hey leafs!! i would be very happy with a 91!
if i'm playing my own ball, i'm well over 100+... but the tournament on Saturday was a scramble, so i didn't have to play my own ball. My game was kind of bizzaro. My drives, which are normally really good, were crap. But my short game was much better than usual...
i sunk a really nice putt to get a birdie for my team. overall, our team ended up -1.

hey ceg, thanks so much.
sorry to complain in the thread here, but i was really going crazy last night. my ear is ringing on one side now... 0 -
Digression from the thread, but ...
Have you gone to the doctor yet, Mookie?
If not, then I hope so ... I can't afford the plane to Halifax, nor am I at all qualified to extract teeth.
Feel better soon dude!!0 -

thanks for the offer, releash. i'll take anyone with a pair of needle nose plyers at this point. i went ot the doctor when it initially broke two years ago and there's nothing they could do (in terms of social assistance paying for the repair...as i have no dental insurance) on the train ride home from our weekend in montreal it actually cracked more, and pretty much in half.
so i went to the doctor then and eventually i was able to get the red tape through the doctor and social assistance to get it extracted so i wouldn't have to pay.
that meant a referral to oral surgery on june 9th for a consult! only a consult! so i have called them every couple of days trying to get them to move my date up, but the woman handling my booking only felt it was necessary to call me back once and send me a letter with the dates and times of my consult highlighted in pink. everyone i've spoken to on the phone has been nice and said every time..."it sounds bad. i'm sure she'll move your date up for you." , but no luck.
anyway, i'm sour. if it was a broken bone, i could get it looked at right away, but because it's a tooth i have to suffer with it broken for two years until it can be declared an emergency...i wish i did have a friend who was a dentist! then again, i probably would have strangled that friend for being in dentistry by this point!
the MMA shows are the only thing getting me through. watching them over and over reminds me that i'm probably not in as much pain...:D0 -

Report: Hermes Franca likely to return in August
MMAjunkie.com
Jun 02, 2008
Former UFC lightweight contender Hermes Franca (18-6 mma, 5-3 UFC) has agreed to return from his 12-month suspension for a failed drug test in August at UFC 87, where he's expected to meet Frankie Edgar (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC).
Our friend Mike Chiappetta from NBCSports.com reports that a source close to the event has confirmed both fighters accepted the bout.
UFC 87 takes place Aug. 9 at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
After closing out the 2005 fight season with three consecutive losses, Franca was one of the feel-good stories of 2006. He won eight consecutive fights -- all via stoppage -- and earned an invitation back into the UFC. The performance earned him a title shot against then-champ Sean Sherk at UFC 73.
Like Sherk, though, Franca failed a drug test administered by the California State Athletic Commission after his failed bid at the title. Unlike Sherk, Franca admitted using the steroid drostanolone. Despite coming clean, the CSAC upheld his fine and full one-year suspension.
Franca is eligible return from the suspension on July 7.
As MMAjunkie.com reported last week, Edgar recently confirmed his involvement with UFC 87, which features a main event between UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and top contender Jon Fitch. His opponent wasn't known at the time.

some interesting follow up after the elite xc show on the weekend. personally, i didn't think there was any controversy about the young vs. carano stoppage, but i guess many people thought it should have continued. i agreed that the smith stoppage was ridiculous the way it was handled with the five minutes to recover confusion...it sounds like his vision took some time to come back, but he still should have had the five minutes...anyway, moot point i guess, as it sounds like he wouldn't have been able to continue.
5 Oz. Exclusive: Dr. Sherry Wulkan comments on Kaitlin Young and Scott Smith stoppages
June 02, 2008
by Sam Caplan
After reading our interview with New Jersey Athletic Control Board legal counsel Nick Lembo, Dr. Sherry Wulkan contacted the NJACB with additional comments via e-mail. The NJACB forwarded that e-mail to us with permission to publish it.
I am making that e-mail available here, but I wanted to add that 5 Oz. of Pain contacted both Kaitlin Young and Scott Smith to get their sides of the story. Young declined to comment on the record at this time while Smith was unavailable for comment.
Here is Wulkan’s e-mail:
“When we saw Kaitlin in the cage, we were concerned about an orbital fracture. Both she and her corner were grateful that the fight was stopped and actually thanked us for stopping the fight. When she first returned to the dressing room, she said she wasn’t sure why the fight was stopped, but after looking in the mirror, she was glad we did. That is almost a quote verbatim. She said she was overwhelmed and that Carano definitely got the better of her on this occasion. I don’t read the blogs [Editor’s Note: Dr. Wulkan is referring to an alleged post by Kaitlin Young on FighterGirls.com, however, the post has yet to be verified as actually being authored by Young herself], but perhaps she was not well reviewed and this prompted the response you forwarded.
“We did not stop the fight because it looked ugly or because she was a woman, but because she had taken some major abuse, and because we were afraid she had a fracture. The risks of orbital fractures are well known to ringside physicians.
“Her response seems more like a vendetta for not being invited to the interviews . It’s a shame, because she presented herself very professionally both before and after the fight on fight night.
“As a follow up, Drago [editor’s note: Pete Sell] told me that Smith said he still was seeing double and triple 15-20 minutes after returning to the locker room. His corner was grateful we made the call we did. I want to know who told the press we didn’t pick up the foot injury at the time it happened. That’s just not precise reporting. I’m glad you cleared that up. I think it’s amazing that Smith himself, although initially disappointed, currently has no problem with the decision; he knows we’re professional and we have both their short term and long term interests at heart. At no time did we hear a complaint from Smith’s corner, so why are the blogs so insistent that an injustice was served? Besides, the rematch will prove to be a war, especially with two healthy fighters.”

