our very own Stickboy jammer has been so inspired by Chris McCandless and by how his life was not what he had dreamed of, He has jummped on a bike with a few things in a back pack and is cycling North from Miami.

I don't think it's because of the movie... well the movie may have been a push... but some people may already have had this idea in their heads before the book was even written, some people had done it before Chris even.

It's not a ridiculous thing to do if it's what you want to do.

i once put a backpack on and got on my bicycle and headed north....

i was 8 years old and my parents referred to it as "sending me to day camp"...

My friend and I would take our bikes and hook up a wagon. We pretended we were going fishing. Then we were finally old enough to actually go fishing. lol I have no idea where this story is going. Good luck Stickboy.

i remember my cousin John and I would set up a tent in his backyard and "go camping"....hehehehehe .... i dont think we ever made it thru the night without coming inside and sleeping.....hehehehehe

Does it matter whether he had the idea 10 years ago or if the movie instigated him? I'm sure ALOT of people took inpiration from that movie, whether it be the extreme of upping and leaving everything or it just making you tell someone what they mean to you. The fact of the matter is he's done it and we should be wishing him good luck.

Personally the movie gave me alot to think about and changed my outlook on a few things, not as extreme as stickboy, but it certainly made an impact so I sympathise to a degree.

what I do know of him, makes me think he knows his life needs a big change and this type of thing has always appealed and the film just gave him the confedence to make a move which is the big brave thing, making a radical change to your life. its much easyer to carry on going to work and doing the norm.
many many ppl do the gap year/travell around the world for a few months thing now. this was and for some is away of finding themselives. leaving behind the contempory comfortable living , stripping down to the basics and seeing who we are without the distractions of modern life. along with this comes the emotional baggage stuff we lie to ourselvies over and theres no running away from it your demons jump right in your face untill you have faced them and left them behind. the end result a carm and balanced soul ready to cope with sociatys demands.

what Eli is doing may seem irrational and chaotic but its deffinatly curragious and i wish him the best on this amazing life addventure.

i think it's good he watched the movie, and only now is going to do something like this. at least he won't repeat the same mistake and is going to be aware of the dangers.

did he leave his job??? quit??? take a leave of absense????? did he have a job????

what about family???? did he just pick up and leave???? or is his family aware of what he is up to????

what is he looking for???? new career??? new life???? or is he just going to wander ??????

some of that I can answer in guesses

his job, nothing special or worth sticking with
family, sister has her own life parents live in Greece. I dout they know what he is doing I think a few friends only do.


"what is he looking for?" hummmm my guess is himself, i feel along the way its is very easy to loose ourselives. sounded like he was getting by and not too happy , maybe happieness is also what he is in search of.

i only ask cos if you do then it did take much reading between the lines to know he was very unhappy in life, it takes more then a holiday to fix it.

i hear what u say about following the move, but dont think its like that, the way i see it, he has nothing, in with bad ppl in miami no family to really turn to back in NY things are to hard so why not just hit the rd and try to make a new life.
