exactly.
sure...there are *experts* out there with a fantastic wealth of knowledge on certain topics....there are people who can sympathise, be supportive...offer insight/advice....but sometimes...you just want to hear from someone who's *been there* as well. not saying it's 'better'.....just different.I agree definitely but it's how people put others down simply for giving their advice. ALL advice should be welcome IMO... and sometimes support is just as important.
The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
Chicago 07? And love
What a different life

of course it does!
i don't think i have EVEr uttered the phrase 'what would you know?' here. have i thought it at times? sure. however, i think too one should consider WHAT the INTENT of the thread starter is. IS the person actually ASKING for advice, or merely venting...or specifically looking for some to identify a SHAREd experience...such as giving birth to a child, dealing with alcoholism, getting divorced, etc. again...tis NOT to say other opinions are not valid.....just that WHAT is it the person is looking for? oftentimes...it's not advice at all. and sure again...all CAN participate, that's not even the point.
i agree that is VERY dismissive language to use. i think it happens often out of frustration. personally, here, i find it easy enough to simply ignore b/c we're reading/typing...but sure, in person, if some single 20 year old seemingly lectured me on how i should conduct my life and marriage...you bet i'd say wtf do you know about it?Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow0 -
My favorite lazy way of debating is ignoring any point that the opposing viewpoint has made and instead flinging a personal insult.
It always makes me happy when someone either says something about how big my j.lo-sized butt must be, or about the fact that I live in New Jersey (where I have lived for 15 months...lol.)

Once said outsider shuts up, generalised American guy will then proceed to pick out the smallest detail about American life and complain about it to another American, and make good points about these micro-topics that an outsider probably won't even grasp. And it's all fair game so long as it's not an outsider making the criticism.
Well, I think it is kind of similar to dealing with family:
I can complaining about my mom and how I don't like how she does x, y, z, but the minute someone else badmouths my mama, stand back!0 -

NO MEXICAN FOOD??? I would die! Well maybe I would just cook my own.
I never had Mexican food in Dublin, but in Limerick, it was REALLY bad. I lived in Prague as well and although the "Mexican" food was good, it wasn't really "Mexican" food if you know what I mean!0 -
i'm too lazy to read thru this thread. suffice it to say most people shouldn't even be allowed within a 5 mile radius of a keyboard sometimes.0

lol..that sure sounds familiarThese cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0