just found this great shot from the opposite angle when gina attempted the gogoplata after kaitlin took her down. if i'd seen this angle on television, i would have been going silly!
anyway, you can see in the photo that kaitlin's left arm isn't straight and to the mat like it should be to truly secure the submission. it was still a tough spot and the shin was across the throat, so kudos to kaitlin for escaping.
lots of other really good photos in the photo album for this fight here too, but this is the gogoplata attempt...

That's a great shot. That was such a good match, along with the lawler/smith match. What a fucking joke the Kimbo/Thompson match was. Every single step forward that the UFC has made to bring MMA into the spot light as a legitimate sport was set back by Elite XC and the Kimbo match.

Tito Ortiz
Tuesday, June 3rd - 6:00pm
Mixed Martial Artist and former UFC Champion Tito Ortiz will be at Bookends on June 3rd at 6pm to sign: This Is Going To Hurt!
I'm leaving in a few hours to go see the Huntington Beach Badboy, I'm pumped. I think I'm gonna ask him who will beat Machida? I also wanna ask what organization he is going to.0 -
Here is me and my new best friend Tito Ortiz at "Bookends" in Ridgewood, NJ.
I was the fourth person in line- got right in quick to chat with the former UFC Champ. He told me he will be fighting again in October, but couldn't say where yet. Keep your eyes and ears open for his return.
PS- Got his auto on his new book as well as on a Punishment Athletics shirt. Nice!
Here are a few photos of me and Tito. Hope the link works.

seriously though, my jaw is starting to get stiff and my ear is starting to get very painful too. driving me crazy!
...to calm down though, i just saw this post-fight press conference clip of gina from last night. it sounds like a "letting the pressure go" moment as she re-iterates her passion for the sport and why she loves it. no doubt it was a relief for her after all the negativity this last while leading up to the fight. she seemed pretty emotional, and praised kaitlin as well...

that sucks man, hope you get it all fixed up soon. My sister works at a dentist office, she could get you in if you come up to newmarket
watched the interview and i can't believe gina was that good on only 3 weeks of training. definatly a "letting the pressure go" moment for her"I'll ride the wave where it takes me"

I was up at mill run, it's further northeast from burlington, up in uxbridge. I'm further north, so i usually play courses around here.
oh, and i would have kept the card lol, Clark is my favourite leaf ever. He led the team for my childhood pretty much, actually, i think 91 was the year he became captain wasn't it?

that is a great shot, thanks for posting mookie, i didn't even realize it was that close.
I agree that the Kimbo/Thompson match was a joke but it did expose Kimbo and i'm happy about that. I don't think the show set back mma, there were some good fights on the card, and a couple great fights on the card. The stoppages were not that good, but every causual fan that i talk to thought it was a good night of fights so i think they succeeded to a degree. Could it have been better? definatly, hell the next night there was a better card on. But did it set them back, i don't think so.
I agree, this weekend will be alot better

You are probably right that it didn't hurt the sport and it probably did bring in some more casual fans. I'm just not a huge fan of Kimbo and the way EliteXC is hyping him up."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

I said Tito who will beat Machida's ass. He smiled and said whoever can catch him, since all he does is run!! I told him I was going nuts when he applied the triangle and he said thanks for the suport. It turned out to be a great day, nice people in line and I got to meet my favorite fighter.0 -
