This is the problem. Why is it that, in order to fit in at all, women have to spend so much money? (Maybe we should be paid more than men, then, instead of less.
)
I don't color my hair or have any fancy hair-do. When I get it trimmed it's just a straight line across the bottom; I don't even have them blow-dry it. That's got to be less difficult than even a man's haircut. And yet I can't find a decent trim for less than $40, as some people have already pointed out. Why do salons have two-tiered pricing systems? Too bad we can't boycott. Maybe I should bind my breasts and lower my voice and tell them I'm just a man with long hair. Then maybe I could get a decent cut at a decent price.
And don't even get me started about $50 bras, $12 panties, $35 moisturizers, $20 lipsticks, $75 shoes (for each $250 bridesmaids dress - or any other nice outfit), $45 manicures/pedicures, etc., etc. - and I'm not even talking about the fancy places! :mad:0 -
GreenTeaDisease wrote:where on earth are you finding $15 hair cuts? the GUY I work with was going nuts trying to find one for under $40.
yes, there ARE starving people in the world. are you giving all the extra money you save on your righteous haircuts to starving people???
God, I'm sorry I posted how much the damn cut and color cost if I knew I was going to get this much f-ing flack. I was trying to make a point about how poor the service was. and AGAIN, the CUT did not cost $200, the STREAKS did. jesus, you try to do something cool and change your appearance and get some streaks in your hair and suddenly your causing all the problems in the world. I met a guy last night who bought a $1000 prada bag. I think that's beyond nuts, but to each his f-ing own.
Not everyone
Other than coloring my hair myself, I spend major $$ on "beautification" stuff.
As far as the stylist.. she's in the service industry. I would definitely either a) not go back to her or b) have a talk with her. But the problem is..if you ever "talk" with someone, I always worry that they're going to take out their resentment on my hair/nails/whatever... kind of like complaining to a food service person and wondering if your dinner is going to get spit in

I always tip the hairdresser... but mainly cos they're lovely at the place I go to, very helpful and really good at their jobs... AND it's quite cheap (cos it's at home instead of in Dublin so it's about a third of Dublin prices)MattCameronKicksButt wrote:You tipped the hairdresser!
If you think she's good then keep seeing her but surely don't tip her if you think she's rude to you.

absolutely, completely rude for her to speak to you like that. however, by tipping her, returning there, etc...it perpetuates the behavior. i understand why you said nothing, and even tipped...you love how she does your hair/color...want to return...but yea, it's a shite situation to be in. perhaps, politely, you could comment to her next time you go back? otherwise, yea...ignore it if you think her services make it worth your while...or find another salon. as good as she may be, i am sure there are others.
I've got it... if you go again and this happens.... start to cry and say how you're generally sorry for ruining her day and if you'd known that would happen you wouldn't have got out of bed at all... cos your dog died yesterday and you just needed some salon therapy to lift your spirits a bit.
Now watch the fucking bitch change her story

I LOVE IT!!
Now all I need is the Burberry raincoat!!

Although I do love the perfume, was it Burberry London? I've had people following me around sniffing me when I wear that. One girl just gave me the money and told me to buy it for her

I dye my hair alot and I have to say that self bleaching in the best way to go, but cleaning it can be a nightmare. I'm well trained at scrubbing the bath due to some unfortunate spillages.no matter where you go,
there you are.

