"as MOST people I interact w/ hate him for various reasons"

yet, he won the election by an overwhelming margin. maybe you need a more diverse group of friends.
LMAO! He got 51% of the vote! Is that what passes for "an overwhelming margin" these days?

  • Ok, I've never really bashed Bush, but I do have my reasons to dislike him. My reasons of dislike are DEFINITELY NOT due to the War. While of course I support the country, the prez, and our troops during these crazy times, I'm not sure whether I support the cause of the war or not. I'm kind of one of those people who goes crazy (lol) listening to both sides of the fence. It's tough making decisions when you agree & disagree w/ points on both sides. Hard to know who and what to believe. The reasons I dislike bush have more to do with his policies and how he views many issues and tackles them.

And we are not sure if Bush really won fair or square...popular vote did go to Gore, and there were some funky things going on w/ those elections - foul play? Who knows - maybe so, maybe not....no one but those who are "in" only know for sure.

this country is nothing like it used to be from what ive studied in history and have talked to Vets over the years...im glad im 27 and grew up in the time i did, if i was a teen now i would almost be embarassed by the ignorance of the new generation

I am 15. I know a lot more than most of my peers about this, but I definitley do not like the president. I don't buy into the whole supporting the president during times of war. Does that mean he gets a free pass? I don't think so.

You're very astute for 15. Kudos.
  • I voted for Bush both times, and both times I felt he was the less of the 2 evils. Do I stand by my decision now...God I don't know. But I will say that I am ashamed of it now sort of. I don't think our country would make it through another 4 years with Bush. I am scared of what can happen until the next election. So I was a Bush supporter, but now I am an anybody but him supporter.

I have decided that what ever Pearl Jam tells me to do, then that is it. They seem to know just as much or more than all the news people combined. (Okay, so maybe not following PJ blindly, but I am interested in what their position will be for the next election.)

  • Reminding people of the past is probably not a good strategy for the Democrats.
    ^ ^

I agree with this on so many levels, but why i say he won't win is because a lot of people started to hate him after the 2000 election (maybe this was SNL's fault :p ). It'd certainly be interesting to see if he still carried the same sway with the popular vote.

Who really cares anyway? It's just going to split along party lines

i take their position into consideration because their politics vs my own seem to be on the same page.

It kind of feels like asking a friend what they think.

I'm w/ you on that. :) Its funny that this is coming around full circle...my thoughts on this topic I mean...because I was 14 years old when I started to listen to pj(I'm now 29), and if it weren't for their music, and political influence, I honestly have no idea how I'd feel about certain issues(tho I have a feeling I wouldn't be too far off from my views now)...tho I wonder...perhaps if I was listening to different music at that time, I'd have the political views of THAT band....but regardless, as a teen, I didn't care about Politics and Pro-Choice issues till I started listening to PJ and listening to what EV would say...and in all honestly, now that I am older and have a better understanding of these issues, I'm glad I did listen to him, because to this day, I still agree w/ most of his views. Thanks eddie for the politcal influences! :)

We're in a "War on Terror" right now. We've been told that it's a new kind of war with a new kind of enemy that could take years, if not decades, to win. Does that mean I have to fully support every lying nutsack who occupies the Oval Office for the next 20 years?? Crap. I'd better start getting drunk now.

You're endorsing blind, unquestioning loyalty while also accusing the "new generation" of being ignorant???

so what is so wrong with this "new type of war" that could take a long time to fight....if you look back we have been fighting this war for years, EXCEPT the enemy has gotten stonger and smarter and because of thinking similar to yours and the people in the Clinton administration we have ignored them and look what happened on 9/11....feel free to sit in the freedom of your home and complain about the president turn a blind eye and watch 3000 more innocent men and women die...at least he took a stand, something this country outside of the military and this President would not do....Clinton ignored this country and turned a blind eye and if you think Gore and Hilary wont do the same thing then i fear for this country...

as far as the new generation (not all of them) i wish they would think more like keeprockin....but if you listen to radio or watch tv and when they interview someone of the new generation on the street and ask them anything remotley involved with politics they have no idea but when it comes to what song is number 1 on MTV they will spout it off with no problem..thats just the facts

nah man, remember, they got the new Diebold machines installed and now Jeb has Florida in his pocket. moot anyway.

To be honest, I can't tell the difference between a republican and a democrat anymore.
  • i'm ready for a change in this country. i like bush, but we don't need one side ruling everything for so long. but gore would have no shot at winning an election. so they will probably nominate him.
I think that Hillary and Gore would be interesting.

  • I'd like to see him run, as long as if he didn't get the nomination, he stepped aside.

I think he would add a lot to the debate for the democratic ticket.

    Biden
    Clinton
    Gore
    Sharpten

if they stayed away from getting personal, and kept to debating the future of America, it would be very healthy for us.

You know its funny that they still haven't given a concrete answer to liking Bush except he has the balls to go to war-basically. I have an MA in History and Political Science and from my expertise I would say that this quote is so far off from the truth and shallow and I don't even know what else. This is ludicrous! Our civil liberties have been taken away-our young men are slowly dying off in a war for money-we have been lied too. At least back in the days there was enough political ideology so that at least we thought there was a cause. Today we have been openly lied to time and time again, we live in fear, people around the world hate us, etc., etc., etc. My mind is just boggled that after the suspicious elections, 9/11, the War on "Terror", The invasion of IRAQ, Hurricane Katrina, the Illegal Wire Tapping, etc., etc., etc.,there are still people who think this way. I have Republican beliefs, Democratic Beliefs, Communist beliefs....a little of everything. To me what is important is humanity, freedom, true democracy, and what I see from this administration makes me truly sad for our country. I will respect the administration as long as it is in office because he is our President, but you better believe I will exercise my first amendment right to voice my opinion about my dissatisfaction with their policies.

I'll feel free to complain about the president, definitely. I'm constantly surprised at people who give Bush so much credit for bombing Afghanistan after September 11th. Big wow, let's give him a cookie or something. Who wouldn't have bombed Afghanistan at that point? Fucking Nader would have bombed them. So yes, I'll give Bush credit for that. In one instance, Bush did exactly what was expected of him. Congratulations, Mr. President. Then, he decided to Liberate the People of Iraq of their Weapons of Mass Destruction so they would Greet Us as Liberators, Form a Unity Government and Stand Up so we can Stand Down. That was 3 years ago. According to the most recent reports, an average of 100 Iraqis are slaughtered every day, mostly civilians. Being decisive and daring to stand up for something doesn't mean too much if you make an almost complete hash out of it.

Last night on The Daily Show, Jon Oliver had a great line concerning Bush and his leadership skills. "President Bush reminded us that he's the man to lead us post-whatever catastrophe he leads us into next."
"Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."

Great, so if he wins the Democratic nomination does this mean another Republican will win? I really dont like Bush, but Al seems to be in compitition with Bush in the "Who can look like more of an idiot behind a podium?" contest.

Seriously, the Dems better get their act together and kick Gore, Ted Kennedy, Howard Dean, and John Kerry out of the party. Those guys are messing it all up and letting the Republicans win everything.

Al Gore still has gotten more votes than any President in US history.
