Metallica - Death Magnetic

Oh Yeah!
This album is really great. Metallica have finally returned to what they do best - Thrash!
I´m 30 + and I have been kind of a fan since Master of Puppets - i just can´t let them go, even tough they have made their really bad record(s)
I´ve been listening to DM all day, and it seems to keep growing.
"All nightmare long" is my favorite track after the first five spins.
I can´t wait for them to play Europe indoor this spring.
What do you guys think????

i was also extremely happy to hear another instrumental as that used to be a staple of metallica albums - this is their finest work (not hard to accomplish) in many years and i absolutely can not wait for the philly shows as i will be on the floor

Musicly it's nothing like 1 and 2 it's just the lyrics fit with the other two so they called it Unforgiven 3. It's a completley different song, i think it's the weakest on the album actually but it's still not bad.

Hetfield's voice is mostly what was wrong with Load, Reload and especially St. Anger. And he was just painful to listen to on some of the Garage Inc songs, like Loverman.
But on Death Magnetic, the Hetfieldisms are at worst just amusing. He does a hilarious growl towards the end of Cyanide. But a lot of the time, his vocals are truly badass. When he sings "WHAT DON'T KILL YA, MAKE YA MORE STRONG!" - i mean, it's looks stupid when you type it out, but it sounds fucking awesome.

Anyway, awesome album. When I first heard The Day That Never Comes I felt kinda disappointed, thinking the album was just another over-hyped mediocre album. But as more songs were being released, and then it leaked, I was really getting into it. Now I must agree, best album since ..And Justice For All. Black is good, but it's the album where they started moving away from what they do best, thrash. This was a much needed return.

5 bucks that's a steal, $11.99 and just stuck it in to play.

I don't know why people think it's OK to steal music. Is it just because you don't have to steal it from a store or something? I think the whole downloading thing has been blown out of proportion. Just because a guy steals say £200 worth of music in one month doesn't mean he's cost the industry £200 because chances are he wouldn't have bought that much anyway. Still it is wrong.

That is a good point, one that people often forget. I think the problem is, when stealing becomes as easy as clicking a mouse within the comforts of home, people forget that it is still stealing after all.

Yes I will quote myself here
On the other hand thanks to all those Mp3's I downloaded years ago I own way more CD's. (CD's I know I wouldn't own if it wasn't for Illegal file sharing) I bet you anything I wouldn't own half of the ones I do if it wasn't for programs like Napster.
P.S. I bought the new Metallica album and YES its awesome. So Lars I forgive you

I see what your sayin. A lot of people were against Lars because he was a millionaire and he didn't need anymore money BUT no one is goin to listen to some guy from a little band are they? They needed someone big to put this case forward, a lot of musicians were agreeing with Lars but they were just to cowedley to make a stand themselves.
Anywhoo this time tomorrow i'll be seein Metallica for the first time. I'm pumped for this especially after seein' the Berlin setlist.

I've mentioned this before but I once, rather bashfully, admitted to a musician that I had downloaded his album illegally and he told me he would rather I stole it than never get a chance to hear it. THAT should be the attitude of an artist. Lars is not an artist, Lars is a businessman. Add to this the fact that, unlike Lars, the musician I am talking about probably hasn't seen a royalty from the album since 1986 and has a 9 to 5 job. He was still just happy that I'd heard it. One day I'll reward the guy by shelling out what will probably be a small fortune for a vinyl copy of the record, since that's all that's available. I'll never put another penny in the back pocket of Lars Ulrich.
I'll illegally download Death Magnetic soon and then post my thoughts
Exactly. There's really no faking on this album. It's not like they tried to go back to thrash for the sake of it, they actually were at that point as a band and were able to slide back into it. Whenever you try to force something out of yourself, that's when a bad album happens. You gotta go with what you got. And it would seem they are really back to thrash.

I think each member shows their top strengths on certain songs.
James (Vocals):That Was Just Your Life
Rob:The End of the Line
Lars:Suicide and Redemption
Kirk:The Judas Kiss
Great album. I was reading on amazon.com though how people were disappointed with how it sounds. Supposedly they did a lot of distortion through the computer. I'm not too familiar with this kind of stuff but anyone else notice this?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.
