I couldn't look myself in the mirror if I spent that much on a haircut. I'd be very, very ashamed.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
  • she was gonna get paid whether she complained or not during the job....so she figured why not complain, it was obviously making her happy to do so

$180 is 2 years worth of haircuts for me......
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
  • just go somewhere else. even if someone is good at what they do, doesn't give them the right to act like an asshole. that happened to me once, the lady was good but acted like she woke up on teh wrong side of the planet and was huffing about how much hair i had (you'd swear she was working on it for free!). never went back!
  • i want to see pictures of a $180 haircut....

im 40 years old and i had NO IDEA ladies would pay this kind of money for a haircut.....

    i pay $15 for a haircut....
i see plenty of ladies paying $15 for haircuts where i go.......

    christ!
she didn't get just a haircut! she got a color job AND a haircut! not *defending* the pricing per se...but sure, that IS pretty standard for the more advanced color techniques - such as foil - and especially in a major city, and a trendy salon.

and are you SURE the women going to your salon are paying $15? if you as a male are paying $15...sounds about right if it's simply a regular salon, but even there...i'd bet the women pay more. we almost always do.

i used to go to a salon with $20 haircuts, it was awesome...and then went out of business. :( i now pay about $40, with tip....still damn good for around here.

this is also why i don't dye my hair. i don't want to spend my time in a salon so much, definitely don't want to spend that kinda $$$...but i know eventually i would b/c i don't like to dye my own hair, salons usually do a WAY better job...and i most definitely would not want to walk around with 'roots' or a bad dye job. thus far, i am letting my grey go...and hoping it grows in nicely, looks good and i like it. :) so far, so good....but i am only 39. :p hahaha.

    anyhooooooooo....ON TOPIC:
absolutely, completely rude for her to speak to you like that. however, by tipping her, returning there, etc...it perpetuates the behavior. i understand why you said nothing, and even tipped...you love how she does your hair/color...want to return...but yea, it's a shite situation to be in. perhaps, politely, you could comment to her next time you go back? otherwise, yea...ignore it if you think her services make it worth your while...or find another salon. as good as she may be, i am sure there are others.

and those *judging* paying these funds...sheesh, get over it. it's a service, and really...an art. people spend $$$, lots of really good $$$...on all sorts of things. while i am not one for the crazy pricey designer bags and such, i DO also realize they do keep artisans and craftspeople in jobs, stimulate the economy, etc. see it all down the line befoore judging it eh? it's all part of the cycle, of goods/services...keeping people working, etc. if one can afford it and enjoys it...who cares?

    yikes...fuck..i forgot i just turned 39! hahahaha.
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

  • If you don't like her attitude, don't go back. I know that highlights can be expensive and have you considered doing one color all-over? I don't envy women with blond or light colored hair, it seems like a lot of upkeep, thus more $$$.

I love my stylist, I get a trim and color (and recently some funky red highlights in my dark brown/black hair to get me through the winter) ;) every six/eight weeks and I don't pay more than $130 including tip.

no the "highlights" I get are more like streaks. it's not like a natural looking thing, it's more like edgy thing. I just wanted to do something more fun with my plain brown hair, I had never had ANY color before that (except for a few kool-aid jobs in high school!). I don't like the idea of changing hair color like, trying to make it look better or not liking your own color. I know a lot of people do that, but it's not for me. I got the streaks because I would love to do something like pink or blue, but I can't in my job and stuff, so I just toned the idea down a bit to red. The blond is there to just make the red stand out more. I like to think of it like having colorful ribbons in my hair!

I only go to get anything done like once every 4-5 months usually. I think next time I'm gonna have her just color it back to brown and end it after that for a while. I just felt like looking a little more rock n roll for a while. figured it was less scary than like a tattoo or something :).

the problem is too that this is the only really like "funky" place around. as I said, these are more like edgy streaks than like "pretty" hair. I went there for that specific purpose, because everywhere else I went just didn't get the concept I was going for.

well you should be very proud of how righteous you are. you're right. I should probably just shoot myself in the face. I deserve it.

I get that. :) That is why I added bright red "streaks", as you would say in my hair. You can only see them if my hair moves a certain way or if I pull it back in a pony tail (didn't want to completely freak out the other moms at school) :p. I wanted electric blue streaks but my hair wouldn't cooperate and my stylist didn't want to completely bleach out and damage parts of my hair, so red it is. I love it.

yeah, and you know what, it's my HAIR. I wanted to get a cool, funky look, and whatever happens, I have to walk around with it on my head! I wasn't going to risk it by going to some shady place.

and yes, $40-$60 is pretty standard for a woman's cut. this place charges $50 for the cut, the color was $130.

I'm definitely not defending it either, I think it's OUTRAGEOUS. especially given that my brother paid $250 recently for a gorgeous tattoo that's going to be on him forever!

ahhhh i see. well maybe talk to her next time and let her know how it made you feel. if she acts like a bitch about it....i guess it's a matter of what it's worth to you.

yeah the hipsters are intimidating though! :).

but seriously, I went to a wonderful place before, the woman was talented and the pricing was about the same, but my hair always looked boring!

hipsters or squares, money talks :D

if it was me, and she still acts like a dummy, then maybe go to the place you went before adn show her what you want. even if it's something they don't normally do, i'm sure for the right price she'll get funky :)

Haircuts for women are expensive! They are more expensive in the city, but a wash, cut and blowdry costs at least $40. I use natural instincts for the grey!
as for this situation, I wouldn't comment when someone is doing my hair b/c then she could jack it up
but when she was done I would have said something about her comments and no way would I have given her a tip, that's like encouraging bad service.

I used to use natural instincts. I did not believe my friend when she said it dried out her hair. It ended up breaking mine!

but I think that this person who did GTD's hair is stuck up. my younger half sister used to work at a snooty salon and think their doo doo does not stink!

  • I would love to see pics. Not because I'm astonished at the price. (Get over the price, kids. ) Just because it probably looks cool and I want to see it! :D

Highlights are expensive, but I love them so much more than all-over color. I need to get some done again.

Home color kits dry my hair out something awful. I did a few this summer and regretted it... I'm not going to do it ever again.

    !
really? It doesn't do that for me? Hmm. I'm a big fan of it. It's the only non permanent color out there. I had a bad dye experience. Someone was helping me color it red, and dyed it blonde first and then it came out looking like bright orange!

I had to go to a place in the city to make it brown again, and ever since, my hair is darker than it used to be! :(

so if I went lighter I'd have terribly dark roots.
    highlights might be fun though...

that sucks that she was rude to you...i'd be too uncomfortable to go back if i were you!

stylists hate to see me coming....my hair is soooo thick, there's just so much of it. i have to hear about it every time i go to the salon. it takes them about 45 minutes just to blow dry my hair...i hate it! i've had highlights done at a fancy salon...cost me $200 as well. and i tipped extra on account of my hair being down to my waist...it was very time consuming!!

i haven't had my hair colored in a salon in years. i've resorted to doing hair shows. free cut and color, done by the top stylists in the industry. and i get to call myself a "model" ;) you just have to be open to letting them do whatever they want to your hair...i ended up w/ a quasi-mullet a couple years ago
