how do you figure? To me it just seems like the way we were SUPPOSED to live. You said you work what 10.5 hours a day? In the wild, you'd maybe do 4 or 5 HARD work though... but imagine how rewarding it would be to make everything from scratch from natural materials... to deal with nature all the time. Civilisation can just be a little monotonous at times.

Besides you don't have nothing... at the risk of sounding cheesy... you have everything :)

yea but i go home to a comfy apt. with a bed and a shower and food and water and ......

i dont roast chipmunks on a fire and sleep on the floor

if you have nothing that dosent make you a bum.

i'm starting to wonder if you dislike the PJ songs about these things like Parchutes ;)

    "And I won't need

    Nothing else
    Cause when we're dead
    We would've had it all"

well i'm really enjoying this thread but need to go be with my kids and if any of you have watched the ed, sean penn interview with charlie rose, one of the things they say is about this subject making ppl talk and debete sp? and glad to see we have it here.

yes it does make u a bum and i dont mean a city bum

a bum in the sense that u have nothing and no one

if stickboy has been inspired by into the wild........i would think that all this talk about him is taking away from his journey.

If you do it properly you don't sleep on the floor :)

some people even build their own log cabins... there's plenty of comfy stuff you can find in nature.

and don't underestimate roasted chipmunks :)

And yeh, I suppose when ya think of it... do ya ever just go for a walk in the countryside on your own, with nothing but your thoughts and the trees and birds and all that shit? It really does help you to find some clarity. Now imagine you need a bit more than just a walk to clear your head?

    they're not?

don't get me wrong I too like my creature comforts, hence the reason I'm still here... and I'm FAR too lazy to do something like this but I've a great deal of respect for those who just drop everything and change their lives, whatever kinda change it may be.

No offense to stickboy, I wish him the best of luck, but he wanted to find himself there is really no need to undertake such a dangerous adventure. Pack up your car and take a drive cross country, go camping out in some of the great national parks we have in this country. Spend sometime alone but with the menas of providing for yourself. Pulling a McCandles is absolutely unnecessary. I respect the fact that Stickboy is doing what his heart desires but you have to take along some common sense as well.

cycling on roads by yourself......scares the shit out me know, that is why i only bike in our city park. there are far too many dumbasses behind the wheel.

cycling on the road with a group of others......that is safe.

i do bring supplies and plan accordingly....i have nothing to prove. i only do it cause it is a hobby.

i try to survive from skills i have learned....the supplies are my insurance policy. :)

I went "Into The Wild" by hiking in the Smokey Mountains to a waterfall last week. A 3 mile hike total. That's as "into the wild" as my black ass wants to go.

First off, Eli is one of my favorite PJ fans I have ever met! He is a blast to hang out with, always happy, and always FULL of energy, also Eli would give you the shirt off his back, even if you already were wearing 3 and it was negative 20 degrees... Eli is one hell of a guy...
He needed a change in his life so he decided to pack up his guitar bag with what he could carry, get on a mountain bike, and ride... I was pretty worried about him a few weeks ago, he had a lot of shitty things happening, wouldn't go into any details, but I could tell he was REALLY hurting!
Eli, I wish you the best of luck, if you make it to WI I have several great friends and a brother that would help you on your journey, I even have a good job I could hook you up with in Wisconsin, if you find it is too cold to continue on. He has my address in Colorado, Wu-Tang is playing down the road tonight, I was hoping he would come knocking on my door sometime this afternoon!
Last time we talked, I told him if he bikes all the way to Colorado, I know a little deli that Chris McCandles' sister owns, I'd buy him A HUGE meal there as soon as he gets in!
Eli, thank you for the very thoughtful Christmas card, I got it on Sat and will keep it on my shelf where I can see it until you return... Be safe, stay warm, and maybe hit up Taco Bell bean burittos instead of McDonalds, that shit will kill you!

    GOOD LUCK ELI!!!!!!!!!!!!
