saw bruce for the first time when he opened the staples center in los angeles. he played for 3 hours and had the crowd in a frenzy. never saw anything like it for an l.a. crowd. hats off to that man. if you haven't seen bruce, i recommend seeing him once in your lifetime.
I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched. I died and you walked by and said no. I'm dead.
You try carrying that energy for 2.5 hours. I would safely say that PJ shows average out to about 2.5 hours for the most part. That's not too damn shabby. And Phish doesn't have anything close to "Blood." Try belting that out and then trying to sing "Reign O'er Me."
Tre has an awful voice.
It's not bad, but you can see why they can play 3 hours though. No strain on the larynx there. He sounds too much like he belongs in a barbershop quartet.

I got into the Pit for the IZOD center show this year (the one that caused all the controversy) and it was AMAZING!!!! I don't have tix to see him again because I don't think anything will live up to that night.
And while PJ almost never play 3 hour shows- they're still the best band I've seen live (Bruce and Radiohead are close seconds).

I'm going to 3 of the Giants Stadium shows in October (what a month - 3 bruce shows and 2 PJ shows!) I've seen Bruce close to 20 times. He is amazing... there is no question PJ has drawn inspiration from him, both in song-writing and in approach to concerts/set-lists/tourinng.

It's not quantity, it's quality. I'll take 2 hours of PJ over 4 hours of Nickelback any day. Queen, who many consider to be THE greatest live band in the history of rock music rarely played a set over 2 hours. But everyone still left their shows in complete awe and loving it. Sometimes, you just have to leave 'em wanting more.

Even though they dont play many, it's a nice treat when you do get them! Also, they play about an hour longer then any other arena band out there! Just my two cents!
So you're saying arena bands only play for an hour and 15 minutes? What shows have you been going to !?!?!?! And is it too late to get a refund?
Kings of Leon in Boston back in April. Took the stage right around 9pm and finished by 10:25. I love them to death, and they are very good live, just way, way too short of a show.

Too true. I saw them at the Paramount in Seattle last year (with a guest appearance from eV), and it was a short one, too. I hope that as they evolve, they turn into more of a soulful, jam-oriented band, because their songs are so bloody short that they can play 15 or 20 songs in the time it takes most bands to play 10.
Nobody is going to question their value as a headlining act, but it would be nice to see them throw a little more into their shows...
I have been to 31 shows, and I have only ever seen 2 3hour sets: Buffalo 03 & Ottawa 05.
great, great shows...I was there as well. Buffalo was my first. 31 huh? London will be my 18th...Seattle's will be my 19th and 20th...take a break for a couple tours and maybe I'll catch up!

Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
I've seen Pearl Jam 11 times, and they played 3 hours 2 times: Philly 2005 and East Rutherford 2006. Only 2 of those shows did they play LESS then 2-and-a-half Hours: Camden-2 and Mansfield-1(which i will NEVER drive 5 hours up ther again>LOL) in 2008. The remaining show were between 2:30-2:45.
So you're saying arena bands only play for an hour and 15 minutes? What shows have you been going to !?!?!?! And is it too late to get a refund?

We are certainly spoiled when it comes to PJ, as the 2.5 hr shows are the norm. Kings aren't there yet, but they certainly have the catalog to do so. Also, Caleb doesn't interact with the audience like Ed does, but I think that could come with time. Are you going to the 9-11 show at Tweeter? I'll be there, and I'll be damned if I don't get to hear Trani. I've been to every Boston area show they've done, and yet to hear it. I hope I'm lucky this time around.
Hell YES BONNAROO!! Amazing show!! The only negative part of it was that while I was singing along to EVERY SINGLE FUCKING SONG (did I mention is was amazing), I was massively dehydrated by the end of the first hour, and probably somewhat high from all of the fumes around me. But it was worth the discomfort, since I waited 4 hours for the pit, got 3rd row, and saw the best concert OF MY LIFE!!!
I see post after post mentioning 3 hour sets, particularly when defending the high ticket prices. I have seen PJ 15 times and I have yet to see a 3 hour show. Last year they came on stage a bit before 9PM and were off by 11PM. That's 2 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes on average. Sure they have played 3 hour sets in Mansfield and State College the last couple years, and EV always mentions onstage that they arent going anywhere for a while, but lets be honest, less than 5% of the sets hit 3 hours.
I've been to 16 shows now I think.. the only 3 hour show I've seen was Buffalo 2003.

Although I've only seen them 4 times, one of my favourite shows was WPB '08, which was only 1hr 45min long. I also saw Ottawa '05 and admit that it was great as well; however, there were some songs that I didn't really care for in this 3hr set.
