Even though they dont play many, it's a nice treat when you do get them! Also, they play about an hour longer then any other arena band out there! Just my two cents!

So you're saying arena bands only play for an hour and 15 minutes? What shows have you been going to !?!?!?! And is it too late to get a refund?

And about an hour (at least) shorter than Phish. I still love 'em though :D

Phish is boring, imo. They drag songs out waaaaay too long. If your down with spinning in circles for 3 hours, then Phish is your band. But if you wanna rock and roll, Pearl Jam is what you're looking for!!
They definitely do drag songs out way too long sometimes.. I was lucky that my first (and only at this point) Phish show was not too jam-heavy.. also, before you knock it, it's worth going to one - the light show is PHENOMENAL, the musicianship is truly mind-blowing (even if you hate their music - which I'd say I do), and the experience is so much fun. Between throwing beach balls around, to the glowstick war that went on between the lawns and the seats, to watching the drummer take a vacuum cleaner solo, to doing solos on trampolines, to an a Capella version of Hello My Baby (which they screwed up and decided to switch instruments and let the drummer sing for Pink Floyd's Bike), it was a totally enjoyable evening. And by the way - they played for four hours - a perfectly average length Phish set.

You try carrying that energy for 2.5 hours. I would safely say that PJ shows average out to about 2.5 hours for the most part. That's not too damn shabby. And Phish doesn't have anything close to "Blood." Try belting that out and then trying to sing "Reign O'er Me."

    That buffalo show was amazing

Yeah, they dont hit 3 hrs often... but I think it is very fair to say they hit 2hr 30 min alot... not ALL THE TIME... and i can tell you they never will again in mansfield cause of the city ordinance and curfew... but once you got to Bonaroo on last years tour... most of those shows hit atleast 2hr 30 min other than mansfield...

Id say anything over 2 hrs is pretty good and normal for a WORLD FAMOUS band... when you hit 2hr 30min and more... your getting a treat in my opinion... especially with Pearl Jam cause I dont even think they know how long the show is gonna be at the beginning of it... and thats why i love them!

and you cant put a "JAM BAND" in the same category, way different music with a lot less ENERGY and intensity than a PJ show

I have seen Phish 2x. Once I was actually a security at a show in Hershey, PA. I was right in front of the stage. It was a cool experience, but they are still boring to me. Maybe it would've been better if I was tripping, lol.

If they just played the same amount of songs at the NORMAL speed instead of RAMONES speed, then you would have a 3 hr show.

Serioulsy, Given to Fly live is dangerously close to becoming the "Punk Version".

It's not bad, but you can see why they can play 3 hours though. No strain on the larynx there. He sounds too much like he belongs in a barbershop quartet.
  • Is there a site that lists the length of their concerts?

I got into the Pit for the IZOD center show this year (the one that caused all the controversy) and it was AMAZING!!!! I don't have tix to see him again because I don't think anything will live up to that night.

And while PJ almost never play 3 hour shows- they're still the best band I've seen live (Bruce and Radiohead are close seconds).

I'm going to 3 of the Giants Stadium shows in October (what a month - 3 bruce shows and 2 PJ shows!) I've seen Bruce close to 20 times. He is amazing... there is no question PJ has drawn inspiration from him, both in song-writing and in approach to concerts/set-lists/tourinng.

  • It's not quantity, it's quality. I'll take 2 hours of PJ over 4 hours of Nickelback any day. Queen, who many consider to be THE greatest live band in the history of rock music rarely played a set over 2 hours. But everyone still left their shows in complete awe and loving it. Sometimes, you just have to leave 'em wanting more.
