I don't mean this is a personal attack on your choice of words. It seems to me that the intent of your statement was defamation of a religion. By using the phrase "the muslims" you are catagorizing the group and poisoning the cultural definition of the term. Essentially saying all muslims are like them.

A fellow I work with feels the same way. I've failed at persuading him otherwise. But consider this.

Terrorism has been happening for centuries. Since the dawn of civilization. Only in recent history have Terrorists been typically Arabic. This is also evident in movies of the era. They used to use Russians, Germans and Japanese as international terrorists in movies. All those movies about plane hijackings were probably Cuban. The republican power has shifted our understanding. Causing us to believe there is a centralized network of terrorist masterminds. Something you might see in a movie. But it's not, it's a bunch of small groups with passionate agendas that feel they need to resort to violence and justify it by their obscure interpretation of their religious text. With consideration for the political propaganda resident in their state. The Chinese don't even know what the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 were. A search on google produces no results of the tank man or the protest at all. Three pages of families taking pictures at the square on vacation. We are in the middle of an information war. The internet is our only weapon. Thankfully unfiltered. I consider information not given by a state equally or more important.

I say to myself I'm not going to catagorize people into ethnicity, religion or anything else like that. I think all religion is corrupt, they all have political agendas they justify with faith. But faith doesn't mean anything to an atheist, that's my struggle. I can't live a life without god, because in concept god is all around me and influences me. So, I guess what I mean is. My life is drastically different than yours, our perspectives vastly different and someone who was born in Palestine, Syria, Iran, Lebanon, Israel, etc.. will have a supremely different life and perspective of the world than us. That's why tolerance is important. The pope criticized Canada for allowing abortion and homosexual marriage. Now he criticizes Islam at a critical point in world politics. Right now they are under the microscope and feeling the pressure aswell. This only serves to increase tension. We are reaching a point where I think we might have a world war if people don't relax. The western world is powerful but the eastern world is no slouch either.

Anyway, I'll stop now. Cheers.

If I were a muslim, and many people are. I would be extremely offended by absolutely everything you said in that message. A lot of people would utilize that report button on the forum to notify the moderators of what's been said. I however, feel the need to persuade you in your thinking. To assist you in forming a new perspective that is respectfull to billions of people and only disrespectful to the individuals responsible for those statements. A common error is to make blind sweeping conclusions about specific groups that you know nothing about. Your current statement serves only to cause hatred and invoke war. What you are referring to started in the late 40's I believe, with a guy named Kattup (sp?). He said that western liberalism teaches selfishness and is infecting the world. He also taught that anyone who denies Islam should be put to death. Al-Zawahiri and Osama Bin Laden worked with his group in Afghanistan to push the soviet union out. They were supported by the United States at this time. Afterwards they went back to Egypt if I recall correctly. You will notice during certain periods a bunch of these groups will converge. Like in Lebanon, students from turkey were going to fight Israel, probably groups from all around. This isn't an organized network, they heard about it and went to help out. There is no structure to them. Additionally I think it's important to know the culture and the history of the people. It's not the same for us, or me anyway. I didn't growing up with any threat of invasion or air raid.

Yeah no kidding, not every muslim is crazy and theres a big difference between your friends who live in a developed country and the ones living in the Middle East. Wait til they come knocking on your door blowing up buildings and have the "Kill an American day" like a cleric wanted last week.

Born is their shoes? They are bred to hate all things Western. The irony behind this is that as the leaders/people denounce the west, it was us who invented half the technology and science they use on a daily basis.

As an Aussie it is easy to have the hands clean/my shit does not stink attitude when in fact your government relies on ours to take care of the dirty work.

P.S. That radical Islamic mentality and way of thinking, that dictates that anyone who insults Islam or the Prophet should be killed by the nearest Muslim; is thousands of years old. The variation and approach has been around for a very long time. It's laughable to suggest it only began in the 1940s. Ask any honest, objective, knowledgeble Muslim how long it has been around; and the honest ones will tell you the truth.

P.S. Ahnimus, you don't even know what my perspective is. If you took the time to read what I say, rather than judge and attack what I say based on your biased and unobjective approach to this whole subject matter; you would realize that you're not teaching me anything and that we in fact, agree on 98% of the subject matter. Difference is, I'm willing to hold radical Islam/Muslims responsible and accountable for their dispicable behavior.

You on the other hand, are only willing to hold America and Isreal responsible for their respective parts in this whole thing. For Islam, you make excuses, justifications and you do the dance. Islam/Muslim's responsibility for their own actions, is nothing more than a small sidenote or brief disclaimer, on your way to your standard blame-game of America and Israel.
