All that original pic is , is the extremes of the curve.
If "normal" can be defined as within 2 or 3 standad deviations from the mean, both those kids clearly lie beyond that at either end, but sadly, you actually must have those extremes for the whole system to exist. It is inescapable !! To pretend otherwise is to try to re-define the Universe. (Fuck, I sound like ahnimus now)
It's also true that any individual's worst enemy is another member of it's own species. Nothing else competes quite as precisely for the resources you need and have access to.
Nah.
We've got the starving kid, and the obese kid, both victims...
BOTH VICTIMS.

You've gone off on a tangent I don't really care to follow, but at least acknowledge that capitalism is not Mother Nature.

I argue that capitalism and liberty are not the same thing, yet it seems there is a belief in this world today that they are the same thing.
I asked a question pages ago and it hasn't been answered.

I'll engage this discussion as far as I have, but when these are the underlying simplistic assumptions...again...we're on different planets and there's nothing to discuss.
as far as the plight of Africa, a good book is William Easterly's "The Elusive Quest for Growth." Really interesting, and if you don't trust me, it was required reading from a liberal professor...it really is worth the read.

the obese kid is the farthest thing from a victim. personal responsibility, or the lack thereof, should belong to everyone. failing to exercise that responsibility does not equate to victimhood. And you ask me what I want this year

totally disagree.
The obese kid eats what the parent puts in front of him/her.
We're not talking about an adult... the pic clearly shows a child. A child that young can't go to the store and buy his/her own food, or prepare a meal.
that kid (and he might have some sort of thyroid issue..) is a victim.0 -

i think if things happen b/c of the choices of a corrupt government then not only does blame belong to them but to anyone who helps, supports, ARMS....them, as well.
i'm saying ppl can't complain it's b/c their government is corrupt when we're fucking arming the corrupt goverhment in the first place!standin above the crowd

Children are innocent. I think you can at least acknowledge that.

I know lots of kids that will not eat everything put in front of them...

I'm not really on a tangent. I am still directly discussing the original pic and the implication that strvation in Africa is caused by the capitalist welath of the US which permits obesity in a child.
I'm gonna side with you, in that both kids are victims. In response to the poster who said, tehy are not because of "personal responsibility", that does not kick in until adulthood. Both of these children are being failed by parenting and social systems which should be supportign their safe development.Music is not a competetion.0 -

the answer lies in this entire thread
for instance, my reply to you about coca-cola...i could put a picture of an american kid in a water park next to a pic of a kid in india(?) where coke privatizes their water....why do they do that? are ppl honestly saying coca-cola privatizing water has nothing to do w/ capitalism??standin above the crowd

if i drop a sack of coke in front of a former addict do i have any blame if he uses? if i bring a case of beer and put it in front of a recovering alcoholic do i have any blame if they 'fall off the wagon'? while i didn't force them to ingest the substances i am to blame
plus children do not fully have the capaicty to make wise decisions and use reason as well as an adult does.
if i gave heroin to a child can i tell the cops 'well, i didn't force him to use it!'standin above the crowd

Yeah I agree to a certain extent...but I'm not sure wolfing down ungodly amounts of food to your own pleaser is "innocent." at what point do ppl (El Kabong 2007) take responsibility for themselves? And you ask me what I want this year

just because a McDonalds is on every corner... that doesn't mean that I have to eat there!!!
and a little FYI...corruption happens in every political party. Dem, Rep, Ind, Green or other...it doesn't matter and that will never change. Never in a google years.0 -

In the first paragraph, no you are not to blame, ultimately the indvidual makes a choice.
Second paragraph, obviously children need guidence...but when adults are so narcissistic, and children are an afterthought, we are left in a situation where they need to grow up faster. to the point at hand, i don't think stuffing your face until you pass out assumes the notion of victimhood. i don't know if that's necessarily a wise decision...it seems like common sense, and if adults are too self absorbed to not tell their children no, then the kids need to wake up on their own.And you ask me what I want this year

I think I need to get up to speed here. Are you saying that Coca-Cola corp owns the water supplies in India and sells it to the population ?? Is that true ??
If it is true, I would say it has to do with corruption and not with capitalism.Music is not a competetion.0
