I completly agree. Or the "I heard just one song, but I know the whole album sucks" attitude. I have been a member on this board for a few years, saw some album launches, but the negativity of late is new to me. Pearl Jam just performed a new song and what are we concerned about? The weight of Eddie Vedder... Common... I'm not a fan of Ed Vedder, Im a fan of their music.

That said. I really enjoy this tune. It's different, hard and I'm not sure what to compare it with - it stands on it's own. It's different than the "The Fixer" or whatever it was called, I think. No Yeah, Yeah, Yeah's. The only line I could decipher was "dropping bombs". Anyone has an insight on the lyrics?

    Thanks.

i'm so... so glad that this is better than anything on Avocado. It did feel rushed but its going to be one rocking song! The entire band look rejuvenated, good stuff. Thanks PJ.

I think this a really catchy song. I like it even though the sound wasn't that good.
The most important thing is that Stone was kinda headbanging and jumping :D ... he's the man !!!
I defintitely would like to hear how they perform this one in concert (can't wait for Manchester and London). I hope Mike's outro will be a bit longer, there's some potential on this one.
I learned yesterday I'll be laid off soon so at least this song put a smile on my face.

I listened to Avocado today and I think this is better than everything on there. But maybe that's because it's new. Regardless it rocks. Well done Pearl Jam. See you in the fall.

The question we were asking was did Stone get a nose job. hehehehe

    Love Stone's look! :D

man some of you guys love the band more than I could every imagine. I thought that song was awful. It just sounded like a pile of noise that went nowhere. I'm not sure why that song would be the first single. Maybe it will grow on me, but it didn't do anything for me last night

Yeah i thought it was a sorta big pile of noise but could still pick out the catchy chorus, probably have to wait to hear it on tv or on the album.

Just need to listen to it more, its weird knowing everything (well most things) about Pearl Jam but then a new song comes up and i'm like wtf i don't know how this goes etc.

So excited to hear the full album now!!!! Glad they did this show even though the studio sound left lots to be desired. Excited about the tour rumors and these next few months!

ed's vocal delivery was not great, the rest of the band was great , but for the first time it has been performed, it aint bad.
i have a feeling that this will be epic on the album.

ed's voice was a little off but thats neither here or there really. The song was different really made me listen at first as it was very interesting to hear this new type of sound. I don't hear any KOL thankgod like a few others have thought. I'm really looking forward to a studio version of this as this is the most promising new PJ track in my opinion since Grievance was played on Letterman.

I have to be honest that I did not particuarly like the song last night - granted, I stayed up knowing that I would only get 4 1/2 hours of sleep, so I was dead-tired, and it was a 1st-time performance. But after watching the video a couple of times today, I can definitely see potential.

I was listening last night and was convinced that I was going to have to go out today and buy a new stereo system. But upon listening to this a couple of times more...this was obviously a problem with the Tonight Show and THEIR sound system, as opposed to mine.

It's shitty that the two new songs that I've heard have been crippled by terrible sound.

Anyways, I don't know what to make of the song. It' definately rocks. It's certainly new ground for Pearl Jam, but hardly ground that hasn't been treaded on by other bands. Definately modern sounding; not sure if that's a good thing or not.

The band looked kind of stiff last night...Missing some swagger.

I'm sure the album version and subsequent live performances will blow this version out of the water. But right now it is very apparent that this song could definatley benifit from further road work.

Again, I keep going back to the Tonight Show's sound...But It was hard to hear Eddie in the mix. There was alot going on musically -which I like- but the music drowned out the vocal melody -which is never a good thing when you have a singer like Eddie Vedder-

It was obvious too that Eddie was struggling. He seemed to look over at Mike a few times as if something was off...and something definately did sound off.

Oh well...Not the performance I'd hoped for. But there is still a sign of promise here. The two songs I've heard so far are pretty up tempo and rocking with alot of energy for a band of their age.

I'm yet to hear the "Yield" connection hinted by the NME reporter, but from what I've heard this could still be an interesting record none the less.

We'll see in July what happens with the single.
Personally out of the two I've heard, I think "The Fixer" is the better of the two songs-even after hearing it from that awful recording outside of The Showbox-

Hopefully we'll be able to put a few more pieces of the puzzle toghether in the comming weeks as more information and songs surface -live or whatever-

    BTW...Interesting Artwork!!!

Listening to it on the TV last night I likeded it but it was hard to understand Ed. This morning in my inbox of my e-mail was a mp3 version of the show my friend sent me. It sounds so much better through Headphones than on TV. I have it on repeat and it is growing on me each time I listen to it

    Great song
    2 gripes:
    1. Of course the sound; could barely hear ed
    2. They need to showcase a song where Mike rips a solo so the rest of the world knows what we already know: he's one bad ass mofo

its honestly a good song, if it wasnt from PJ. I hope i change my mind.

I was watching it with 5 other PJ fans and 2 kinda liked it. The rest of us said, ''we stayed up for this''? lol

Maybe it will grow on the rest of us that weren't sure. Like I said it was nice to see PJ playing on the tonight show.

My suggestion, put head phones on and listen to it on the youtube version. I have literally listened to it 30 times today, its just an upbeat in your face song. definetley can see it being great live, with maybe an extended jam in there.

  • My first impression was "meh. why did I stay up for this?" I was almost sad in a way, thinking their sound has really aged. Ed's delivery was really strained and barely audible. I chalked some of that up to a bad mix.

Got to work this morning, watched it again and was instantly hooked. Sounded much better despite Ed's strain. Don't know what changed overnight, but something did. Maybe the expectation of the sounds to come?

Heard it a third time, better audio rip, and I'm enjoying it even more. Great pace to this one. Very catchy when the lyrics are more audible. This is gonna be a fun one in concert.

This now gives me hope for the album!
