I don't think Mexico is doing a very good job of enforcing their immigration laws. From what I understand Mexico has just a severe problem of illigal immigrants crossing into their country as we do."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0

No. The US should start cracking down on businesses who hire illegal immigrants. But, that will never happen because undocumented labor is crucial to our economy. Plus, everybody loves to blame the mexicans for our problems, so we just keep looking the other way.0

I thought I had heard it was the other way. The southern Mexican boarder was heavily guarded by Mexico's army to keep immigrants.0

You are correct. Mexico's southern border is militarized and the penalties for violating its immigration laws makes our laws look like parking citations.
But, the fact remains that Mexico still has huge immigration problems. That's why militarization of the border is fairy-tale fantasy.0

How do the people get through then? What is the percentage of people who try who don't make it because of the Army presence? You might not know, but just curious.0

Let me just put it this way. A few years ago my brother's social security number was stolen by three different people. According to the IRS agent I spoke with, the names of those people were hispanic, and each person was collecting income in the southwestern states, which were arizona, california, and nevada.
His social security number was used strictly for purposes of employment, so one can only assume that the perpetrators were illegal immigrants.
At first, I wanted to find these guys and give them a piece of my mind. I was begging the IRS agent for their addresses, which the IRS did have. Of course, they wouldn't give those addresses to me.
For weeks I called the IRS over and over to see if there was any way I could get those addresses. My brother and I were prepared to drive all over the southwestern united states to make sure that these illegal immigrants in particular understood what an inconvenience it was for us to have to deal with that situation.
But, everything worked out OK for my brother. His credit was straightened out (as no illegal debt had been incurred), and the IRS was surprisingly quick in straightening out the tax issues. My brother got his tax refund that year with no problems.
So, the anger subsided, and I was left with some time to really think about the situation with a clear mind. And that's when it dawned on me: The people who are really responsible for this bullshit are the POS business owners who hired these guys.
It's not that hard at all to verify social security numbers. I guarantee these businesses didn't even bother trying. These illegal immigrants just want 3 meals a day and potable water. These businesses want a few extra percentage points added to their profit margin. It's sickening. Why does our society focus so much on the illegal immigrants and not the slave owners who sponsor their illegal activities? I'm sure there are lots of reasons.0

No, I do not know. But, when I think about it, I think of how in spite of the fact that a huge wall separated e. and w. germany for a number of decades, people were still able to sneak across. People are capable of doing anything when they put their minds to it.0

Our parking citations are more severe than our immigration laws.0

Mexico has a problem with a lot of Hondurans, El Salvadorians, Guatamalens, and Nicaraguans illegally crossing into Mexico. They don't go to Mexico to stay there but to try to pass into our country. Mexico has militarized it's southern border but it hasn't been as effective as the Mexican government had hoped it would be."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0

interesting. I believe the american military would have a better effect on our border as mexico's does in the south.mammasan wrote:Mexico has a problem with a lot of Hondurans, El Salvadorians, Guatamalens, and Nicaraguans illegally crossing into Mexico. Then again, Mexico's southern border is 757 miles across. Our southern border is 1963 miles across.0

and therin lies the answer to why nothing has been done.
Democrats love illegals because they feel they have lots of new fresh low income people they can pander too and get votes.
Republicans love illegals because their campaign contributions come from large corporations (and smaller business owners too) who benifit tremendously from illegal labor.
Cracking down hard on businesses who hire illegal immigrants would be a good start, but I don't see it happening because of the above reasons.
It's not that they don't see the issue or understand it or probably even know how to fix it, each of the major political parties is trying to decide how it will effect thier ability to retain power.
It's a lot like the drug war really, it dosen't matter that it's wasteful and ineffective, it helps people stay in power. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0
