hey what about the oldest city in Canada, Quebec City ?
I cant believe people said that Montreal is the nicest city in Canada. People who said that never come to Quebec for sure. IF you want a taste of Europe come in Quebec City !
Check this beautiful picture of one of the most beautiful place in the world
The ramparts surrounding Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec) are the only remaining fortified city walls in the Americas north of Mexico, and were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 as the "Historic District of Old Quebec".[3] It is also one of the oldest cities in North America (founded in 1608)
Definitely one of the most beautiful places I've been. It's a little too far away from the style of living I want right now, and that wind coming off the St. Lawrence can be brutal. I love going there though, such a great place.
i would recommend you wait until Oct 14th when the federal election is and see which ridings (electoral districts if you will) elect Conservative MP's (members of parliament) and move top one of them as they will be the beneficiaries of major government money/subsidies that will make life easier for its residents...

yeah, it will be awesome for people who don't make use of any social programs
Halifax is a way nicer city than Vancouver, what else for architecture do you mean on the slpadash west coast?? Also, no where else in Canada do people take such care and pride in there homes, however small. Drive rural and you see endless immaculatley maintained often quie interesting houses. Not a lot of subdivisions either, which practically is van. Maritimers have hundreds of years of designing behind them, and basic class in homesteads foreign all over ontario and interior bc. Alberta im not even touching.
haven't been to vancouver, so i can't judge. when i make my trip to seattle in may '09, will try to take the ferry to vancouver. will try to plan with friends for the trip up for sure!
my uncle lives in alberta. up in fordmimurphy (sorry, if i spelled that wrong). mostly everybody from the east coast are heading west to go to alberta and work. the stories i'm hearing from this place, i don't like at all. it's cold right where they are, lots of prostituation etc.. i would rather head south and stay in calgary or edmonton. again, haven't been there so i can't make comments.
which part of halifax now are ya talking about? each day i'm working in a new subdivisions here. in the bedford basin i work alot at royale hemlock & the ravines estates. in dartmouth, it's portland estates. sometimes out to glen harbour & white hills. i work on new homes & it's growing here. i'm pretty much set for life in the job/contractors/business/hands on field i'm in. just gotta stay healthy. it might be tough work, but money is excellent and i'm alway's out & about. it's flexable and great. i'm trying to take over the business. might down the road higher more workers. should be great.
what i have plans down the road is build a house, and have a room with mosaic tiles in the way's of the new pearl jam logo. need a huge tracer for the floor. after that, won't be hard to lay it down on the floor. will install it right in my kids room or right in the front entry. (i'm just thinking, and no, i don't have kids yet, can't wait though). just need to find the one!
haha, its true that vancouver's got some pretty lame buildings.
i was talking about job market anyways, you said he could work on the dock... unless you mean house boat designing.......
right, in bc we don't have immaculate houses, we live in shacks. but the cost of energy for our grow-ops just takes up too much time and money!
anyways, as i've said many times already, i'd love to go to the maritimes and i think its amazing there from waht i've seen and heard. i know the people are nice, thats what i said. but like i also said...and once again everyone else has said, the entire country has different elements that make it unique...
we go outdoor - so few people no body ever knows.
Halifax is sprawling, more than to my taste and there is a lot of building work, plsu the downtown was built really attractively historically and from about 60- 2000. Im out of there for now casue it is starting to sprawl. I prefer Iqaluit.

Seattle and Vancouver are both on the Mainland - you'd take a ferry to Victoria, which is on Vancouver Island. Vancouver is 3 hours north of Seattle, 6 hours north of Portland (driving) or 2.5 hours to San Fran if you fly. Lots of easy to get to Pearl Jam shows...
I've been to Toronto a few times and Quebec City once, and most places between...and while they certainly have their charm, they don't have an ocean or as nice scenery as BC....
True, Vancouver isn't the centre of the universe, but it's got its redeeming qualities. Less rain than seattle, nearby mountains to hike, bike, and ski, beaches to tan on, parks galore, and the ocean for boating, kayaking, surfing...oh and a REALLY mild climate. No harsh winters in southern BC.
haha those pics of quebec city are one tiny part of the central part of quebec city surrounding the citadel, tell them what it is like on the other side of the river, oh and don't forget how rude the people are if you're french isn't perfect.

