She tells him she thinks she wants to be free
He tells her he doesn't understand
    She takes his hand
And tells him nothing's working out the way she planned

    She's so many women
He can't find the one who was his friend
He's hanging on to half a heart
But he can't have the restless part
So he tells her to hasten down the wind

Now he agrees he thinks she ought to be free
Now she says she'd rather be with him
    Oh it's just a whim
That she's designed to keep him out there on that limb

    She's so many women
He can't find the one who was his friend
He's hanging on to half a heart
But he can't have the restless part
So he tells her to hasten down the wind
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

    Yellow Rose
    Waco Moon
Quit too late you're gonna die too soon
Woman with a needle and a silver spoon
Holed up singin' the devil's tune
Playin' the blues, payin' your dues
    Speedin' your young life away
I never will get over what I heard about you
The first thing New Year's Day

    I can't say I felt so sad
The truth is I think I'm mad
At the selfish way you left your dad
When you know what a hard luck time he's had
Sleepin' through a dream come true
You just threw all that talent away
I never will get over what I heard about you
The first thing New Year's Day

    Ooooo hoooooo
    Slippin' away
    Ooooo hoooooo
    New Year's Day

I threw the phone against the wall
Falling apart when I got the call
I went out walkin' with the weight of it all
That's when it hit me like a waterfall
I'm playin' the blues, payin' my dues
    Speedin' my young life away
I never will get over what I heard about you
The first thing New Year's Day

    Ooooo hoooooo
    Slippin' away
    Ooooo hoooooo
    New Year's Day

    Yellow Rose
    Waco Moon
Quit too late, you died too soon
To the bitter end tried and true
    Goodbye old friend
    We'll be missing you

Tool-Right in Two-the music in the background and Maynard's vocals sound very sad, very emotional-its like they are ashamed to be called humans

Eva Cassidy's Cover of Sting's Field of Gold-as much as I like to say I a true rock fan, this song is one of the best performed songs EVER. Its a stunning song as it was when Sting sang it, but Eva Cassidy really coveys this powerful, powerful feeling. Its the feeling in this song that really is amazing. Even a Dead Kennedy's and Clash fan like me gets a lump in my throat every listen. This is how songs are supposed to be sung folks!

Nick Drake-Place to Be-any Nick Drake song is meloncholy and sad, but this is the ultimate. He is lost, completely and utterly. In my mind, this is the greatest song ever written. Dylan, Uncle Neil, Uncle Bruce, Eddie, and all other great songwriters of our time cant even touch the emotion on this one. Unreal song.

Nirvana-Something in the way-the something refered to by Kurt is never explained. What was it that was in the way. What was it? It doesnt matter. This song is sung and perfomed brilliantly by Kurt. He coveys to the listener the idea perfectly without haveing to explain further. Its in his voice, its in the guitar, its in the sparse arrangement. Its a haunting song.

Alice in Chains-Nutshell-just unreal amount of passion and emotion on this track. I am a straightedger and I can FEEL and TASTE how drugs affect people by listening to this song. This is what it feels like to be addicted to drugs. Very sad song

Pearl Jam-Come Back-the feeling of losing someone, and wanting them to be here. Very sad song. The ending with the guitars, and ed's voice. Even though this is a very sad song, when ed says "its okay", I feel some happiness, but this song is mostly very meloncholy

Beck-Golden Age-wow! This is a stunner. Beck sounds so down, so down on his luck. He seems so lost and alone. The lyrics in this song are very powerful. These days I barely get by, I dont even try. That is it folks, that line alone conveys so much.

Damien Rice-basically all songs of his are sad. Very powerful emotions in his song, very sad songs.

    Death Cab-Summer Skin-loss of innocence.

Iron and Wine-Sodom South Georgia, passing afternoon,

John Butler Trio- Life Ain't What It Seems, Caroline.
