Obama, a true Narcissist.

I'm beginning to take this thread serious...have I missed the turning point?

I was just asking, because just like the word narcicist, depressed is used in its lighter meaning every day...
and I thought the content of the threat made it obvious that it was all said "tongue-in-cheek"...now I'm puzzled that you were actually serious about what you said...looked more like a practical joke to me or something...

Some people took some of the comments here seriously. It's up to the individual on what perspective they take.

The word narcissist may be used everyday referring to not-truly-ill behaviour. And other times it's used in referring to psychological narcissistic behaviour.

I'm personally not comfortable with people minimizing the effect of psychiatric disorders in any way, although it's commonly done.

Just to derail this thread with a tangent,
when i was in highschool (and still pretty damn obsessed with Jane's Addiction) i had a teacher that i really admired. I was in his social studies, philosophy, comparative religion, AND psychology classes.

One day we were going over personality disorders, and i approached him after class. I told him, there was this band i really liked, and the lead singer was definitely some sort of SPD case. I explained some of his (perry) behaviors, and my teacher was like "do you have any of it on tape? can you bring it in?" ... you could see he was pretty excited about connecting over this.

I brought in my copy of "Soul Kiss" for him, and I played a couple of parts. The "mountain song" performance, along with a few of the clips of Perry talking to the camera. Oh, and especially the part where perry is in his underwear in the bedroom with Casey Nicolli and he is trying to light bottle rockets in the house, there is a rooster in the living room, and casey is telling him "not in the house perry, not in the house." and he just goes and lights the damn thing anyway. lol.

My teachers face lit up, and he looked at me exasperated (he REALLY loved his job. lol) ... he said, "THAT is Narcissitic Personality Disorder!" ...

i said, "do you really think he has that, or do you think he is just a ham?"

He said he was pretty sure.


I dunno.
I always just remembered that exchange.
It was cute.

well, if you were serious...then that's very noble...

and now you can take my comment serious:
the exact same applies for depression...that's why I jokingly brought it up to illustrate that you'd be busy all day to give the (psychological) definition of (sometimes serious) words that are obviously refered to in a totally absurd (=non serious) context like here...
dunno if I have to really love myself to see it that way...gosh...

It's not the same thing in my mind at all.

I don't expect you to get my perspective, or that of others here that you oppose. I doesn't make them any less valid.

I read/hear that a lot...

I understand your perspective...and it's important to clarify words...but if you were serious, this means you thought I was really serious...which is a thing you really had to try in the context of this thread...and I think that's what you have to do to understand words...see them in a context...

it's like going to the sauna (dressed) bringing a book and pointing out the moral hazards of displaying yourself in the nude to others to the people who are enjoying themselves there...

I saw the context alright which is why I said something. It sounds like it is you who doesn't get my own context. For me that's okay, since my case stands.
