Pearl Jam does not play 3 hour sets!

I see post after post mentioning 3 hour sets, particularly when defending the high ticket prices. I have seen PJ 15 times and I have yet to see a 3 hour show. Last year they came on stage a bit before 9PM and were off by 11PM. That's 2 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes on average. Sure they have played 3 hour sets in Mansfield and State College the last couple years, and EV always mentions onstage that they arent going anywhere for a while, but lets be honest, less than 5% of the sets hit 3 hours.
The less you know, the more you believe.

I've been to 7 shows and they hit 2 hrs 45 mins four times (DC 08, both MSG 08, ER II 06). I think DC 08 was the longest at about 2:50. But yeah, they have this rep as a 3 hour show band, and I've been to a few 3 hour shows from other bands (Ween, even Chris Cornell) but never from Pearl Jam. It's pretty rare. The other three times I've seen them it was more 2 hours 20 minutes. I'm not complaining, but sometimes it seems that 3 hours is the norm based on discussion on here when that's not really true.

I think people have a tendency to round up when talking about show length.

Ahhh... such a great show (my 1st)...I love that they had to huddle a number of times to decide which songs to ADD to the set list...

So you're saying arena bands only play for an hour and 15 minutes? What shows have you been going to !?!?!?! And is it too late to get a refund?

They definitely do drag songs out way too long sometimes.. I was lucky that my first (and only at this point) Phish show was not too jam-heavy.. also, before you knock it, it's worth going to one - the light show is PHENOMENAL, the musicianship is truly mind-blowing (even if you hate their music - which I'd say I do), and the experience is so much fun. Between throwing beach balls around, to the glowstick war that went on between the lawns and the seats, to watching the drummer take a vacuum cleaner solo, to doing solos on trampolines, to an a Capella version of Hello My Baby (which they screwed up and decided to switch instruments and let the drummer sing for Pink Floyd's Bike), it was a totally enjoyable evening. And by the way - they played for four hours - a perfectly average length Phish set.

You try carrying that energy for 2.5 hours. I would safely say that PJ shows average out to about 2.5 hours for the most part. That's not too damn shabby. And Phish doesn't have anything close to "Blood." Try belting that out and then trying to sing "Reign O'er Me."

    That buffalo show was amazing

Yeah, they dont hit 3 hrs often... but I think it is very fair to say they hit 2hr 30 min alot... not ALL THE TIME... and i can tell you they never will again in mansfield cause of the city ordinance and curfew... but once you got to Bonaroo on last years tour... most of those shows hit atleast 2hr 30 min other than mansfield...

Id say anything over 2 hrs is pretty good and normal for a WORLD FAMOUS band... when you hit 2hr 30min and more... your getting a treat in my opinion... especially with Pearl Jam cause I dont even think they know how long the show is gonna be at the beginning of it... and thats why i love them!

and you cant put a "JAM BAND" in the same category, way different music with a lot less ENERGY and intensity than a PJ show

I have seen Phish 2x. Once I was actually a security at a show in Hershey, PA. I was right in front of the stage. It was a cool experience, but they are still boring to me. Maybe it would've been better if I was tripping, lol.
