Ticket prices are so high because Ed and the boys like to wear diamond encrusted underwear. I know this because my dog impregnated Ed's dog, and he told me.
And by "he" I mean the dog.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

I originally spoke with Eddie in October 1993 over the telephone.
If you're able to listen to the Rockline interview from back then,
you'll see that he gave out his home telephone number because he
was buzzed and didn't realize the radio show was over. After about an hour,
I called his house and he answered. I spoke with him for about 10 minutes.
Most of the conversation was of a humorous note. He talked about the thickness
of a rhino's skin and about the Church of Latter Day Saints. At the end of our converstaion,
he said we were friends and he'd talk to me again.
I got to meet him personally for about 5 minutes on April 7, 1994.
It was right after the Rochester, NY show. I asked him if he remembered
our conversation from Rockline, 6 months earlier. He smiled and said "we're
still friends, right ? "
I met him again at the Toronto show on 5/9/06 with the
whole band. They signed my 'Binaural' album and I also got
to meet Doug Gilmour, one of the best hockey players ever.
He was there with the band hanging out after the show.
In 2005, I hung out with Wintersleep who were the opening
band for 2 shows in St. John's, Newfoundland. We got to go to
the bands hotel room at the Delta and see Mike get "screeched-in" which
is an old Newfoundland tradition where you kiss a dead cod fish.
Mike gave me a guitar pick. Jeff was stoned and playing Playstation.
Eddie was real mellow and didn't say much, except for the fact that
he wanted to see the ocean.
It's obvious that I don't have an influence on the guy to
suggest who opens for them, or how to make ticket prices affordable,
or to keep my posts from being locked on this forum.
I only go by his words, and I will always consider him a friend.
Cool story.
Don't know if the word friend as you used it, would be how I would define it, but as you mentioned everyone is different. More power to you, you are definitely more 'friends' with Ed than I will ever be.
I'm pretty sure Kathy Bates considered James Caan a "friend" in Misery.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

Then he says I think their getting ready to shut it down cause he getting too many calls.
Of course I call and I get "We're sorry the number you have dialed is no longer in service.

For an $81 ticket, as a consumer, I would expect
to see a better opening act than Ted Leo. It's obvious that one band is making a boatload
of cash and the other is just along for the ride. I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm only saying that I'm
surprised and disappointed because I expected more from the best band in the world.
I, for one, agree with you 110%. I thought Ted Leo was awful. Worst opening band I've ever seen. I think sometimes people forget the purpose of an opening act. It's to warm up the crowd. Not for the crown to warm up the opening act. And in this regard, Ted Leo fails miserably. And the ticket price does include admission to the opening band, so I don't think it's too much to ask if want want an opening band that actually entertains us.

Wow...that was totally uncalled for and I thought it was directed towards Kat. *shakes head*
I have several great friends there and like I said earlier, good thing it wasn't done in person cuz I'd have slapped him.... harder now that I know who he was referring to. :P
But now that's over and Kat took care of it by locking the thread... and this poster's apology is a moot now.
I put him in the same category as Snoopy Died For Our SIns.... but everyone would disagree with me because everyone told me he was the nicest person you could ever met... reallly?
If he was, he wouldn't have sold his LA tickets for $200 dollars instead of to somebody from here for face value: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pearl-Jam-Tickets-1 ... 911.c0.m14
Yeah... I'm sure he's the nicest person you've ever met.JA: Why do I get the Ticketmaster question?
EV: It's your band.

I know I'm in the minority here but it never seemed to me that ticket prices are all that over the top. I know $100 (CDN) is not a small amount, but for what you get and compared to others? I know that just because some bands really screw it to the fans that doesn't make charging less but still too much right, but how often are you seeing the band in concert? For most of us, probably once or twice every few years if your lucky. So for me, I don't have a problem spending $100 bucks for a night with my favorite band. They reward the fans with a better show than anyone else out there. I don't have a fabulous, great paying job and it isn't breaking my bank. It'd be nice if every ticket was $30 or $40 but really it's not possible. I don't mean to step on anyone's toes here, just my opinion on the matter.0
