Well to be honest i'm here as a political asylee or at least trying to be one, the US goverment has been keeping me as a "man with no land", i'm still waiting for the aproval of my case but 5 years later and i'm still waiting, i don't know if the US goverment is going to grant my petition for asylum or not, i can live here and work, but i can't buy a house, i can't keep studying (i'm an architect), because of the cost as a foreigner are to high, plus i can't leave the country and see my FRIENDS (they all leave Venezuela for the same reason) outside the US until they aprove my petition... and i can't wait for an answer anymore, i'm 30 years old, but i' not getting any younger.
Well i thought it's time to move on, i heard so many wonderful things about Canada that i decide to give it a try, and don't need to be a asylee in Canada i can apply for Visa as a Skilled worker in Canada and be a Canadian in 3 years plus i could see my friends and family as soon as i move there.
Any other question?
If you have a trade come to alberta ...........you will do great===

go east, no matter what the westerners say. You can a high paying job on any wharf in nova scotia, the place is clean and the people rock, plus it is not overcrowded and the cost of living is so low its hard to fathom (must be the equalization payments). I feel the west was the place to be 10 years ago but is getting too trendy for its own good, and bc is the la of canada, a lot of flaky pastries0

just kidding beerbaron.
like everyone else said in this thread, it depends on what kind of life style you are looking for.
and we're not a bunch of flakes :rolleyes:live pearl jam is best pearl jam0 -
doin'the-evolution wrote:well i guess the best questions would be what appeals to you most about where you live...
cost of living
job market
weather & environment
culture
etc..
you definitely need to decide what means most to you... there will probably be sacrifices wherever you choose. If you want to live in bc, its beautiful and like equallyworthless said, you can ski and golf in the same day. but hawkshore is right too that its SUPER expensive on the west coast especially downtown. it's expensive to live in calgary as well but its easy to get a good job. then again, you'd have to cheer for the calgary flames - and who wants to do that?
there's a lot of things to consider for sure...
Well my priorities are:
have 2 kids
a house
a couple o real friends in Canada
the chance to see Pearl Jam a lot of times
I nice job, i don't need to be millionarie but a job good enough to take care of my family.
I'm very Thankful for all the comments, i feel they're all truth and well intentioned.

Thanks!
well raising a family is good anywheere in canada i'd assume...
houses are expensive in the west but if you don't want a mansion or millionaire style property parts of bc are still somewhat reasonable i assume (never had to buy a house myself)
i'll be your friend if you move to vancouver! hahaha
we're close to seattle and pearl jam generally play vancouver every 2-3 years, but the west coast is spread out and therefore its easier to see 3 or 4 shows at once in a denser area like toronto/new york/boston/detroit
i'm not sure how it is for jobs to do with architecture in bc. i'm going to SFU right now and thinking about architectural design though! i know that there is a lot of development here (a lot has to do with the olympics in 2010)live pearl jam is best pearl jam0 -

I'm from Ottawa and I love it. I hear it's a great place to raise kids...one of the safest cities in Canada. Growing up I thought it was boring and complained a lot, but a city is what you make of it, and there are tons of things to do here. No excuse not to be active, tons of parkways, bike paths, etc. You also have beautiful hills and thousands of lakes at your disposal on the Quebec side. Culturally diverse. The job market is also very good, I've never had a problem getting a job. It's a government town so that's where the boring side comes in, but it's steady work.
Speaking as someone who goes to a lot of shows, we get our fair share of bands who come through here, but I'm 2 hours from Montreal which is an amazing city in itself, and 5 hours of Toronto so I can't complain.
Summers are pretty decent here, mostly hot and humid, but if you don't like winter then go out west cause the winters here will change you.
Your close enough to some major cities for PJ tours. There's Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Albany within a 6 hour drive, and the rest is up to you.
Good luck0 -
