everyone can play...but don't wear green0 -
ok..
why do people seem to have the idea this would be a deciding factor for voting for Obama?? OBVIOUSLY, IT ISN'T, but it's surely somethign that makes him look bad and we lose some respect for him for it.
And, NO, IT'S NOT because of the fact that he wont wear a certain color like you all seem to think it is. It's because of the fact that he's trying to distance himself from Islam so much that it's quite disturbing to see (like the Muslim girls who tried to sit in the back or whatever). How can we expect a guy like this to be president when he actually has to color coordinate his clothes so that they can't be associated with ANYTHING muslim??
ridiculous.0 -

since the theme is going green, I'll recycle my earlier post:
I see it as a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of thing...
Let's say he wears a green suit, does the terrorist fist-jab, and bends down to tie his shoe in front of a mosque...I'd be willing to bet that image would be plastered all over the place....
and I'll add...Obama has spent quite a bit of time addressing a fucking flag pin, so his hypersensitivity is no surprise to me...0 -

But to have to do shit like avoiding a color out of no respect for another religion because he's scared of shit like that is completely unethical and ridiculous. And no, I won't accept a response of "well that's politics" because it's not. It's someone playign a ridiculous game that he claims to want to change.and I'll add...Obama has spent quite a bit of time addressing a fucking flag pin, so his hypersensitivity is no surprise to me...0 -

it's got nothing to do with that. it's got to do with the fact that he was meeting with people who were offended by it. and like a good diplomat, he became apprised of local tastes and customs before he went there, so as not to offend anyone.
but you're right, next time he goes to japan, he should tell them to fuck off if he's asked to remove his shoes. in ireland, he should wear orange and praise oliver cromwell, to show he's not biased. if he goes to peace talks with iran, he should take two hookers in miniskirts to show them that he doesn't give a SHIT about respecting anyone else's traditions."You've never been out of college, you don't know what it's like out there. It's no surprise to me either. What is surprising to me is that after everyone is said and done people still have "hope" in him for "change."
there are still billboards around the country advertising that obama is spelled a lot like osama. you're vastly over-estimating the average intelligence of america. he wouldn't appear noble. nobody would even know what the hell he was doing. i didnt know green had anything to do with islam or the middle east or anything else until this thread and im a relatively well informed guy. this is about tact and diplomacy, and it's pretty fucking refreshing to me just to have a candidate who's not walking into foreign countries with a cowboy hat and six-shooter and telling them to open mcdonald's or else we'll invade."You've never been out of college, you don't know what it's like out there. and yeah, going to iran with two hookers is soooo fucking similar to WEARING GREEN in the Middle East.0 -

let me ask, what do you want to hear...? what is the correct response...? what would make you feel better? as I see it, no matter what this guy does or doesn't do, you're mind is made up..._outlaw wrote:It's no surprise to me either. what...? this makes no sense...
I concede, this is hypersensitive at worst...
seriously, folks are upset because he did not want anyone to wear a fucking color...a color....oh, sweet, jesus, a color....help us all...
maybe he should blame corporations for the ills of the world and offer nothing...that will get a bunch of votes....0 -

this has nothing to do with tact and diplomacy. you justify it by saying atleast he's not invading... well then, maybe if he told the muslims to just fuck off, it'd be better than invading them, so he'd be a good president, right??0 -
_outlaw wrote:who is offended by the color green? who is he respecting? he's going to the middle east and he shouldn't wear green, which is the color is Islam, the major religion in the middle east, because he didn't want to offend them? so, if it's not a big deal to wear green, why is it a big deal to not wear green...?0 -

oh, and obama hasn't offered any solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict other than "talks" unlike Nader, but it looks like no matter what he does or doesn't do, your mind is made up already.0 -

_outlaw wrote:it's not about the color. it's about the fact that he's intentionally not wearing green so as not to be even remotely close to ANYTHING islamic, which is unethical, ignorant, and just plain ridiculous.
so you say...I know this may be hard for you...but think about this: maybe some don't see it the same as you....
shocking, I know..._outlaw wrote:But I already said this once, so why would you understand it if I said it again?

_outlaw wrote:clearly, you have no idea what you're even saying. the only reason "no matter what this guy does or doesn't do, you're mind is made up" is because he HASN'T DONE ANYTHING that would make me want to vote for him. If he were to actually do something that is good, I would happily vote for him, but so far, he's shown no signs of bringing ANY change.
hahahaha, I already explained like 2 posts ago that it's not "just about a color".

_outlaw wrote:first of all, the likelihood of a picture like that coming out is like 0.00001% or something. if he wore a green shirt, i highly doubt ANYONE, including even the media, would give a shit. you didn't even know it was the color of islam, so clearly no one would care.

if you didnt know it was the color of islam until now, how do you know it was a big fuck you to them? i dont know shit about this, except that it was included as part of a long list of things to keep in mind when visiting overseas. maybe it was associated with a particular sect over there and they didnt want it to seem like he was playing favorites. maybe it's considered disrespectful for him to pretend to be all buddy-buddy, like a bandwagon baseball fan here in the states. maybe his advisor told him it made him look fat. i don't know what's going on here and by your own admission, neither do you. yet you use this as some harebrained excuse to skewer the man. surely you can dig up more and better dirt on him than the fact that his advisor included a no-green provision with the no mini-skirt/bare arms provision of his "don't piss anyone off in the middle east" advice list?
are there people over there pissed off about it? do you have news reports of outrage among muslims? or is this just you getting your PC panties in a twist becos you think you know how they would react, like the suburban white kid pretending to know the ghetto becos he listened to a tupac album once?"You've never been out of college, you don't know what it's like out there. I have read that middle eastern leaders are puzzled, but, as I've stated before, this isn't anyone's actual problem with Obama. It's a smaller one of many bigger issues. one of his ACTUAL problems is his fear of being associated to anything muslim. this is just an example of that, and I don't know how someone can be president, if he takes such precautions like this to be associated to people who he'd have to deal with for his presidency...
but you're right, whatever, atleast he's there. I was just clearing up the misconception that people here are angry about a color when it's a bigger issue in general.0 -
_outlaw wrote:It's not associated with a particular sect. according to tradition, which is often ignored or just not even thought of in the middle east, green is the color of the religion Islam. clark_kent wrote:this is the point. you say clearly. it is not so clear to anyone else. do you have proof that is the reason for this other than your own conjectures and assumptions? shit, green here would associate him with ireland, not islam.1. it was an analogy. look it up.
2. no, it's not. are you?even if that were the case, i don't blame him given that there are many who truly believe he is a terrorist in disguise because of his name. that is not a joke, i know some of those people. but im just not seeing how this at all indicates he is trying to take some sort of anti-islam stance. he's NOT islamic, what should he be doing? pretending he is and wearing a head wrap just so that he doesn't offend you? mccain is afraid of appeaing too old. all the candidates have strengths and weaknesses they have to account for, even your angelic nader. i just don't understand what you want him to be doing to prove that he's cool with the muslims.0
