digital download...or actual CD?

i read a lot of talk here about getting a digital DL for the new album, as a precursor to getting an actual hard copy CD. call me old school, but i don't want this! i want the actual CD FIRST...or at least simultaneously, with a possible digital DL. now i know loads of people never listen to CDs anymore.....but i DO. granted, i probably listen to my ipod more, but nonetheless...i want a CD. first.

and HELL NO, i don't want to have to buy a digital DL just to get to hear it first....and then have to buy a hard copy CD. and i won't. at the very least, i think the DL only should be offered at one price, and then a DL with a CD at another, if it must be done like this at all. i realize the music world has, and continues to, rapidly change.....but man.....i never thought i'd even imagine getting a DL as a FIRST hear of a new album. granted, i grew up on actual vinyl records :P.....but i truly love CDs. *sighs*

so....any thoughts on DL vs. CD?
preferences for release?
have we all become so impatient as a society that we far prefer the instant gratification of a DL over waiting for the *complete package*.............?

I want the physical CD, and preferably the vinyl.

Digital download would sorta ruin my ritual of listening to the album while looking at the artwork. (Printing it out is not as cool.)

glad to see i am not alone.
i actually don't buy a lot of CDs, but if it's a band i truly love....YES...i ALWAYS buy the CD. even tho i grew up on vinyl, i am not a vinyl purist at all...i love, love, love CDs.

and vedd hedd....YES! the ritual of a new album! the artwork, everything....along with listening to the new music............:mrgreen::mrgreen:

i am not opposed to DLs overall, not in the least...i just don't want a new album as a DL first. simultaneous is fine. and sure, i think it's awesome that pj puts their albums out on vinyl for the fans who love vinyl.

The only time I download music is when the album is only released that way (eg Gutter Twins EP, Noel Gallagher's Cancer Trust live album) and even then I don't like it. I want a real CD that I can pop into my car or my stereo at home, rather than listen to in mediocre mp3 files on a tiny digital device. I can rip it to my computer later for my ipod (which I only listen to when I'm working out or walking around the city), but I don't want my first listen to be over shitty computer speakers in a compressed format.

CD, Vinyl and DL... but DL should be released last. There's nothing better than waiting for a CD to be released, getting it home and listening for the first time
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

If the new album comes out in Digital Download first, I won't buy it until a cd version is available. I didn't buy any of the digital download bootlegs from previous tours and won't start buying musical digitally now.

These crazy new-aged, new-fangled technology driven kids can have their downloads, I want to physically hold the new CD and not open it quick enough cuz i'm shaking and excited... I want to hear it (as SS said) through a good stereo and not computer hardware... I want to hear it with my Pearl Jam loving boyfriend, look at the CD casing together and argue about which tracks we like most as we skip back through them... There's nothing beats the feeling of a new CD album from a band you love enough to dedicate the amount of time and money that I, and several thousand others of you, have done. :D

That is a great idea and F'n hilarious as well. I think if I were in a band I would offer eccentric mediums such as 8-tracks and cassettes to please all.

solat - i DID buy the bootleg DLs, tho i did protest loudly, and often here, about it. and they since have offered CDs again, so life is good......haha. seriously, i wasn;t happy at all about it, but the desire to have boots of shows i attended and no other option to getting em, well.....thereya go. however, actual CD ALWAYS trumps a DL for me.

I never bought a single one. Even from the shows I went to. I'm glad they listened to the fans and brought back physical bootlegs though. There are a lot of us out there who don't buy into this downloading music thing. I lvoe new cds and the artwork.

I agree, going out to buy an album you've been waiting for is the best: Racing to the music shop while repeatedly thinking "Please be there, please be there, please be there...". Getting the disc, wanting to get home as quickly as possible just so you can finally listen to it... Sitting down to spin the record while flicking through the artwork... Shit, just thinking about it gets me all excited. No friggin' way I'm trading that for a stupid download!
