I would never ever ever ever eat a cheesesteak outside of the Philly area unless the proprietor is from the Philly area.

I make them at home..i buy a nice porterhouse steak...sweet onion...canned mushrooms(canned are sooo much better on a c.s.) .....and a nice french persian bread fresh from the market...either white american or cheddar cheese...shit is awesome!!

I can't imagine that they are any different really....I mean it's steak, onion, I like hot peppers, provolone, mayo

    delicious

It just doesn't taste the same outside of the Philly area. I know the ingredients are the same. It's just something intangible.
    intangible?????

    NICE WORD!!!!!

    hehehehehe......................

its too early in the morning for me to come up with words like intangible.....hehehehe
    Take me piece by piece.....

That's cool and all.....I'm just an avid supporter that the rolls here are just better than in other areas of the country. And canned mushrooms? C'mon, man.

that's why I'm so surprised that anyone in Philly would put cheese whiz on something so tremendous

not saying you do but it always surprised me

Silly? When I was up in Rhode Island, as a goof I took a stab at trying their "cheesesteak". I got a slab of skirt steak on a round roll, with green peppers, and a slice of cheese. Now, that's silly. And don't get me started on what they served me as what should have been a stromboli. Unbelievable.

Individual places...there are plenty of good cheesesteaks outside of Philly. PLenty of good pizza outside of Chicago...I htink you get the point. Now, it may be more hit and miss outside of the "home" area.

Ya see, that's what I mean. That's not a cheesesteak. That's something, alright, but it's not a cheesesteak. And with au jus for dipping? This is sounding more and more like a roast beef sandwich.

That was hysterical the way John Kerry was and is still mocked in Philly for ordering a cheesesteak with swiss cheese.

Oh, I've had solid attempts at a cheesesteak in other parts of the country and NONE of them come close to one around here. Even the worst one around here is better than any outside of here. Draw a circle around Philly from up to about Allentown to the north, Harriburg to the west, eastern shore of Maryland/Cape May, NJ to the south and AC to the east and you have your region. And it's because the rolls in this area are serviceable to those areas. It's all about our rolls.
