band for 2 shows in St. John's, Newfoundland. We got to go to
the bands hotel room at the Delta and see Mike get "screeched-in" which
is an old Newfoundland tradition where you kiss a dead cod fish.
Mike gave me a guitar pick. Jeff was stoned and playing Playstation.
Eddie was real mellow and didn't say much, except for the fact that
he wanted to see the ocean.
It's obvious that I don't have an influence on the guy to
suggest who opens for them, or how to make ticket prices affordable,
or to keep my posts from being locked on this forum.
I only go by his words, and I will always consider him a friend.
Cool story.
Don't know if the word friend as you used it, would be how I would define it, but as you mentioned everyone is different. More power to you, you are definitely more 'friends' with Ed than I will ever be.

I agree with some folks on the definition of friendship... but like benjs said, its possible if it left some impact...
I've made friends that way... and it does sound kinda creepy because EV is a famous person. He remembered this person and based on his words, EV enjoyed his company.
I wouldn't have used that in an argument though... it's an entirely separate issue here, from my understanding - because the issue was about the opening band. As a friend, one would understand that it has nothing to do with friends outside of the bands themselves making decisions together. No brainer there?
And for that name calling.... ouch. Luckily this wasn't done in person...I'd have done some face slapping. :P
An apology directly to Kat would have been more appropriate, I think, in private because it was directed towards her, right?

I don't want to kick when you're down, but as a European fan these statements sometimes get the best of me:
"Getting back to the original point, I know some of you deep down, have to feel
the same as I do. What ever happened to affordable ticket prices ? 10 Club tickets
do not ensure you have good seats. The same fan base show after show, are in the front row.
For an $81 ticket, as a consumer, I would expect
to see a better opening act than Ted Leo. It's obvious that one band is making a boatload
of cash and the other is just along for the ride. I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm only saying that I'm
surprised and disappointed because I expected more from the best band in the world."
You know as a European fan you don't have seats, seniority and all the other stuff. You're just happy that your favorite band performs and that you were able to watch it. PJ doesn't tour Europe every year. You get your fanclub ticket, you have access 15 minutes before the rest of the audience, you have to fight for your spot. That's it. When you have to work or if the public transport doesn't work properly, well you're fucked. You're standing next to a person who bought this ticket by accident and didn't know PJ made albums after Ten... And screams for "Alive" every other song...
Don't get me wrong, I accept all this, but this entitlement to fandome, as a non-US citizen, is sometimes upsetting...
Show me any other band that does this much for their fanbase and go to this length (Christmas singles, newsletters, priority in tickets, fighting with venues etc) and you may have a point... If not this is all about privilege... And this is nothing more than whining from a privileged position...0 -

I expected a response like this. Well lived there for four years and after the trainwreck of Bush you rather than me. I'm glad I live in Europe. (Health insurance, financial security etc. All the things Republicans are scared of...) All I'm saying is: put things in perspective...0 -

Honestly, I'd much rather be living there in Europe and just watching all this ridiculous complaining (the useless ones, I mean) and entitlement attitudes.
I can only imagine your frustrations because you don't get to see your favorite band as much as we do here... we really are assholes and self-absorbed here. :P
But.. I would trade places with you in a split second if you wanted to see the band here and I wanted to live the life over there....say for a year?

Hubby would be a great host in showing you cool places.. jesus I was born here and hubby comes here from FL and knows just about every place... I'm still surprised to find some places I've never known my entire life. :-/
