Eddie doesnt have anywhere NEAR the voice he once had. If anything Ed sounds worse. James voice sounds fantastic considering
A)They are an older band than Pearl JamThey are a metal band, which should technically have more tear on his voice.
Not trying to stick up for Metallica, PJ is waaay better. But to say his voice is sounds sad and listen to PJ is kind of retarded.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

How much of a strain can saying "YEAAAAAAAAAH" in an increasingly annoying fashion put on your voice? Christ, even Metallica's most frenetic thrash workouts have fairly pedestrian vocal performances. At least Ed has been singing his way to a damaged voice."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

The song is really good, way better than St. Anger crap.

not a huge fan of the first, slower part. Reminds me too much of The Unforgiven (one of my least favourite Metallica songs). However, the heavier part... wow. That is fucking metalHello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?0

I saw metallica play a few years back when my mum was laying in a hospital bed really really ill with pneumonia. She could've died but I saw Metallica play instead.
Not the most sensible thing I've ever done, but well worth it"I am a doughnut." (live - Berlin, Germany - 11/03/96)

It's true. I'm fairly indifferent about Metallica all around so I don't really care one way or another about the new stuff but I've certainly never heard a challenging Hetfield vocal performance.Idaho's Premier Outdoor Writer

Kill 'Em All has some pretty harsh vocals on it.Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?0 -
I can't wait to hear this but not till I get home to listen to it through my stereo system. Then blast it!

Al this running down Metallica is BS. OK, they haven't put out their best stuff for some years but not many bands manage to release anything like the quality they did on the first 4 or 5 records.
Anyone in any doubt....yayaya, put the Black album away and grab a copy of Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets, the respect is still due
As for 'challenging vocal performance'...what, when was it decided there was a competition going on? Surely it's just about doing what comes natural to someone. It's about personal taste, and didn't someone once say music was about art and it shouldn't be put into competition, because you can't judge art.....hmmmm, who was that now?
And, as for being annoying, much as I love Ed I'm sure a lot of people find his "yeeeeehooohoooos" and "haahaahaas" equally as irritating as James' "Yeeeeaaaahhhhs":p
I'll give the new one a chance when it comes out.I came, I saw, I concurred.....0 -
I've heard this song about 10 times on the new XM Metallica station in the past three days. I have given it plenty of chance and will continue to for a while longer. But...
...every time I hear it I hate it more. All I hear is new Metallica trying too hard to be old Metallica. They are trying so hard that they rip themselves off. It sounds like a Justice B-Side that wasn't good enough to be a B-Side. The solo is uninspired and borrows from several other Metallica solos. The lyrics are very non-Metallica as well.
Never thought I'd say this, but I'll take Load over what I've heard of Death Magnetic. At least Load was a change in an interesting direction, though extremely different from their past. Now they're trying to make ...And Justice for All 2.

See the thing is their roots are metal. This isn't metal. This is generic, derivative hard rock.16
Lil Wayne is better than Pearl Jam.

im with you on this one. i caught myself thinkingcouple of times while listening to this song - havent i heard this before? they just try too hard to be something they used be to but but, are not anymore. i think they should have called it quits long time ago.
many people defend it just by saying its better than st. anger, if this is the only merrit of quality than i dont want to know what kind of music they listen to. christina aguilera???make tea not love0 -
Anyone know the name of the song that they play before Metallica come out on stage this year??

God, I love a lot of music with absolutely horrendous vocals, if you're approaching them from a purely technical point of view. Hetfield is far from terrible."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

They should've used this album to create fresh material in a new direction since this was Trujillo's first time recording with them.0 -

danny72688 wrote:They aren't really in a no-win situation--unless you're talking in terms of popularity. They could've made a great original album. They are giving their fans too much input into their writing, which is terrible in my opinion. Of course the 80s fanboys cry for more thrash material. That's the Metallica I know and love best, but at least they were trying to mature and evolve their sound in the past 20 years. More than half of it is great. Metallica is living in the past now, making a shitty, nostalgiac (from what I've heard) album that will be praised for a bit then criticized.
They should've used this album to create fresh material in a new direction since this was Trujillo's first time recording with them.Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0
