just watched the davis/swick fight and it was pretty good... i agree with the decision even with the deduction and the last 10seconds were insane... I don't think i've even seen that from the ground position before. Both fighters throwing everything they had till the very end. Great sportsmanship from both fighters"I'll ride the wave where it takes me"

i passed out while watching the show so i can't comment on much more... just wanted to say that i want to see Kampman/Bisping. I think that would be a great fight and test for both fighters. Has bisping faced a guy like kampman, he's got i think 5 subs (chokes) in his last 7 fights. Bisping will probably get leban next but i wonder who kampman will get, he's only lost 2 fights and is undefeated in the ufc."I'll ride the wave where it takes me"

They did say something about him rolling his ankle and that caused him to not make weight, but really it's a matter of respect and fighters should make the weight that they are contracted to fight at. Still a damn good fighter though and i'm not going to route against him because of it. He just better make weight next time!
I agree, it's always fun talking to you guys. I look forward to it every time i come online lol.
Ok I don't by Thiago's excuse for not making weight. I've heard of fighters training with far worse than a sprained ankle and STILL making weight. Maybe if he had stayed the hell out of the clubs and off the booze while training, his weight wouldn't be an issue in the first place!!!
I'm sure the dude owns a sauna...he coulda loaded on the clothes and gotten in there and lost 4 pounds...so fuck him.
That said...I dunno that the extra 4 pounds made a difference in the outcome of the fight. Matt Hughes just didn't ever look into the fight. Not saying he wasn't ready or focused...just saying Thiago was the better fighter last night...period.
I'm still looking forward to Hughes/Serra. I hope Matt didn't injure his knee too badly last night and can fight again this year.
I'm dying to see him beat the shit out of that prick Serra."Rock and roll is something that can't be quantified, sometimes it's not even something you hear, but FEEL!" - Bob Lefsetz0 -
since lbc is too shy to discuss his championship...:D
looks like ceg really did build a room in the basement(i joke, i joke!) and shamrock's twin has maybe filed for free agency?! haha

leafs4ever wrote:well this stoppage i can somewhat understand but under the circumstances... well when you see it, let me know what you think cause i think it should have continued.
edit: ok i just watched the fight again and i'm still upset about the stoppage. Shots were being landed but in no way was the fighter in danger. He was defending himself and doing the best he could in that position. I say horrible stoppage at the time it was stopped... maybe if it was halfway through the round or something, but not then. This ref has alot of explaining for his efforts over these past 2 weeks. Amazing respect from both fighters after the fight, love seeing that when something like this happens.
yeah, my friend and i were watching it and it was one of those ones that looked "iffy" at first glance, we thought. watching the replay, it did look like a pretty bad stoppage.
if you look at his work last weekend, he let an inexperienced kimbo stay in a crucifix position and take repeated elbows and strikes from james thompson for well over a minute. this weekened, he stops the fight with a more experienced fighter defending himself and only a short amount of time left in the round. mind you, fabricio landed a couple of big blows, and james thompson wasn't getting those kind of blows in on kimbo...but it just seems like a very inconsistent way to call your fights.
bad job on this one. i would have liked to have seen that one continue. it was shaping up to be a good one, and as you said, great display by both guys at the end.0 -

we all must agree, dammit! haha
he did look huge for the fight. biggest i've ever seen him like the announcers were saying. hughes also looked a lot smaller than he has in the past. looks like he's getting smaller with each fight.
i can totally understand people losing some respect for him or giving him criticism, but i was just surprised once again by the level of hatred the "fans" can get to sometimes. the way it seems like they turn their back on someone so quickly is crazy! i'm just disappointed in him that he didn't make it.
you're right, he has to make weight next time, and watch his size in between fights. it's a matter of respect, indeed. hughes is the one who really had the right to be upset most, of course, but he probabaly had to be thinking in the back of his mind somewhere about being the kid fighting in england for the first time for his first title defense and missing weight for his initial weigh-in. maybe he remembered the pressure he must have felt. fortunately for him he was able to cut the amount he was over (only 1 or 2 lbs. i think) in time for the title fight to still go on. it still seems strange as to why thiago's camp didn't take the hour to attempt to lose the three pounds, unless he'd already drained himself as much as he could.
it is likely thiago will have to face another opponent before a title shot because of this. i was actually hoping marcus davis would win so that it would set up a convenient davis vs. alves rematch for the winner of fitch and st-pierre.0 -
leafs4ever wrote:just about to watch the leites/marquart fight and thales is coming out to one of my favourite songs ever... gotta love bob
edit: i disagree with the decision on this fight. I saw it as a draw with possibly a win for marquart (round 2 maybe 10-8??? the only thing that keeps me away from this is the last 10-15 seconds). Anyways it was a great fight, i agreed with joe that the 2nd point taken away was the wrong call but what can you do. That piledriver (also illegal i believe) at the end was sick.
I really don't think this loss will set marquart back at all though in the eyes of the ufc. He clearly won the fight (without the deductions)
this one was crazy, eh? i had no idea what was going to happen with that decision. i think a case could be made for a DQ after the illegal knee in the second. leites was all over the road when he got up and i'm really shocked that he was able to continue and make it to the end of the fight. nate put quite a hurting on him on the ground. both guys had hurt each other on the feet pretty badly as well.
the second "foul" was uncalled for, i agree. i've heard a lot more warnings for a lot less...and that looked like a clean elbow to me!
as far as the piledriver goes...DQ #2!!! i couldn't believe that! yeah, not a setback really when you lose a fight like that to someone like thales, but watch the fouls nate!!
...i still can't believe he did that...!?!?0 -

that's a great matchup i hadn't thought of! i'd always thought kampmann was too small to fight at MW, but it looks like he has bulked up a bit and he was the stronger guy on saturday night against rivera. both guys are looking impressive right now. i'd like to see it!
you're right, though, it's probably leben vs. bisping next. maybe they will do the franklin vs. kampmann match that was supposed to headline the belfast show?...not sure that fight makes sense now, though.0 -
been looking for the pre-lims, but haven't seen them yet, mostly to see how the heck kevin burns was able to get roan in a triangle choke!?! apparently roan dominated the first round and the triangle came from out of nowhere in the second. shocking to everyone but releash...who actually called it, i think!
also a great pre-lim that they showed was the wiman vs. tavares match. that was agreat fight. wiman is looking so improved and really looks like he might get himself on a nice little roll of he keeps performing like that. very impressive.
p.s. thiago!
p.s. flying knee!
p.s. playing on repeat at mookie's house...:D0 -
hoping for amir and tim tonight.0

oh, i can not wait for next week!
great episode tonight! i'm a little suprised (or disappointed, maybe?) at the outcome, but i've got a sneaking suspicion that if someone was to behave badly enough to get kicked out of the finals, i think i can guess who that someone might be....
hmmm.... time will tell.~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~0 -
