It is FAR FROM A MARRIAGE LIKE ANY OTHER!

Why? Is it not the union of two people in love who wish to have a fulfilling life together, with all the ups and downs of a marriage? Apart from the sex aspect (and procreation), how so different is it to a man/woman marriage?
I did mention custody rights, adoption rights, alimony rights.
In what? 90% of marriages MOTHER has custody in a divorce? Dad pays support and alimony? Correct me if I am wrong.

What are the same sex marriage laws? Are there any in place? Again, I have no idea, so maybe somebody can educate me here.

custody, alimony etc. is decided on a case by case basis.

As far as I know, in states where there same-sex marriages are recognized, there's no special laws that are put into place for "same-sex marriage."

They are just considered marriages period.

Speedy, you never mentioned your reasons why you are against same-sex marriages.

    Why are you?

So we make same sex marriages legal tommorow..

And ALL current laws regarding marriage, alimony, child support, custody, etc. All stay in place?

    Think about it a second....

    It doesnt and WONT work.

It is FAR FROM A MARRIAGE LIKE ANY OTHER!

There is not any law that I am aware of that says.....

the woman has the right to THIS....the man has the right to THAT

see, that would be sexual discrimination so you won't find a law that says that.
....they only refer to "spouse" so it could be the man or the woman..
therefore there would be no changes to the written laws themselves....

It would be exactly the same as in all divorce cases.

In Britain, gay civil partnerships have ALL the same rights of a woman/man married couple who had a civil marriage (ie not married in a church), including divorce issues.

Speedy, your article is an argument in SUPPORT of gay marriages.

The only reason that there are problems in divorce as the article outlines is beause the law DOES NOT recognize gay marriage as it does other marriages.

    A little 'thought':

I mentioned that in the UK, civil partnerships (ie same sex 'unions') conferred the same legal rights as civil marriage (hetero 'unions').

This does not mean that gays find their partnerships 'equal' as gay 'marriage' is still not legal. A few years back, a same sex couple who married in Canada were not able to have their marriage recognised as such here. What they want is 'equal marriage' (we're not talking religious marriages here).

I know that some will not understand what it means for those involved but the 'EQUAL' bit is important - it's full recognition.

    is that your argument?

are you against same-sex marriages because you think alimony or divorce laws differentiate between man and woman, which they don't?

    anything else?

Yeah, it may take a little effort. Is that a reason for not doing it?

    you're right.

in order to lose an argument, you have to have one to begin with.

You didn't have any argument at all, except for that which is discriminatory in nature.

    P.S. I would need a bra and underwear in a parade :P
