    The truth is, Kerry did not in any way say the troops had stupidly gotten themselves stuck in Iraq. What he meant was that the BUSH ADMINISTRATION had not educated themselves on the situation in the Middle East, which is how they got stuck in Iraq, as he puts it. Of course, they are not in Iraq - if they ever set foot in Iraq, they never travel beyond the safety of the Green Zone. Kerry says the troops are stuck in Iraq because of Bush's stupidity, not theirs. I think it goes beyond stupidity, but this is not about my opinion, it's about clarifying John Kerry's.

    I'd hate to think that Bush might continue to distort what Kerry said and possibly swing the pendulum away from the Democrats this election, however marginal the change the Dems might bring.

    um many people do see it as a great career and wonderful opportunity. are you trying to ask people on this board if they do? and then give a childish response like, well if its so great, why dont you sign up.

    but many people do it for much more then a career. you probably dont understand that.

    no need to get defensive...I was just curious...I see that right is upset over these comments, which I find odd, because I would think the "pull yourself up by your bootstap" thinkers would support Kerry's comments...

    and yes, I was curious if those who upset see the Military as a great opportunity...and if you do, then why was that great opportunity pursued...that's all...

    as for the understanding of Military Career choice...I'm curious, where to you get your understanding...?

    After reading Kerry's comments...I don;t reallyt care. I already have more than enough reasons to not like him, I don't need this one.

    Personally, I believe he was talking about Bush AND the troops. Bush being dumb got us in Iraq. And he was trying to spout off the old liberal goto statement about the poor, uneducated people being forced to go.

    But really, who gives a crap?

    Makes me wonder who will run for the Dems next election...they've run 2 robots in a row, will it be a trifecta?

    the fact that it could be taken out of context so easily and applied to the troops fighting in the area is proof that he never should have said it. if the prepared text said what they're saying it says...is kerry now admitting that he can't read? the fact is that bush didn't do his homework...he didn't extend himself in the area of the iraq situation...and, now, the u.s. military and the coslition of the willing are stuck in a deadly quagmire

    I think becoming an engineer is a great career path too but I never pursued that. I wasn't really good at the things that were needed to pursue it.

    Doesn't anyone remember the haughty comment by Kerry during the October '04 debate where he said words to the effect that looking around the room only three people here will get the >$200K tax cuts ? Probably not, but this is the first thing that came to my mind when he said that.

    It also makes his stated intentions for the remark yesterday hard to believe. Kerry's a snot, and looks down on Americans.

    Also, remember folks - there is no draft. So somewhere between the not doing well in school and ending up in Iraq for whatever reason, someone had to make a decision to join. So he poo-poos those Americans who decided to join.

    If Kerry was a conservative...he already would have been stripped of any of his power in teh Senate..ala Trent Lott.

    Comments taken out of context can kill a politicians career, and that is sad. Because I want politicians to be able to say EXACTLY what they tink at all times. Then I know where they stand instead of them being too PC and never showing their true thoughts.

    I'm fairly sure Kenny Olav wasn't out there defending Trent. ;)
