Thanks buddy. Not listened to it all the way through but this is a lot closer to what it should sound like then the CD.

Just in case anyone is interested apparently some mystery guy remixed the song "Broken, Beat, & Scarred" from stems he took for the GH version. It sounds a bit better but is still a bit too loud for my tastes. Having said that it can be found where people usually find stuff like this.

Here's a link that kind of explains what was done...unfortunately I can't find the originally article where I read about this.

  • 'And Justice for load...' oops! sorry!... I meant 'Death Magnetic' (;)) is simply incredible.

I'll be honest, I wasn't holding out much hope for it (thanks to STANGER) but it's completely blown me away. I even bought it for one of my best friends for his birthday tomorrow :o He's loved Metallica for years but lost hope at S&M but i'm so certain about the new one that I got it for him anyways :D

I need to listen to it now but I have a poorly ear and can't use headphones... I think work might see the funny side if I blast out of my PC... :o

If anyone was at the London show you can download it on the metallica website (cost about £5)

    Pretty good quality.

Agreed mate. This may be my favorite Metallica album, well maybe second after And Justice for All.

  • It's a really good album. Now I have to manage to get tickets for next year concerts in Europe.

BTW, the difference between CD and guitar hero version is huge. I suggest you to get the guitar hero version.

I already know the verdict :D
Honestly there must have been something wrong in the CD making process.

Yeah I spoke to my housemate about it and he reckons there was possibly a mix up with the final edits... would be a shame if it's true, no computer game should ever surpass the actual record.

    Pretty good quality.

Metallica has a bootleg program that is very similar to Pearl Jam's. Up until recently, the quality of Metallica's downloads weren't very good, but seems to have improved quite a bit.

This album is really great. Metallica have finally returned to what they do best - Thrash!
I´m 30 + and I have been kind of a fan since Master of Puppets - i just can´t let them go, even tough they have made their really bad record(s)
I´ve been listening to DM all day, and it seems to keep growing.
"All nightmare long" is my favorite track after the first five spins.

I can´t wait for them to play Europe indoor this spring.

    What do you guys think????

Totally agree! All Nightmare Long is definately my fav on the whole album. After the train wreck that was St Anger, it's nice they finally went back to their roots. In the recent issue of Guitar World, they even said they hated St Anger. As a drummer, I was rather annoyed with Lars picking that stupid bongo setting on his snare. It's basically useless unless you're in a symphony or a South American jungle!

The only negative to the album was the mixing quality. Sounds like they turned the levels up too much, and the sound breaks up, making it seem like a rookie mixed it. You get all that static in the background.

Well I've gone back re-listened to all well most of my Metallica stuff and I've had to make some rearrangements as far as their album rankings.

As for the new album DM...well to me this one is certainly for the Thrash Heads. Yes they have gone back to their old school days for sure.

Positives; I've gone back listening for songs I just didn't care for and each time I seem to have a hard time finding them maybe that last one *My Apocalypse*

*Suicide & Redemption* is one of the reasons I love instrumentals from the gradual grove to where the songs fills out in the end. It sort of reminds me *Orion* I've always preferred the groovier side of Metallica than speed metal thrash and THIS song makes the grade. Smart move to just jam to an instrumental.

James Hetfield's voice sounds fine to me and I have a feeling theses songs LIVE will come across with even more power and force.

FAVS: S & R, Cy, The Day, That Was, T J K, The UFG III, The End.....

Negatives: I prefer those....There seems to be an over abundance of drum layers coming from Lars playng. Some absence on his cymbals would've been nice but I'm being picky here.

More bass lines from Robert Trujillo would've been nice like on *Cyanide* *The UFG III* and *Suicide & Redemption* just as an intro to what he can do. Love to hear the bass wailing like back in the Cliff days aw well he probably doesn't haven't too much say so as to what makes the final cut.

What else I think that's it. At first i barely warmed to the album trying to find songs I liked. however with repeated listening the album rocks well. Now the test comes with playing them live.

    Peace

This album was for the THRASH HEADS for sure. :) Surprisingly great work.

  • I've basically been listening to Death Magnetic on a continuous loop for the past couple days, and I gotta say, it's pretty fucking good(in my opinion). It definitely has a vintage Metallica throwback sound and has made me forget all about St. Anger. I so loathed St. Anger that declared I would never buy another Metallica album. Last week however I turned on Fuse(yeah, they actually play music) and I caught the tail end of The Day That never Comes, and I thought, "Wow, Kirks playing solos again!" I went out and bought it the next day, and was very pleased with what I heard.

I think a lot of the riffs sound like "...and justice for all" riffs. You could easily say 'That was just your life' was a leftover "...and justice" song. There are a lot of other songs that have "Ride the Lightning" sounding riffs. Plus, Kirk is playing his face melting solos again.

I think a lot of it has to do with kicking Bob Rock to the curb, which I'm glad they did because I didn't care for any of the material they did with him.

I have to agree with the mixing complaints. This album sounds horrible when cranked, which is a shame because it's Metallica. The only way it should be played is cranked (in theory).

Just another observation. Listen to the song "The End of the Line." When the verse comes in, you can substitute the lyrics with the "Creeping Death" verse lyrics without missing a beat.

Finally laid down the dollars for this album.....after one listen in the car....I'm happy with my purchase...yes, it does have that..."and Justice" feel to its sound..nice rebound from the total piece of shit that was "St. Anger"...and that awful song for one of the Mission: Impossible movies (IMHO that was the worst Metallica song).

I listen this album as much as I did the day I bought it, and I can't help but playing it on Guitar Hero every time I play. It definitely does hold up and actually gets better with each listen.

  • Listening to this for the first time right now and I LOVE it. It's pretty badass. I've never been very much into Metallica, never disliked except for the recent weak albums, but I wasn't into their early stuf eiter, kida one of the many people who dug them when they were huge but before they went too far. Kirk is tearing it up on this.