Hey man...did you ever came here to say that ? I mean, My english is bad, and just the other day i went to Ontario. I went to Mcdonals and i orders a Coffee. I told the guy, Big Coffee please , because i didnt know that the right way to tell it was Large coffee. the guy just laught at me and tell me he didnt understand what i mean. Stupid people are everywhere so dont tell me that people here are racist or something like that.
Lived in somerset building on south park, really like that part of town down to point pleasant and up to spring garden down to the water front. I knew the town planners (at least a few big shots among them) who were repsonsible for the face of the city in the alst thirty years, i thought they organized the place really nicely, plus scattered in the north end there are a lot of parks and such, some which really giave off the air of having been built inthe tasteful days of yore, like a lot of n.s.
plus building jobs seemed easy to acquire, and who can argue with the rent? At least compared to west caost and t.o.

The only problem with BC is the sure quantities of junkies. Otherwise it is pretty much perfect. I'm aware that most cities have their drug problems but the quantity and visibility of junkies in BC is overwheming. I'm sure that it will be a bit better in the near future with the government wanting to clean them up in time (ie sweep them under the rug) for the 2010 Games but last time I was there it was disgusting.

Yeah i have been there and i didnt say that the people there are "rasict" so dont get your panties in a bunch and please dont put words in my mouth and dont judge the rest of canada based on one loser who ius probably bitter because he is stuck working at McD's for the rest of his life. Its Ignorant.

For sure there's a lot drug issues in our major centres...one of the probs of being near a main seaport...however, a lot of these "junkies" are from all the other parts of Canada because of our mild climate. Why freeze to death in Thunder Bay during the winter when you can just get damp in BC? I would say that 90% of the consults I type at work (Addictions and Mental Health) are from Ontario...
However, there are other parts of Vancouver or Victoria (or even Kelowna and Kamloops) that do not experience the junkie problem. Did you happen to visit East Hastings and Main? Vancouver's Skid Row is quite world renowned for the high numbers of poor folk. I used to work there too...skid row...

I pretty much only go to BC to work so I don't have time to seek out slums when I am there. It just seems that whatever place I am at has an abnormally high number of junkies hanging around when I go out to eat or have a beer at night. I last worked in Campbell River and it was ridiculous there.
Last time I worked in Vancouver, people were joking about the number of ambulance sirens we would hear this one day because welfare cheques came out and the ODs shoot through the roof on welfare cheque day. Sure enough -- sirens all day long.
Interesting that the addiction problem in BC is 90% Ontarians. No wonder we don't see too many around here (although I'm sure that we don't see them because of our harsh winters).

i wouldn't speak for calgary being all of alberta, and i certainly wouldnt speak for toronto being all of canada, why say because vancouver has a bad drug problem that the rest of the province does as well?

I know a few of the big shot's too! My family and relatives here are all in the constuction business for many, many year's here. Which i'm taking that route of taking over the family business someday. My cousin is moving in to the new Spice Towers that up the street of the Casino. So close to where he works. Where I live, i'm close to Burnside. Where my setting materials are all at. I'm only a few minutes away from everything where I live. It's just .. I wish the music & enterainment business here picked up. Which I love alot. Being a ceramic tile installer .. I just love art & it's work.
Hey Arq, if you're still reading this thread, don't mind the childish name calling nonsense between the French and English, It's just something you have to live with if you move to this country. It's like the sound of traffic, very annoying, but you eventually get used to it and you don't hear it anymore. I feel lucky that i'm bilingual. Variety is the spice of life.
Keep us updated on your move, I know a lot of cool PJ fans in the Toronto area.
I added Canada to list of countries I wanna move to last night. No idea why (s'pose, easier to get a visa there than in the States). I know nothing about the place though.
