Ok, so I gave one of my friend, who has never listened to pearl jam, their first 3 albums. After a few weeks, I asked her what she thought of them, and she said they were ok, but she hated the vocals. She said that she likes "smooth" vocals, and hearing that about eddie, I almost flipped out and lost my shit and exploded on her. I had to catch myself.

Hahah thats what my friend said about pearl jam when I asked him if he likes them.
Every band has people who love them and every band has people who hate them.

You should give her a Creed album and report back to me.

I really think Ed at times is one of the best vocalist and at times just "meh".

His overuse of the falsetto (for example on this years Christmas single) and can't hold notes because of it, and pulls off...not good!

You will then hear a boot like Benaroya where he pretty much nailed EVERYTHING perfectly.

I just don't get it. So on and so "off" at times...

It really annoys me the way he sings live nowaday. Way too much falsetto...sounds annoying, and most of the time just plain bad

Go to an Ed solo show and tell me Ed's voice isn't in top form.

The dude is such a better *singer* now ... as opposed to the *growler* he used to be. I was listening to a boot from '95 the other day ... I almost found it unlistenable.

No. 1 -- I'm not sure you know what the word "lyricist" means.

No. 2 -- What in God's name are you talking about?

I know what he's talking about. Well the 2nd part anyway. Yes, he misused lyricist.

    But for the 2nd point:
Listen to Benaroya...to the performances of Thin Air, Off He Goes, Parting Ways, Thumbing.
On those songs, (and several other songs in the bands catalogue) nowadays Ed *wavers* his voice, quivering his voice up & down over notes instead of doing like on the Benaroya show : just holding the one solid note in his bartione and nailing the notes perfectly. He just sounds tired when he does it the new way, whereas by holding the note, his voice sounds strong and deep.

Its not all songs, but some songs he definitely does it everytime they play them

The only time I have a problem with Ed's voice is when they play "Save You" live. I hate all of the 'squeaks' that he puts into each verse.

e.g. "I'm gonna save you fucker, not gona "screech" you."
"You helped me when I was down,... I'll help when "screech" down"

I REALLY wish he wouldn't sing it like that!

'95 was easily his worst tour ever. His voice was shot essentially the whole tour.

    Love his voice.

Hate it on the rocksongs on Avocado and how he sing those songs (and some older ones) live. I think his vocals takes away energy from the Avocado songs with the "growling" instead of adding energy when he screams in Blood on VS and Tremor Christ or something.

Hard to explain, but it feels he holds back when he sings WWS, LIfe Wasted and the new songs.

you said it sistah! I know exactly what you mean

it's so funny because I cannot stand that song live, as soon as I hear the chords on a boot, it's like I can't get to the skip button fast enough

fuck me, here is a thread critisising the voice of Eddie Vedder...well I've seen it all now

cant we just enjoy his voice rather than having to winge that at a show in 2003 during a song he bummed a note....

some people have far too much time.....I wonder if some of you pause your CD's to run his voice through the computer to check the range and tone.....
