Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind"

http://www.ladyjayes.com/readmymind.html
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

Speaking of the Pumpkins, Stumbeline has to be one of the saddest songs ever.

just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song. LOL

  • Wow great to see someone nominate this song so soon in the sad songs thread. This song is one of the greatest of all time from one of my favourite artists of all time. Lightfoot has other great, sad songs such as 1972s "Ode To Big Blue" a song about a whale. I don't know why the public has largely forgotten Lightfoot he is one of the greatest and yet all I ever hear discussed is Neil Young and Dylan.
