Phil Hughes gets a rehab start this week in the minors and Jeff Karstens had his first rehab start Sat. since breaking his leg on a line drive.
Also just found this out. The kid Shelley Duncan (.288, 21 HR, 70 RBI) at Scranton is brother to Chris Duncan of the Cards and son of Larussa's ever present pitching coach Dave Duncan.Brian0 -

there have also been a number of teams no more than five games over .500 that have won also. of course, they also have not faced that huge a deficit but it can be done on occasion.9/7/98, 8/3/00, 9/4/00, 4/15/03, 7/1/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 5/24/06, 5/25/06, 6/17/08, 6/22/08, 6/28/08, 6/30/08, 5/17/10, 10/15/13, 10/16/13.0 -

um wrong, baseball reasearch is one of my hobbies. i'm a yankee fan but i have a lot more respect for the game than many fan do in this day and age. note, i'm not saying you're one of those type of fans since i don't know you.Reading 2004

Yanks are going against their usual policy and trying to negotiate a contract extension with A-Rod during the season. If he decides to opt out of his contract, it will be because he wants to play somewhere else. I can't imagine him actually making more money whether he signs elsewhere or with the Yanks.Brian0 -

and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening

a-rod doesn't want an extension. he's as good as gone:

they should try to force him to wave his no-trade clause.0 -

He might not get much more per year, but he could make more total by opting out now and signing a 6 or 7 year deal instead of the 3 years remaining in his current contract. If he waited till his mid 30's to become a FA again, he may not get another 3 or 4 year contract at that salary level.
Of course, there are many other reasons why he may want to opt out besides money. The New York spotlight, possibly wanting to return to SS, the possibility that he has a better chance to win elsewhere(Rivera, Posada, and Clemens are all up there in age and FAs-to-be), ect.
The combination of all these things make it logical to test the FA waters.0 -

i love it. all the a-rod hating that's gone on in this thread, and now everyone is salivating at the possibility of having him on their team."PC Load Letter?! What the fuck does that mean?"
