That's the first thing I thought of. I have pretty bad athsma and carry an inhaler at all times. The inhaler is liquid. Pills are one thing, but I could see a liquid being VERY scruitinized. I'll have to make sure I can have that on me before I fly...I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.0 -
I am at the airport in Portland, ME right now. carry-ons allowed...actually same as usual except they are being ultra thorough with screenings and are not allowing any liquids of any nature on the planes.
...and we expected this airport to be ultra sensitive since this is where one of the 911 terrorists flew through this airport the morning of the attacks.0 -
These are the rules for now, just in from our travel department:
*In the UK*
Following this morning's police action, security at all UK airports has been increased and additional security measures have been put in place for all flights.
With immediate effect, the following arrangements apply to all passengers starting their journey at a UK airport and to those transferring between flights at a UK airport:
All cabin baggage must be processed as hold baggage and carried in the hold of aircraft departing UK airports.
Passengers may take through the airport security search point, in a single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag, only the following items. Nothing may be carried in pockets:
• Pocket-size wallets and pocket-size purses plus contents such as money, credit cards, id cards, etc. (not handbags)
• Travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets)
• Prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (e.g., diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic
• Glasses and sunglasses, without cases
• Contact lens holders, without bottles of solution
• For those traveling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight
• Female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed
• Tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs
• Keys (but no electrical key fobs).
All passengers must be hand searched, and their footwear and all the items they are carrying must be X-ray screened.
Wheelchairs and walking aids must be X-ray screened, and only airport-provided wheelchairs may pass through the screening point.
In addition to the above, all passengers boarding flights to the U.S. and all the items they are carrying, including those acquired after the central screening point, must be subjected to secondary search at the boarding gate.
Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger.
There are no changes to current hold baggage security measures.
*In the U.S.*
In addition, we want to advise travelers that due to heightened security in the U.S., airport officials are currently advising passengers to allow an additional 2 or 3 hours to their normal arrival at the airport, carry as few items in their carry-on as possible and do not attempt to bring liquids as carry-on items."Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630 -
So the mother must drink her breast milk?0

If she doesn't want to drink it, she should keep it in her breast. If it's in a bottle, someone has to drink it.Rockin'InCanada wrote:So the mother must drink her breast milk?"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630 -
The problem with this bullshit that supposedly went down today is that dubya will cite The Patriot Act as a success and people will believe him because they're scared and stupid. Fear allows people to act irrationally and not even realize it. I'm to the point where my first inclination is to assume something like today's "terrorists foiled" headline was staged to rally support against the war on terrorism.Spartancus wrote:Can you believe some cowards are suggesting this?

Banning all carry-ons is absurd. Unless the airlines can pony up better food, drinks, snacks, baby formula, diapers, wipes, and some decent form of entertainment besides the air travel shopping guides and crappy tv shows, then this isn't going to happen. Of course, if it did happen and the airlines made those provisions accessible to us, we'd pay for it out the nose, and air travel would take a "nose dive" and the air travel industry would further suffer financially.0 -
wow, dictatorship supporter are we?? I was talking about the US in general. Security cameras EVERYWHERE, the Patriot Act, and now this. ALL of these things are taking away rights that we have had. And it doesnt matter if it is written. Actually, you have no right TO BREATH; where is THAT written that you have a right to breath? So anything can be said as "not written." We have had these "rights" for sometime now, and they are slowly going awayonelongsong wrote:just wondering; what rights? where is it written that you have a right to carry on luggage? where is it written you have a right to fly on an airline? driving a car isn't even a right.
if you want to play in their yard you have to follow their rules. if you don't like it; take the bus.

it's sad that the actions of a handfull of people, can affect millions of travelers, and airport employees0

Prescription meds with the passenger's name on it (all meds, not just insulin and such) are allowed. Put them in clear plastic bags to make things easier.
At the moment all liquids and gels (folks this includes your water, toothpaste, shampoo, perfume, lip gloss, mouthwash, contact solution, eye drops, your $6 cup of Starbucks, etc) MUST go in checked baggage and not in your carry on. That pretty much means your toiletry bag.
You check it or you lose it.
Figure it out, folks. It may be a pain in the ass but it's right now's reality.
that´s fine but in some ways this is ....................0 -

AGAIN what rights are you talking about? what is done in public has always been ok to film. we call it freedom. if security cameras increase my safety; put them everywhere.
next you'll be saying that seat belt laws deprive you of your right to be thrown from a vehicle.
PLEASE; what rights are you talking about?0 -

I'm for it... less time to frisk the sonsabitches.
Solution... travel with less. You don't have to bring your whole closet when you travel. You can stash the crap in your carry on in the room vacated by the 3 extra pair of shoes and the 4 jackets and sweaters you've packed. And do you really need to take that Gameboy and DVD player on vacation?
Travel light... if you need it... buy that sweatshirt you were going to buy, anyway and wear it.
...
And you know what I did on my 3 week vacation in Europe? I packed my dirty laundry in a box and shipped it back to my house so I'd have more room in my little suitcase for shit I bought over there. I also had the store ship some of my purchases to my home... my neighbor was picking up the mail... no big deal.
This is what we get for 6 decades of treating the Arabs like third class 'Stupid towel head, camel jockey, sand coons'... I'm not justifying blowing up planes and shit, but this is the bed our grandparents and parents have made for us and we have to learn how to sleep in it. Welcome to Israel's world... have a nice flight.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

if someone wants to get a bomb on board bad enough they will think of a way to do it.
banning carry ons, liquids and electronic equipment for more than a day or so plays into the fears the fuckheads want us to have.....and means they have won a small battle even if the plane wasnt blown up.
agreed.
much of it i think of it as a 'band-aid' maneuver, to make it look like 'something' is being done, when in reality....you canNOT fully protect, no matter what.Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow0 -
...this to me is indeed bad news.
If I can't take a bottle of water with me on a plain anymore, I can't fly anymore. ...
o.k., o.k., I might be a bit weird, but I need a lot to drink and I need it when I need it... so no water instantly to get means no way!
...this whole security thing makes life more difficult I think...
..and impossible for me to fly (without hand laguage... no book, no music, no Spiegel, no tissues and cream, no water!!!!!! - means: not to make!)
It seems we loose all coolness.there is no way to peace, peace is the way!
...the world is come undone, I like to change it everyday but change don't come at once, it's a wave, building before it breaks.0 -
hippiemom wrote:Screw it ... if that's the way it's going to be, I won't fly. Ban all carry-ons? Are they insane? Have you ever had your luggage take a trip that you weren't on, and not get it back for three days? I have, and I don't even fly that often. I always take a change of clothes and whatever personal items I need to get me through one day in case my luggage doesn't materialize. Some people need medications, special foods, baby formula, there's a huge list. And just for simple convenience sake, who in their right mind would get on a six-hour flight without a book, a laptop, an iPod, something to keep themselves amused? The clouds are only fun to look at for a few minutes.
There are places I'd like to fly to, but if it means being treated like a common criminal and forced to spend 6-10 hours on a plane doing nothing but reading the in-flight catalog, then the hell with it.
Figures ... just when I get over my fear of flying, they make flying intolerable.
They need to quit wasting time treating obvious "non-terrorists" like possible criminals, and begin racial profiling. Its not like its THAT hard to judge that book by its cover. Why go home
