    And the fact that Israel kills more people doesn't "justify" the deaths Palestinians cause. Even though this whole discussion can be had in the other thread, my point is just that the reason Palestinians are using violence is because the Israelis force them to.

    Common sense is very valuable when used properly. Your example of 3 midgets is poor since the topic is about profiling ethnic groups. So maybe you'd like to tell us what race or religion these midgets were. Maybe you'd like to tell us what the midgets were dressed like or whether they had beards, or didn't it matter because a midget is a midget so lets round them all up.

    BREAKING NEWS, yes, racial profiling has been ongoing forever, however, this takes it to whole a new level.

    DOJ is authorizing the FBI to use the rules and laws that is suppose to cover foreign terrorists against American citizens. DOJ authorization of such use of the laws governing terrorists in this fashion is nothing more than a form of mccarthism.

    they don't have to eavesdrop, the telecommunication companies will do it for them, all the FBI has to do is ask for the records.

    All they have to profile is the fact that poor people regardless of race commit various crimes to get more money.

    That should wrap up about 70% of it...

    I think the other problem with profiling is it leaves holes in other areas of security. To simplify things if you are airport security and you are just looking for middle eastern looking guys and giving them special attention, that to me indicates that you are going easier on other people. No considering the "Muslim world" covers a huge area of the world, not just the middle east (like from Africa to South East Asia), I would think it wouldn't be to hard for terrorists to find some guys who might have a relatively different skin colour to work for them, and in turn security would go easier on those guys because they didn’t fit the skin colour profile.

    Very true. It's so easy to slip through the cracks, by just recognizing the cliche views. Ask any fringe dweller...once one knows the basic mindsets, one can easily get beyond them and operate in plain sight, being essentially invisible.

    I don't think any sort of broad racial profiling would be at all helpful ... That being said, pretending that Muslim extremists are more diverse than they really are, just to be PC, is not helpful either. Ethnic background (I prefer this term as Middle Eastern people are not technically a distinct race) is one potential charcteristic of a so-called terrorist. If having that information is helpful and will save lives, then said info should be used. That doesn't mean that everyone is a certain group is automatically suspect, of course. That kind of a broad approach wouldn't be effective (and it would be discriminatory).
