i think it's good he watched the movie, and only now is going to do something like this. at least he won't repeat the same mistake and is going to be aware of the dangers.

did he leave his job??? quit??? take a leave of absense????? did he have a job????

what about family???? did he just pick up and leave???? or is his family aware of what he is up to????

what is he looking for???? new career??? new life???? or is he just going to wander ??????

some of that I can answer in guesses

his job, nothing special or worth sticking with
family, sister has her own life parents live in Greece. I dout they know what he is doing I think a few friends only do.

"what is he looking for?" hummmm my guess is himself, i feel along the way its is very easy to loose ourselives. sounded like he was getting by and not too happy , maybe happieness is also what he is in search of.

i only ask cos if you do then it did take much reading between the lines to know he was very unhappy in life, it takes more then a holiday to fix it.

well I don't know him personally... never met him, never chatted to him much so I can't speak on his behalf... but is it really that hard to believe that Chris wasn't the first one to come up with the idea? Have you READ the book? It's not an entirely isolated case. People have been leaving civilisation to live in the wild for a long long time. I've read MUCH more interesting books on the topic than into the wild, about people who've done it properly.

I guess there IS an 'us and them' mentality when it comes to this kinda stuff... some people really really get it, whilst others can't see anything good about it at all

Some people don't see the rat race as being appealing... some people often find more comfort from nature than anything a person has to offer... there are different kinds of people in the world who want different stuff. Why make fun of them for actually going for what they want? Just cos it's not what YOU want? Or could you be a little bit jealous?

To move somewhere and start fresh isn't what it's all about! Save money? That's not what it's about either... sometimes it can be about denying yourself of what we people think is important... cos quite often that stuff isn't important at all.

why would you presume he'd be living in the street? Do you think he's going to a town?

not everyone's in a relationship...
some people don't get on with their family...
some people are in a thankless job they dont' give a fuck about and vice versa...
if they're REAL friends they'd understand...
