech brings out a card because you know a rarer song is going to get played. He definitely has one for Sometimes that doesn't have the full lyrics, but just reminder words "Rise, Fall, Cringe, etc...".
There is nothing wrong with having some reminders for the lyrics at the shows. For Ed it is probably 4-5 songs at the most.0 -

The Sometimes one probably stems from San Francisco '06.

I am in disbelief reading this. Come ON. I am a singer in a band who does originals, and there's one song that I occasionally f**k up the words to. And we only have one album's worth of material. My guitarist f**ks up his licks sometimes, it happens.
Look at Benaroya. The band completely f**ked up Thin Air and they PUT IT ON THE RECORD, with Eddie making a joke about it. I personally think that those screw ups are what make the band great. They laugh at themselves, they aren't perfect. It makes the show I'm seeing special.
I cannot believe there are people on here that expect to see the finished product live. That is unattainable, unless you are seeing Rush, which is akin to seeing robots playing live.
I'd much rather a band play with emotion and f**k up than stand still and play perfectly, not for note and word for word.Gimli 1993
