and I got a cut and the same color I did last time- red and yellow foil highlights. it cost me $200 with the tip! (they charged me $20 more than last time too!) and get this- the hairdresser- whom I went back to because she is very good- kept complaining the whole time that I was making her "work her ass off." I really just felt like being like "look lady, if you want to charge an arm and a leg for an f-ing hair cut and get a tip on top of it, you're going to give me as many damn foils as I want, and you're not going to stand there and bitch about it!"
I'm sorry but for $180 for a cut and highlights and a $20 tip, you'd better be working your ass off!
sorry that's my rant for the day. you wait until the clients leave to bitch and complain, you don't bitch and complain right to them!

I would love to be able to drop 200 bones on my hair, though! It feels so good to be pampered.
yeah, I'm not really "able" to either, that's the problem. I think this is the second and last time I get color. that's the part that costs a lot. Actually, I'll probably need to get it once more to go back to my natural color.
What was especially irritating, aside from all the money I paid to sit around all morning with someone hatin' on me, was that I had gone in in advance to make the appointment, decide how my hair would be done, and make sure she was cool with everything. Eight years later, and I was still afraid to get my hair done for my best friend's wedding a few months ago.
Sorry you had to put up with that this morning. :(
I'm just pretty sure I would get fired if I ever talked to a client like that.

i am dying to see what a $180 haircut looks like....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
quit being jealous that you have no hair to cut, first of all
she had color and highlites, it was not $180 for a JUST a haircut.
GTD, just wait til you get elderly like me. I have a mixture of gray and brown hair, so when I put a $6 box of Garnier dye on it (at home) it turns the gray to blonde and lightens the brown. Very inexpensive and my stylist complimented me. The shade is Light Brown (Acorn).

Besides, she gets paid so she shouldn't complain. It's her job. It's what she gets payed to do.
I love my stylist, I get a trim and color (and recently some funky red highlights in my dark brown/black hair to get me through the winter) every six/eight weeks and I don't pay more than $130 including tip.

It takes balls to put out a UKE album!
However, I started to grow my hair out, and it grew fast and it was long and thick, and she would start to bitch each time more and more about how annoying it is to do long hair, like she was talking to someone else! Finally, I would feel so uncomfortable when I went because I felt like she dreaded me, that I said, f**k it, and I stopped going to her. I tipped her really really well each time, and I was never a hard customer. I guess some people just are set in their ways, and forget that they are getting paid to do this!
Her loss I suppose.
they charge $120+ for partial foils. but honestly, it's about the same everywhere around here in the city. It's SLIGHTLY cheaper out in the suburbs, but not by much, and really, it is high quality. Honestly I don't think I could get this done this well for any cheaper. I agree it's ridiculous, but when I sort of decided I wanted to do something fun with my hair, I don't think I realized that color was quite so expensive (I mean tons of people have color! I had no idea!)
anyway, the point is this woman was so rude! it's a very hipster type place, I think they just think they can get away with treating their customers badly. And hell yes I tipped her! If I ever want to go back to her (and honestly, she is REALLY good) I'd need to tip! I've heard awful stories about people forgetting to tip their hairdresser and then the next time they go they end up with some horrible haircut!
im 40 years old and i had NO IDEA ladies would pay this kind of money for a haircut.....
i pay $15 for a haircut....
i see plenty of ladies paying $15 for haircuts where i go.......
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
i guess if the hairdresser was THAT rude i would not have tipped her, or maybe tipped her just $1

christ!
she didn't get just a haircut! she got a color job AND a haircut! not *defending* the pricing per se...but sure, that IS pretty standard for the more advanced color techniques - such as foil - and especially in a major city, and a trendy salon.
and are you SURE the women going to your salon are paying $15? if you as a male are paying $15...sounds about right if it's simply a regular salon, but even there...i'd bet the women pay more. we almost always do.
i used to go to a salon with $20 haircuts, it was awesome...and then went out of business. :( i now pay about $40, with tip....still damn good for around here.
this is also why i don't dye my hair. i don't want to spend my time in a salon so much, definitely don't want to spend that kinda $$$...but i know eventually i would b/c i don't like to dye my own hair, salons usually do a WAY better job...and i most definitely would not want to walk around with 'roots' or a bad dye job. thus far, i am letting my grey go...and hoping it grows in nicely, looks good and i like it. so far, so good....but i am only 39. hahaha.
anyhooooooooo....ON TOPIC:
absolutely, completely rude for her to speak to you like that. however, by tipping her, returning there, etc...it perpetuates the behavior. i understand why you said nothing, and even tipped...you love how she does your hair/color...want to return...but yea, it's a shite situation to be in. perhaps, politely, you could comment to her next time you go back? otherwise, yea...ignore it if you think her services make it worth your while...or find another salon. as good as she may be, i am sure there are others.
and those *judging* paying these funds...sheesh, get over it. it's a service, and really...an art. people spend $$$, lots of really good $$$...on all sorts of things. while i am not one for the crazy pricey designer bags and such, i DO also realize they do keep artisans and craftspeople in jobs, stimulate the economy, etc. see it all down the line befoore judging it eh? it's all part of the cycle, of goods/services...keeping people working, etc. if one can afford it and enjoys it...who cares?
yikes...fuck..i forgot i just turned 39! hahahaha.
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
no the "highlights" I get are more like streaks. it's not like a natural looking thing, it's more like edgy thing. I just wanted to do something more fun with my plain brown hair, I had never had ANY color before that (except for a few kool-aid jobs in high school!). I don't like the idea of changing hair color like, trying to make it look better or not liking your own color. I know a lot of people do that, but it's not for me. I got the streaks because I would love to do something like pink or blue, but I can't in my job and stuff, so I just toned the idea down a bit to red. The blond is there to just make the red stand out more. I like to think of it like having colorful ribbons in my hair!
I only go to get anything done like once every 4-5 months usually. I think next time I'm gonna have her just color it back to brown and end it after that for a while. I just felt like looking a little more rock n roll for a while. figured it was less scary than like a tattoo or something .
the problem is too that this is the only really like "funky" place around. as I said, these are more like edgy streaks than like "pretty" hair. I went there for that specific purpose, because everywhere else I went just didn't get the concept I was going for.
well you should be very proud of how righteous you are. you're right. I should probably just shoot myself in the face. I deserve it.
I get that. That is why I added bright red "streaks", as you would say in my hair. You can only see them if my hair moves a certain way or if I pull it back in a pony tail (didn't want to completely freak out the other moms at school) . I wanted electric blue streaks but my hair wouldn't cooperate and my stylist didn't want to completely bleach out and damage parts of my hair, so red it is. I love it.
yeah, and you know what, it's my HAIR. I wanted to get a cool, funky look, and whatever happens, I have to walk around with it on my head! I wasn't going to risk it by going to some shady place.
and yes, $40-$60 is pretty standard for a woman's cut. this place charges $50 for the cut, the color was $130.
I'm definitely not defending it either, I think it's OUTRAGEOUS. especially given that my brother paid $250 recently for a gorgeous tattoo that's going to be on him forever!
