Buster Olney and peter gammons are saying that Bostin is very close to sending Manny to Florida of all teams. Hermida or Willingham and young pitching in return.
I can't wait to see if boston deals manny to the marilins hermida or willingham then flips them to the pirates for Bay.
i also read that the white sox are interested in huston street ( i guess as a set up man) but they have nothing oakland wants so they are looking to get a third team involved.
I bet a ton of trades go down before 4pm today. I love this time of year!

Sounds like the Blue jays are interested in bay, thinking they can make a run if Boston trades Manny. What an incredible OF that would be if/when Wells comes back. Rios/Bay/Wells
didn't the jays gm come out a couple days ago and say he is off the market?
I thought i read that.
he did indeed say that, but JP's credibility is zero, so who knows.
the rumours are that the Jays are trying to buy out the opt-out clause for an addition 2-3 million per year on top of his annual salary in year 4 and 5 of his deal (2009 & 2010) because of the recent issues with the starting rotation, namely McGowan having to have rotator cuff surgery and Litsch being sent down to work on some of his pitches and get his confidence back

I would like the Jays to try to get either Bay, Dunn or Manny
This team definitly needs a home run threat.
Did you know that the Jays were the last major leauge team to have one of their hitters hit double-digit figures (10) in home runs, done at the end of July.
That is truly awful

yeah, what happened to Alex Rios. I expected a monster year for him, and he's got 8 HR's
Man the Sox are getting trashed in this Manny deal. Jason Bay's numbers with RISP are atrocious. Plus, the dude has never been in a pressure situation in his entire career. Now he's being tossed to the lions in Boston as a replacement for Manny. Choke!

well, I hate to buy into this theory, but Rios has not had the power that he exhibited before he went into the 2007 All-Star HR Derby since he did that. He did look tired at the end of the last season but this year is a complete mystery
Too his credit, and maybe to Cito Gaston's credit, he has hit for more power since Gaston has been the manager, and one thing Gaston has done is keep him in the same batting spot in the order (#3) hitter, so maybe that has something to do with his better numbers post-Gibbons firing. Though mostly it has been doubles, which may be a good sign.
One thing that drove myself and most Jays fans nuts is Gibbons strange desire to always have a different line-up, it was loony sometimes, and this may have fucked with Rios' mind and approach at the plate, depending on what he thought Gibbons wanted out of him based on the different place he put him in the line-up
Nonetheless, I feel that this was an abberation and he might be heading down a more consistent path with Cito.

interesting. i didn't know he was in the derby. hamilton will be interesting to watch the rest of this year. he hasn't showed any signs of an impact yet, and it didn't affect Ryan Howard a few years ago, though it did affect (at least on paper) david Wright a few years ago. he went into the derby with 20 HR's, and finished with 26
2 hours to go....wonder which teams will try to make something happen in crunch time
as a fan of a team who is all but done, I can't wait until September 1 to expand the rosters to 40...I want to see what some of the kids in AA and AAA can do....
latest word is that The Manny deal is dead. This could just be the haggling over prospects. From jayson Stark at espn:
Yet another official with one of these three teams says the Manny-Bay deal is dead. In the aftermath, the teams involved seem unsure of what happened. The Pirates are blaming the Marlins. The Marlins are blaming the Pirates. And the Red Sox aren't too happy with either of them.

Yeah, he made it to the final round in San Fransisco against Vlad Guerrero. It was pretty sweet to see, but then the power has seemed to slip away, like it was early in his career. But I try not to buy into his theory because I don't believe it.

what's the feeling down there? I think they would have better off with the 2 draft picks
mixed review really
I think it all depends on the perception of Kotchman. I know he's not a star, but I think he's a solid 1B and solid hitter. Definitely better than what we had before Tex, plus he's got some years left on the contract and is expected to continue to improve. I think there's upside with him. I'm not expecting anything from the minor league pitcher involved in the trade. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he doesn't ever make it to the bigs. I wish we could have gotten a better pitching prospect.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that the only thing more iffy than a prospect or player with potential is a draft pick. You know Kotchman will be in the bigs, but there's no guarantee for any draft picks.
Some rumors I've been hearing from other fans are that relief pitchers Will Ohman and Mike Gonzalez are on the block. It would be nice if we could get some good prospects for those two if they are dealt.

both lefty right? There's always demand for lefties. Gonzalez could bring back something solid, if teams are confident he'll stay healthy

Nothing better than Pearl Jam and Baseball.

Gotta think this is opening the door for a deal with the A's...

I think that with as good as Ohman has been this year, he'd bring back the better offers.
