New Guns and Roses after the FIRST listen....

I pick it up yesterday. Never intended to do so, but couldn't resist the urge. After the first few songs I am going to say that, considering all the hype, I am not very impressed. Maybe if I listen to a few times it will grow on me, but it just seems lacking and weak compared to appetite and the use your illusion discs. It is clearly evident that slash is absent from this album. After working on a album for 14 years I had hoped for more, but it is actually just what I expected.PJ:

That's how I felt at first too. But trust me, it'll grow on you. It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win0 -
after one listen i wasnt left thinking "good" or "bad", just thought it was very average. sounds like a lot of other music out there today so i will put the generic rock label on it. if your looking for something that everyone at the party can enjoy go for this record. its sure to please the masses. probably wont get many more plays in my house. This post is © by gfraser0

Anybody else think he sounds like "the Count" from Sesame Street on the first two verses of "Streets of Dreams"“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”0

not really, but something about it is a little cheesy. He doesn't sing it that way live though, which is good.Whats got the whole world faking?0 -

Yeah in some songs he sounds pretty bad... when he goes for that extreme high register it's just kind of aggravating now.
But his mid-range is spot on and sounds better than ever, imo.
And I've said it before, but I'll say it again for added emphasis... Better is kicking my ass right now. Absolutely killer song. It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win0 -

yeah, the lower register stuff is where i hear it. haha
Anyways, Better is a really good song, agreed!“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”0 -

Ever see "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"? He sounds exactly like Jason Segal singing in his Dracula musical.0 -
Was it ever gonna meet up to expectations ?
Was it fuck!
Appetite is still one of the best balls to wall sheer enjoyable rock albums of all time and is a stone cold classic better than any Nirvana album ever was.
UYI could have been much better with some discipline and editing, one album highlighting all the best tracks would have been killer instead of the self indulgent mess both albums were.
Chinese Democracy is fine if you don't go in expecting the reinvention of the wheel, I was plesantly surprised and found myself only starting to cringe when the last 2 tracks appeared, it over produced for sure and the roster of musicians involved is ridiculous but the title track is a blast and I really like Better, a few more listens and who knows what I might think but my 1st is more than happy.
Just think of it as an Axl solo album and it's a bit more easy to swallow. No GNR album without Slash and Duff can be taken seriously as a GNR album, what happens next is anyones gues but I still don't think that proper reunion is completely off the cards.0 -

I couldn't remember where I heard it before and started laughing when I first heard axl spew that aweful attempt at being whatever it was he was going for. Skip to 1:10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5ZtwbzUFZE
As for CD, I think it is a pretty solid album with a lot of great stuff, some mediocre, and a couple of WTF?! were they smoking? moments
after 2 listens I give it a 7.5/10If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?0 -
I really like If The World for some reason. I know its not one of the strongest on the album but I keep putting it on repeatI am lost, I'm no guide. But I'm by your side...
8/25/92, 10/4/96, 10/5/96, 9/1/98, 9/4/98, 8/4/00, 8/6/00, 4/15/03, 4/16/03, 10/6/04, 6/16/080 -
It is indeed a great album. I mean Bumblefoot tries to replicate that classic GNR sound, but still adds a little bit of his own style. Great album though as well.Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.0 -

I wish i was more familiar with some of these guys guitar work because i'd be intrested to know who plays what leads.
I can pick out most of Bucketheads leads. I'm also thinking Better is a combo of both Buckethead taking the early leads and then Robin Finck playing the bluesier ones at the end.
Who plays the "If the World" and "There was a time" leads?
Also, I think the title track, There was a Time, and Riad n' the Bedouins are my favorites so far.“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. Diggin I.R.S..and the rest of the album is growing on me..not great, but good job out of Axl..'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'0 -
