ATLANTA 94 - Best Show Ever!!!

The famous "Atlanta '94" show. This show is considered the pinnacle of early Pearl Jam shows, and was released as a 3-cd set titled 'Dissident'. This show also features arguably the best full version of WMA the band has ever performed.

I was there. My first PJ show. Also, the boys had been on the road forever at that point and were just at the top of their game. The atmosphere was frenzied. Even getting the tickets was a frenzied process. The band was playing these little theaters and the demand for tickets couldn't have been greater. The ticket sale announcement was broadcast over the radio 30 minutes before local Ticketmaster outlets began selling. Local streets would look like the Indy 500 with everyone racing to the nearest outlet to get tickets. The shows sold out in minutes. I don't know how the fuck I even got tickets to this show but I'm damn glad that I did.

Back to the show... It was one of the most intense, religious-like concert experiences I've ever had -- before or since. The crowd was electric and raucous. From the first notes of Release with the band silhouetted in front of a lighted backdrop and Ed's deep "Ummmm....", I was breathless and completely transfixed. I had no idea a live band could be so good; I couldn't even find my voice to sing along for a couple of songs. I was blown away. Already a huge fan before attending that show, my fanaticism was definitely ratcheted up to a new level after. I remember jumping up and down in the middle of Peachtree Street with my buddy like little kids after the show still on an adrenaline high.

That bootleg captured the moment so well. I don't know if it was the acoustics of the venue, the production values or what, but it was a clear sonic snapshot of a band at the height of their popularity, at the top of their game, and filled with intensity. I always say it's Pearl Jam's Live at Leeds -- just a brilliant live album. Don't get me wrong; I still love this band and they are still an intense live force, but it's different now as well it should be. It's just nice to have this incredible boot as memento of that time in 1994.

Absolutely, me too! I won my copy when it was originally released in '94 (I think only 200 were produced in Australia), and "Satan's Bed" is listed as "Already In Love" on my copy. It's all the more special cause I got Jeff and Mike's autographs on it in 1995

i remember staying LATE listening to this broadcast. i think it was a Sunday because i had to go to school the next day. my buddy and i both taped it from the radio.. for some reason his sounded better. a while later PJ released the 3 disc "Dissident" single package and i snagged that right away! only shitty part about it was the set didn't include any of the Vitalogy stuff or "Sonic Reducer". my uncle got an amazing sounded boot of the entire show (except for "Alive" for some reason), so i have that on the iPod now.

still my favorite version of "Black" is this show.

I had the 3-single Dissident deal but ended up selling it at a used CD store for food money back when, well, I needed food. I hated doing that.

But now I have those songs again! Sweet...
