Yanks will be significantly lower next year as well. Its quite obvious paying like they have the past 5-6 years has done nothing.
I will never be convinced that the 50+ mil that Boston paid to talked to RiceCake Matsusaka does not count towards payroll/contracts. Nobody even came in a close 2nd towards that #. Not saying it wasn't worth it, time will tell, but its significantPJ - 36

The way I look at it, it's twice what the Yanks paid Igawa when they panicked but worth finitely more than that deal.- Busted down the pretext

C'mon, xavier mcdaniel will back me up here, but if you don't think the Yanks overpaying for Igawa when no one else was bidding for him so that big Stein could have his own Japanese pitcher, you're only fooling youself.- Busted down the pretext

he's nothing compared to kevin brown, pavano, giambi, etc etc to name a few. but when you have as much $$$ as the yanks you can afford to take chances like that. its the way MLB is.PJ - 36

I have to agree with that (dynamite name-dropping by the way). Cashman may have more automony than any of the GMs from the 1980s under Steinbrenner but there's no doubt in my mind (obviously I don't have concrete proof), that the "spending money" on Igawa was a retaliation move for the Red Sox getting Matsuzaka that was ordered by Steinbrenner.Reading 2004

I don't think anyone would disagree with that. Nor do I think anyone would not laugh at Igewa and think he was a major waste. But again....the Yanks being the Yanks,...are lucky enough that they can afford to make mistakes like that and take chances like that. It helps that there is no salary cap in MLB of coursePJ - 36

For Moose to get 20 wins he is going to have to win at least 4 out of his last 5 starts.
Giese was activated. Wonder if he will get a start. Maybe they will just go ahead and rid themselves of Ponson.
AAA Playoffs start tomorrow. Scranton and Pawtucket meet in the opening round. I think the games will be free to watch online at MiLB.tvBrian0 -

Everybody's forgetting the Red Sox offered Pavano more money. Sometimes it all comes down to luck. I would bet Dice-K would be a bust if the Yankees won his rights.I miss igotid880

So... Are we go'n to the playoffs?0

Scranton starters in the IL playoffs:
Probable Starting Pitchers s
G1: LH Chase Wright (2-1, 2.41)
G2: RH Ian Kennedy (5-3, 2.35)
G3: LH Kei Igawa (14-6, 3.45)
G4: RH Phil Hughes (1-0, 5.90)
G5: RH Victor Zambrano (0-1, 18.00)
Johny Damon nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award. That's cool. I was not a fan of his before he came to the Yanks. Thought he was a little wacky and wasn't crazy about the signing. He is still vastly overpaid (who on the Yankees isn't?), but I find him one of the most likable players on the team now.
How about that shot by Nady last night!
Moose is now 34th on the career win list and (this is the one that surprised me) 20th on the career strikeout list. He's about to pass Cy Young!Brian0 -