GreenTeaDisease wrote:yeah, I'm not really "able" to either, that's the problem. I think this is the second and last time I get color. that's the part that costs a lot. Actually, I'll probably need to get it once more to go back to my natural color.
Oh come on GTD,you must have been "able" to afford it or you would'nt have been able to get done what was done.Even if it was a treat and was saved up for.Why get such a high maintenance colour and cut if you cant keep it up and it ends up looking shit when the up keep stops. Its great to have a new look, goodness,my hair has been every colour imaginable but I did it at home whenever I could with the help of friends.
Also by tipping the hairdresser you are basically saying to her that regardless of how rude she was to you you'll still tip $20 or whatever, you have set the bar for her now continuing to treat you in this way as she has nothing left to lose, she gets to be rude, gets your custom AND gets tipped a ridiculous amount. You leave pissed of and she's thinking what a great client!Next time you go to the salon remember to take your backbone with you it will help you speak up when your not happy with the service.
Harsh, but non complainers, who then moan to everyone else piss me off.
I started going to a very good salon nine months ago but only started tipping last time I went. The previous few months allowed me to check the level of service, etc before I decided to stay and tip.“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”0 -
disclaimer: I don't see anything wrong with what you paid for your services. She was stuck up and rude to you. Ten years ago, I paid $120 plus tip to have my home hair disaster (brown dye on top of blonde dye = green hair) corrected.
She dyed it brownish red (my whole head to cover the green) and used foil for blonde highlites. No haircut. She was rude to me the next time I went to her, very snobby, called my color tacky blonde but was thrilled she matched it. So with inflation, I'd say you got a better deal.
I just do mine at home b/c I have roots with gray in 3 weeks and Garnier is cheaper. I won't go into details, but our family situation has changed now and we have huge grocery bills...9/98, 9/00 - DC, 4/03 - Pitt., 7/03 - Bristow, 10/04 - Reading, 10/05 - Philly, 5/06 - DC, 6/06 - Pitt., 6/08 - Va Beach, 6/08 - DC, 5/10 - Bristow, 10/13 B'more

Mens haircut at Supercuts is $11.95 plus tip.. I know the ladies there and they do just a good a job as I've spent at a fancy place.

This past summer I finally went to a well reputed salon, read all of the profiles, etc. I was sure they they were going to be worth the money and for once somebody would cut my hair as requested.
Well, $80(w/tip) later my hair was not as I requested, but the stylist said to give it a couple of days, see how I like it. If I didn't like it I could come back within 15 days for FREE.
The offer sounds good, but that FREE doesn't go without ANOTHER tip, so I didn't bother. So it's been six months since my last hair cut and I'm getting really frustrated over trying to find somebody to cut my hair as instructed.
It seems they are all afraid of cutting it too short!
I tell them, "Don't worry hair grows back.", but they never listen.
I wish my aunt would still cut my hair, she at least knows me well enough that when I say I want something, I mean it.Walking can be a real trip

At this point, I think I'm going to go to Great Clips and touch up their cut myself at home. I just can't do the back. They need to do the back correctly, which makes me very cautious of the $15 cut.Walking can be a real trip

THe last time I got a $15 haircut, the girl trimmed my sideburns to the top of my ears (without asking how I liked it)...but it was uneven...so she trimmed the other side...still uneven...back to the other side...and so on.....I ended up with a hairline on the side of my head about a half inch above my ear :eek:Urban Hiker wrote:At this point, I think I'm going to go to Great Clips and touch up their cut myself at home. After that, I vowed to find a decent stylist and stick with them....which I did. I pay about $35 now, but I get a good cut every time.......and she's hot and gives a mean scalp massage, so no more Supercuts for me.
k, I'm done talking salons with the girls
PS - wtf is a Burberry?0 -

Yet still no pictures!
Ok funny story. My husband was about to turn 40. He went to Supercuts to get his haircut. Now, most men I know go to Supercuts and get some cute 18 year old girlie with 5 different colors in her hair and a nice rack of boobies in their face for 20 minutes. Well at least that is what my husband admitted to me. Why not I say! Enjoy them boobies baby!
Unfortunately, they hooked him up with Valdimir. Some russian dude. Made him feel even older than 40. So for his 40th b-day present I hooked him up with a gift certificate to a really nice fancy salon. Completely totally hot woman to cut his hair and give him a traditional hot towel shave. It made him feel very nice and young again, and of course attractive!
Now not that 40's old. But I knew he needed the lift and it was worth every penny.Let's Go Red Sox!0 -
I agree about it being more of a wintery perfume... and armani code too... they're my two addictive perfumes. I've yet to find more than one summery one that I'm addicted too... I do love YSL babydoll though... just brings ya straight into summerroar wrote:i'm a burberry london girl as well.
