I never got that trade at all to the Indians...but he ended up in pinstripes and helped us win a World Series

    He had a sweet swing

BTW I also never got how he drove Halle Berry away...talk about being a moron

I don't see any way the Sox can move Manny because they simply won't be able to find a deal that would give them a comparable return. I would hate to see him go, but I also don't see any way they will pick up his option and pay him 20 mil next year. Like Manny said he is tired of them and they are tired of him. Its time to sever the relationship.

With or without him though, I dont see the Sox making a run at the title this year....I wouldn't even be surprised if they don't make the playoffs at all. Not that I think Texiera put the Angels over the top at all, but I think they are te team to look out for in October. The Sox just ain't got it in '08
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all

If they think they can win it all(which they should they won last year) they should keep him

Its tough to get a good return for him cause of the situation($20 mil options, his antics, possibly not wanting to play when he's really not hurt, his AGE)

Braves would have been better off with the picks methinks.

with tracy yes with kotchman no. Tex is the king of empty RBI's and considering the people they've left on base he should have well over 100 rbi's already. If you need him to get a hit good luck unless of course it's July - September, he really dosen't play before that.

When you consider they weren't going to pay Tex and their answer at 1st base is Scott Thorman. It's as good as they could have received now thought they should have traded him either before the season or a month ago when they knew this was over. Now the Braves have no clean up hitter whatsoever. They could put McCann there but he can't catch every freaking game.

Basically the braves are back to 1988 or 89. They have virtually 0 lineup with one or two good players and a hell of a lot of scrubs and busts occupying space. At least kotchman is cheap young and really not all that much of a drop off in average than Tex.

Chipper Jones was well over 400 for a long part of this year. his OBP was incredible he also had Escobar in front of him quite a bit as well. Yeah 78 RBI's but he's probably left almost 100 out there on base. I think he's hitting like 237 on the road.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

They can't and won't win it this year with or without him is my opinion. My bet is they will end up having to let him walk away. In the end, neither side will be satisfied because Manny won't get nearly what he believes himself to be worth because of his age and the Sox will be left without one of the greatest hitters ever....not to mention not being able to put him and Papi back-to-back in the lineup anymore. Of course, the Sox may be satisfied just to be rid of the headaches he causes

I hated to see Justice get traded away. But basically, it wound up being partly about the Braves not thinking Justice would regain his form after that bad shoulder injury. Part of it was also to help clear room for Andruw Jones and free up some money for the future.

    Nice post.

First and foremost i'm not a braves fan so i'm not being a homer by defending them.

The trade the braves did was teh best they could do. NO one was giving up a top pitching prospect for Tex. they did a good job in getting a cheap 1bman who is MLB ready.

Tex is a Scott Boras client and he has been saying it all year he is testing the free agent market. you don't give up top talent for a two month rental. no team was going to do that.

the braves did what they had to do. It sucks for them but they were not going to sign tex to the 20 mil or actually the 23mil that he is going to be asking for a year. That is 20% of their payroll allowed by the spirit group. They can't sink that kind of money in one guy. So they know they are not resigning him so get what you can. Cotchman is a good funemental ball player who will play well with the braves and be a stop gap while they are rebuilding. Because make no mistake they are rebuilding.

The real sad news will come today if Timmy is headed for Tommy John surgery. If that is the case the braves are in an even worse situation.

oh and by the way the BEST site on the net for up to the minute trade news is:

Except that Andruw was blocked by Lofton. Jones was a centerfielder, and Justice played left and right.

That was just a dumb trade. I used to watch all of those guys play in Richmond. justice was my favorite of all time. Until he went to the Yankees. I'll never forgive him, traded or not.

In his first full year, Jones platooned in right field with Michael Tucker. Marquis Grissom for Kenny Lofton was a part of the Justice trade and that was because Grissom had just signed a long-term contract whereas Lofton would become a free agent after one year with the Braves. Lofton played center, while Andruw learned how to play in the big leagues. After that one year, the Braves gave center to Andruw.
  • Buster Olney and peter gammons are saying that Bostin is very close to sending Manny to Florida of all teams. Hermida or Willingham and young pitching in return.

I can't wait to see if boston deals manny to the marilins hermida or willingham then flips them to the pirates for Bay.

i also read that the white sox are interested in huston street ( i guess as a set up man) but they have nothing oakland wants so they are looking to get a third team involved.

I bet a ton of trades go down before 4pm today. I love this time of year!

Sox sending Nick Masset and Danny Richar to the Reds.

Gotta think this is opening the door for a deal with the A's...
